The Blazers and Clippers are discussing a deal involving Jamal Crawford for Eric Bledsoe and Ryan Gomes, according to sources.

The teams have exchanged proposals but the deal hasn't advanced to the ownership level yet.

PLEASE DO!

If we were to trade Bledsoe and Gomes for Crawford, I'd rather trade with Atlanta and get Hinrich and McGrady or Hinrich and Green.

Hinrich and Mcgrady/Green would be of more value to us now than Crawford alone. If we were to get Crawford and another player from Portland, like maybe Kurt Thomas, then I'd consider this one.

I like how this has turned out. It sounds like they asked for Bledsoe and Foye for Crawford and we countered with Bledsoe and Gomes for Crawford. It could come back to haunt us, but I'd do it. Even tho Mo and Crawford are very similar players I think it would work out fine. Crawford is exactly what we need. A scorer who plays SG. Would I want a better option? Sure. Is there one? Probably not. We play 3 guards enough that there would be plenty of minutes for both Mo and Crawford and I think they would even get along on the floor and play well together. We are a very good team and chuckers usally play their best when on good teams. Crawford like Mo has PG skills and I think they would really thrive knowing they are basically the only guys off the bench who can score and everyone expects them to clash!

I would like to make the deal for Crawford and I'd be willing to bring in someone like DeShawn Stevenson. Randy Foye is way too inconsistent. Losing Chauncey really hurt our team.

PG - C. Paul/M. Williams
SG - D. Stevenson/J. Crawford
SF - C. Butler/B. Simmons
PF - B. Griffin/R. Evans
C - D. Jordan/K. Martin

Also a lack of a real back-up center is hurting our team too.

Bringing in guys like Crawford or Stevenson just isn't going to cut it anymore. We were talking about bench depth being a problem for the Clips a month ago, and that we could address that problem with a trade at the deadline. But now, the problem has become much worse than just bench depth.

I actually like the way our bench plays and don't think any depth needs to be added anymore. But it's the inconsistency that our starting five plays with, especially the 2, 3, and 5 positions that has us playing this bad. Having Vinny as a coach doesn't help either.

Point is, the problem has become bad enough that bringing in extra bench help isn't going to help us win in the playoffs, so it's better to just not trade anything at all since we won't be winning anything with the inconsistencies in our starting five. And many of us don't want to blow the team up either at a chance to win this year. This wasn't the case a month ago, but it is now. It's a shame really.

Our best move is to stand PAT and maybe sign a guy who gets bought out.

Again, our problem isn't bench play. In this slump we've been in, our bench has played very well. And if we traded for Crawford, it would be a mistake to start him over Foye. We'd lose our best defender and replace him with a guy who plays zero defense.

So Crawford would be a bench player for us, and even though he'll bring in good offensive production off the bench, it still wont be enough to win us games because our starters aren't playing well. What's the point of trading for a player who will help us gt into the playoffs just to be booted out of the first round?

I'd really like to believe that our starting five can turn it around and start playing consistently well like in the beginning of the season, but I really don't think they will, and the only reason for that is because of our coach. He just isn't the right guy to coach this team.

If our FO wants to give up a young asset in Bledsoe for a 3 month rental, then like I said, there are better options out there. It still doesnt make it a good idea though.

I agree with a lot of what you say but I look at Crawford as basically a replacment for Butler. Maybe move Butler to the bench and start Crawford at the 3. We play 3 gaurds a lot of the game anyway and Butler just isn't cutting it. That would certainly add a lot of consistancy to our starting lineup while not losing much D as Butler is struggling there too.

That's something I was thinking of as well, but if the Clippers wanted to bring in a guy to replace Butler, there are much better options than forcing Crawford to play the 3 that we could possibly trade for.

T-mac
G. Hayward
Miles
Dunleavy
Delfino
Budinger
Ariza

If we're giving up Bledsoe, I'd like to see a package with one of these guys as a part of it.

This is true, except that I woulnd't call Foye the teams best defender, though I have been pleased with the effort and energy that he has been putting up at that end of the floor.

As much as everyone is worried about offense though, with the low turnover ability of the guards on this team, and a steady diet of Blake, Chris Paul isolation, and whatever production everyone else gives, this team can win games if the defense was on point.

And like you guys pointed out, getting Crawford to start him at the three would be of no use to the team. Crawford is a worse mismatch at SF than Foye and even Mo is at SG. He's rail thin and barely 6'5, and more SF's have post up ability than SG's, it would be a nightmare to watch night in and night out as this differs from playing spot minutes at the position. I'd rather just give Simmons more minutes as his defense isn't really much worse than what Butler is giving right now, and he's been doing well on the glass. Bobby needs to be set up for more shots as he's a very good open shooter, and so far is shooting 46% from 3PT land.

All in all, I'm more worried about defense than offense. I don't believe there's an acquirable player out there that can make the offense much better than it is with how it is set up. Now, neither do I think there is an acquirable player that can do much for the defense.

In regards to the SF's listed, I don't think New Orleans is interested in giving any more assets to the Clips, so Ariza is out. Delfino is the only realistically acquirable guy that won't hurt the offense (hopefully he won't take some of his erratic long three's) and would bring life and energy defensively. If Milwaukee was interested in Brian Cook (expiring) and a trade exception, then that is an option, they obviously won't want Gomes.

Budinger could be had, but his defense leaves a lot to be desired. Miles sucks on both ends of the floor. Hayward isn't going anywhere, Dunleavy's defense isn't that good, and McGrady has a very nice contract for Atlanta, and I don't believe they are interested in moving him.

I hate to be that optimistic fan, but people were asking to fire Erik Spoelstra roughly 2-3 months into the season after they went on a terrible stretch of 10-20 games.

Spoelstra had the Heat playing good defense through all of that, that's the difference between him and Vinny. If the Clippers were playing good defense, you wouldn't hear any complaints, at least not from me. But like I've said many times, I don't want anything to be done with Vinny until the season is over, and I didn't believe anything should have been done to Spoelstra. In reality though, their expectations were on a different level from this team's expectations.

Bogut and Jackson just got traded for Ellis, Udoh and Brown. Ellis will be the Bucks new starting SG, which means that minutes for Livingston and Delfino will decrease, so the option of acquiring Delfino for a TPE might have increased (I forgot in my last post that you can't trade a TPE along with a player)

I think that GS-Mil trade might offer another chance for us.

The Warriors are pretty much tanking this season, giving up their most productive guy for Bogut, who's going to be out till April at least.

Maybe we can get Brandon Rush, who'll be a RFA this summer, from GS.

I would try something like this.

TPE, 2nd round pick

for

Brandon Rush

+

Travis Leslie for TPE

They would add a 2nd rounder and a prospect in Leslie, while saving some money on Rush.

Brandon Rush is such an underrated player, I truly believe he is part of their future plans though.

They got him for Lou Armundson from the Pacers and he's a RFA.

Not sure if they're willing to extend him and if we can't get him now we should keep an eye on him during the offseason.

BTW: Does anyone know the protections on those two second rounders we got from the Hornets in that CP3 trade?
I read that they were in 2015, but don't know what, if at all, the protections are like.

Los Angeles Clippers: Receive New Orleans’ 2015 second-round pick via the Eric Gordon trade on 12/14/11; receives Memphis’ 2015 second-round pick via New Orleans (originally from the Javaris Crittenton trade on 12/10/08 - Memphis can choose to send $350k instead) via the Eric Gordon trade on 12/14/11.

What do you guys think about trading Gomes, Bledsoe and cook to washington for blatche, mcgee and young? dont try to work in the trade machine because it will not work but mcgee and young fit right into both our trade exceptions. we come up much better in this trade but take on blatche's salary that reports indicate washingtons will trade players as long as blatche is included in the trade.

What would you think about us trading DJ, Caron and Bledsoe for Rashard Lewis, Trevor Booker and Jordan Crawford?

That's pretty much what you're asking the Wizards to do here and they sureley wouldn't be OK with that.

I know that Blatche's been on the trade block and that they'd love to get rid of him, but they certainly wouldn't include McGee(who's as good as DJ, but also able to hit some free throws, making him an option at the end of close games) and Nick Young for that kind of package.

To me, the most realistic trades this deadline for us are the ones using our TPE and maybe a 2nd rounder for a guy like Raja Bell, DeShawn Stevenson, Carlos Delfino, Mike Dunleavy, Marco Bellinelli or maybe even Tracy McGrady.
Those ain't sexy, but at least possible, with us hardly having anything of value to offer while also not being interested to take on longterm contracts.

If those ain't happening, then we'll most likely wait and see who gets cut/bought out to try and add one or even two of those guys.

I've been kicking around an idea in my head where we get Blatche and Young for Butler and Bledsoe...not sure that's a good trade. I also think trading Butler the year we signed him sends a bad message. I actually think Washington would do that tho. I wouldn't even be surprised to see us get Young for Bledsoe. It would make sense for them to that too if Young is indeed not in their future plans. I don't know why he wouldn't be tho. Blatche I'm sure can be had for cheap. I'll bet they'd love to move McGee too, but he'd cost a ton. It seems they want to get those numbskulls away from Wall, which makes sense.

Return to Los Angeles Clippers
