Re: The Kemba Walker Thread
If Kemba can just not completely suck at FG% he would be pretty awesome. I'm sure he'll improve for next season but I never thought it would be this bad.

If memory serves me right Jason Kidd was a notoriously bad shooter when he came into the leauge. I think this would really only be a huge problem if Kemba was lazy which we already know he's not. I imagine if continues to practice, and our team continues to get better ending his need to score as much his percentages will go up eventually.

But he was also a brilliant playmaker. Kemba isn't known as a playmaker, he's known as a scorer. But he can't do that well. Reminds me of matt carrol in that respect (old man carrol).

Say what y'all want about Kemba (not a playmaker, bad shooter, & etc.), but as of right now, he's the most efficient player on the Charlotte Bobcats roster with a player efficiency rating (PER) of 15.4.

Re: The Kemba Walker Thread
I like what I see from Kemba as far as his PG play is concerned. When he was a starter with DJ out our offense was terrible but in March as a backup he is more poised and does a better job of getting the ball to his teammates in a position where they can score. The result has been that our bench lately is outplaying our starters and usually Bobcats make a comeback when the bench comes in. So I like that Kemba is improving his play. Bobcats saw to many rookies that didn't progress.
If Kemba can work hard on that elbow jumper really hard this summer I still think he can someday be an all star. He will always struggle at the rim, but as he gains a bit of reputation more calls will go his way and if he can master that mid range jumper that he can get all the time due to speed and handles he can be a scorer we all wanted him to be when we drafted him. If he improved every year he was in college he can also improv3e in the NBA.

Why are you guys so way up or way down. Kemba may not be young Jason Kidd, but he is hardly old man Matt Carroll either.

You're right. Carroll is taller.

Re: The Kemba Walker Thread
i think at this point, given what kemba's shown this season, it's safe to say he was an appropriate pick at #9. despite his shooting woes (and they are maddening at times), i think there's a lot to build on here. the shooting can't really get any worse, and you have to think he's going to work on it. hopefully he'll also get more serious about protecting the ball. defensively i think he's adequate and may work to improve on that a bit as well. i also think he has the capacity to lead the team one of these years. all in all a solid pick, patience will be rewarded with him i think.

Re: The Kemba Walker Thread
In that NBA TV Special, Kemba's trainer harped on how good his shooting mechanics were and they looked fine to me. I think his shooting woes are stemming more from adjusting to a new role and the NBA more than simply a broken jumpshot. He went from being the man at UConn, being on court practically all game to get his rhythm with a 35 second shot clock to being randomly subbed in to games with a 24 sec clock. Plus, he's transitioning more from SG to PG and learning that on the fly. I think simply being a rookie is the root of all his troubles and will lessen with experience. I also think a dynamic scorer for a teammate would be nice for him to play off of but I don't think we'll be getting one of those this year.

No he isn't. He's always been a point guard. It just turns out that he sucks at it (and would be even worse as a SG anyway).

Re: The Kemba Walker Thread
I've said before that I don't really see anything wrong with Kemba's mechanics. He gets a bit inconsistent with squaring his shoulders to the rim, but on the whole his shot looks very clean.
The issue with him is his lift, and I think it has a lot to do with his (relative) lack of range. He never really was known for being a great outside shooter, and a lot of that probably has to do with him simply not needing to develop that aspect of the game because he was so much quicker than his opponents and could get to the rim easily enough. But that's not the point I'm trying to make.
Now that he's in the NBA, he knows that he has to expand his offensive repertoire outside of the occasional mid range step back. And as most would know, to deepen the range on your jumper, you start using more legs (and add a bit more arc).
So as he's changing his muscle memory, he's become a bit wonky on his lift. That's why instead of missing to the sides (as is typically a result of bad form), you'll see him shoot either short or long. It's because his body doesn't naturally know how much to jump.
I am not a Kemba fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I have faith that in time he'll be able to get his FG% up to more respectable numbers.

Crunk you are being irrational. Kemba does not suck at being a point guard right now his jumper sucks.

Re: The Kemba Walker Thread
DJA is being selfish he knows if he sits, he will not start again.
“I really don’t want to (sit out),” Augustin said. “We have 18 games left and we want to keep fighting through it. Hopefully I will play.”

Selfish is as selfish does. Augustin started out the season on a tier knowing that Kemba was in his shadow, but shadows don't show in the dark. Unfortunately for DJA, Kemba is ahead of him now. Not even finishing out this season will convince the skeptics otherwise. The numbers speak for themselves.

That's why he averages more rebounds than assists!

Crunk- his distributing has been improving as the season has progressed, but really who the hell does he have to pass it too? Hendo isn't assertive enough with the ball half the time, Magette drives in to make contact- whereby lowering the sucess of his shot 90% of the time (and thats when he isn't injured), Reggie Williams is as hot/cold as you can get before we mention sleepy richardson, Boris Diaw might as well have taken naps in game, Tyrus Thomas is just starting to return to his previous mediocre state, DJ Augustin is shooting ice out there right now, Byron Mullens can nail jumpers but isn't a real force in the post, and Biz needs to learn how to catch....

Plus Hendo doesn't always catch and shoot, he likes to dribble into a shot even off of a pass and if the player makes a basketball move (other than shoot) after the pass then there is no assist on the play.

Jose Calderon was getting assists on a bad team. Never seemed to slow him down.
