Forget the minimal PER production on this roster coming from the SF and PF positions. The biggest problem was the guy who had the highest PER on the team.

Make a few boneheaded plays because you are raw and young -- and that is what should be highlighted. Ad nauseum. Forget that we drafted our franchise piece in Wall a year ago. Does anyone know what Durant's record was his first 2 years in the NBA? We must act desperate immediately because we are losing.

Young is an unrestricted free agent and McGee is a restricted free agent who if we simply wanted jettisoned could have let another team overpay for his services.

Point being: If the main goal was for them to simply "be gone" ... it would have happened in a few months without incurring a bloated contract.

The desperate "addition by subtraction" mentality being pervasive throughout the Wizards organization is what allowed us to be taken advantage of. And if you are wondering, this is how professionals in the highest level of sports can be manipulated into making poor decisions.

Hominids? No religious talk in this forum please.

And I can't believe they let just anyone post here. Security! Otis Thorpe? Anyone? Muggsy?

Anyway, it's nice to see an old-time poster back here in these troubled times.

...aww, thanks Ruz. Always good to hear from you, too.

Honestly, I have mixed emotions about this trade. I am ecstatic that Nick is gone -- so no mixed feelings there. I'm happy/unhappy that JaVale is gone, but my main beef is the money that Nene makes. His game is fine, but man... he's a pricey dude. So be it. We weren't going to win with either of the guys traded, may as well not win with someone else. At least he's a professional, and a smart guy. That can't help but rub off on Book and Ves, right?

...and I have to say, as well. CCJ, you're a bright guy, and I respect how you stick to your guns so much, and have always enjoyed reading your analysis -- even when I don't agree. I don't, however, understand why you've got such a chip on your shoulder about things that you feel you need to pound into the floor how right you are and how right you've been for so long versus everyone else. Let you be you, there's no need to wave a flag.

I think we all feel frustration with this team and the hard times we've had to go through watching them -- understandably! -- but I'd like to think we're not going to eat each other like the Donner Party though.

You really need to stop, ccj. The debate was never about how good Cousins was (or would become). It was ALWAYS about Wall vs. Cousins. Don't try to claim now that you were one of the few on this board who recognized Cousin's potential to be an outstanding big man because that was never the issue.

As for the trade, put me in the lukewarm camp. I agree that Nene's experience, toughness and smarts is a great change from what the Zards had in McGee. But it's hard not to be worried about his health and the size (13 mil) and length of his contract.

I can see both McGee and Young doing well in their new situations...and I really hope they do. They seem like good guys, just far too immature to have around influencing and frustrating our talented youngsters like Wall, Booker, Seraphin and Singleton.

Pretty awful trade, would rather have let McGee walk. But don't act like we would have gotten better. McGee is about as radioactive as Blatche right now. Don't look at McGee's PER or his stats, those don't tell even part of the story. McGee is a terrible, immature, non-impactful player, and anyone who believes a "change of scenery" and a "better organization" is delusional. Guys like Charlie V and Stromile Swift put up numbers at a young age, but when you actually watched them you realized they were good role players and nothing more. Nene is a far better player to people who don't have a mancrush on McGee's wingspan and vertical. Trading McGee is addition by subtraction, and should have been done last year when we actualyl could have GOTTEN something from him.

I'm just happy McGee is gone. He's our version of Jason Campbell - a marginal player with great measurables but a 10 cent head who everyone hopes will "improve" but never actually does, and turns out to be a huge albatross on the team and fanbase because he's never flat out bad enough to get rid of.

The real failure of this trade is that Ernie Grunfeld wasn't fired last year - we needed a new GM that wasn't wedded to his past failures to clean house once we got Wall.

True story: About two weeks ago a friend of mine ran into Wall at a gas station at Conn. and Nebraska in NW DC. They started talking about Kentucky's Anthony Davis. Wall said he'd like to see Davis on the Zards because "he already knows how to play while Javale is still learning how to play."

Sounds to me like Wall was not a big fan of McGee.

People should stop going on about Nene's bad contract. Of course he has a bad contract - If he didn't then Denver wouldn't have traded him. The Wiz aren't going to get any quality player in a trade or as a free agent on a great team friendly contract. You want Batum or Ryan Anderson? You're going to have to overpay like crazy or their teams will simply match. Maybe they would match even if we made a crazy offer. So we have to overpay any way you look at it.

Been saying it most of the bball season that Davis at 18 already has a higher basketball IQ than McGee who is 24 and still developing, even with 4 years in the league.

For someone who keeps harping on others for being "irrational", your statement here is borderline delusional.

McGee did not just make a few bad plays because he was young and raw. He steadfastly made the same boneheaded plays for four straight years with no sign of improvement. We're not talking about the dribbling coast to coast to turnover, or other sportscenter bloopers either. We're talking about every bloody pick and roll he "defended", every rotation he failed, and every time he left the rim wide open for an easy layup.

Nene had arguably his best season last year. I think concerns about his age are overblown. I am not too concerned about his production being lower in a lockout year when he has been struggling with a calf injury.

i really don't care about losing McGee. Having a guy who has no clue at center has just killed the Wizards defense. As of right now the Wizards are giving up 102.3 ppg (2nd worst in the league). Opponents are shooting 46% (26th).

It will be interesting to how the defense changes with Nene.

The problem isn't just he's overpaid. He's also about to turn 30, the deal ends when he's 34! He's injury prone, and he appears to be in decline.

There's a reason why Denver so quick to get out of a FA deal months after agreeing to it.

Clarification: That second-round draft from LAC (via NOH) is actually in 2015, not this year. So, pump the brakes if you were giddy

Put me in the "Happy" camp. In regards to Young, I'm indifferent. He was walking in two months anyway and basically we just got it over with earlier. The deal for me comes down to Mcgee vs. Nene. I know I'm a novice fan but I watch a lot of basketball. And good basketball and J. Mcgee just don't go together. There had never been a more frustrating Wizard to watch in probably my entire life (29 years). Nene is not a cancer, still pretty productive on a down year and other than his age, I can't figure out why everyone convinced he's about to fall off a cliff?

You can user PER all you want but has anyone thought that maybe Mcgee just is what he is? And once his athleticism goes or he gets injured, what type of player will he be? A terrible one because he doesn't have the basic smarts or instincts (basketball wise, no clue about his overall intelligence) to change his game. The contract sucks but is doesn't destroy or cap for the next 2-3 years, Nene brings a defensive mindset and professionalism, that has been sorely missing from this team for the past few years.

I give the trade an overall B. Not the best in the world because of Nene's contract but still a win in my book.
Just let the young boys play! It's truly the only hope at this point.
