Rumored Deal: Matthews back to the Jazz
I was listening to a Blazer insider on the radio today during all the trades the Blazers made and one deal that was said the Blazers tried to do was trade Wesley Matthews and Raymond Felton to the Jazz for Josh Howard and C.J. Miles and a possible draft pick.

Well, I'm glad the management didn't do that deal...... We already have two shooting guards (not clounting Grandpa Raja), no need for more......

Good thing the trade deadline ended two hours ago.
Also, Matthews has a ridiculous contract. We don't need that.

Would have loved to get Matthews back here but no way in hell we would take back Felton and give up a draft pick at the same time.

Jazz probably didnt want to add #1 pick but I would have done deal ..basically #1 pick for Matthews...Done deal bc he knows the system, wants to play for the Jazz, and draft picks are no guarantees that players develop.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

Re: Rumored Deal: Matthews back to the Jazz
If KOC and Jazz wanted to pay Matthews that much then they would have matched the offer when they had the chance. Why would they absorb Feltons fat ass and give away a draft pick to shed themselves of CJ and Howards expiring contracts?
That is the worst trade I've seen in a long time. Not shocked that it didn't go through.

Re: Rumored Deal: Matthews back to the Jazz
If this is true, Jazz should have done it!
Felton expires this year, and Mathews contract matches his value. Everyone complains about Raja, but we got him on the cheap. We have to pay for decent players like Mathews if we want them.

Anyone who says Matthews isn't worth the money is just idiotic. To say they would have matched the offer is silly since it was FRONT LOADED, much like my mother. He has the skills the Jazz crave in a shooting guard. The primary drawback would be that Burks would be relegated to 2nd string. For better or worse, Matthews is a good deal for the current contract he's on, much like Paul Millsap.

I wonder if Portland would have considered throwing Oden in, since they came close to waiving him.
Might have been a good deal for the Jazz. I know that Oden is asking a ridiculously high price for his next contract, but once reality set in he might have been a decent deal.

Wes would have been great just not worth a first round. We already have someone who plays just as well as Wes on the bench name Burks not to mention corbin has something for miles.

Re: Rumored Deal: Matthews back to the Jazz
for one, the jazz cant trade a first round pick until minny gets it (via philly). and even then, it is against league rules to trade consecutive 1 round picks.
talking about the jazz trading a first round pick for anyone/thing is pointless.

Matthews is overpaid and Felton is a lump of fatty poop. I'm glad KOC didn't make this trade because it wouldn't have given Burks any more minutes at the point as well as SG.

Aren't both CJ and Howard out of contract next season? Don't know why they would have even contemplated taking on Matthews' contract. Burks and Hayward going forward is the better option.

You can't trade consecutive future first round picks. The Nets just traded their first round two years in a row.
But still a terrible deal. Matthews would have been perfect next to dwill, but with no idea what our point guard situation is gonna be like, awful idea to commit that much money to him. And felton is literally untradeably bad.
This is where it pays to have such a conservative organization, they don't make panic moves like the nets, wizards etc. But I still think there is a middle ground for them to be a little more aggressive building for the future.

Hate to break it to the other Jazz fans, but Matthews has been awful in the past two months.

Re: Rumored Deal: Matthews back to the Jazz
I would like Matthews, but only for the right deal.
He does not have a bad contract. His was front loaded so now he only makes about 6 mill right?
Matthews is good. Maybe Portland will try to dump him this summer.

Re: Rumored Deal: Matthews back to the Jazz
Matthews contract is one year too long unfortunately. I would have loved to have him back otherwise.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Re: Rumored Deal: Matthews back to the Jazz
A couple of problems with this rumor--the Jazz are at $57.6 mill (estimated) and the salary cap is $58 mill (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2011/11/26/ ... p-prorated). Portland is at about $79 mill.
This trade is very lopsided salary-wise as reported:
Wesley Matthews $6,135,160 $6,505,320 $6,875,480 $7,245,640
Raymond Felton $7,500,000
CJ Miles $3,700,000
Josh Howard $2,150,000
plus a draft pick
They would have to do something like Miles and Howard for Matthews and a second transaction of Felton for the Memo trade exception (7.5 mill of it) to make it work.
Now the Jazz not only lose a sizable portion of their trade exception and a future draft pick, they add Wes' salary of $6.5 for 2012-13, $6.9 for 2013-14, and $7.2 for 2014-15--and have to find time for Wes, Burks, and Hayward. Not to mention Matthews' struggles of late.
