I did a little research on Drummond's rebounding

Per 40 in college via DX:

Andre Drummond: 4.7 ORB, 5.9 DRB, 10.6 TRB

Deandre Jordan: 3.8 ORB, 8.2 DRB, 11.9 TRB

Javale McGee

Freshman: 3.8 ORB, 5.0 DRB, 8.7 TRB
Soph: 3.7 ORB, 7.1 DRB, 10.7

BJ Mullens:

3.3 ORB, 5.9 DRB, 9.2 TRB

This season per 36:

Jordan: 4.1 ORB, 6.9 DRB, 11.0 TRB
McGee: 3.9 ORB, 7.4 DRB, 11.4 TRB
Mullens: 2.4 ORB, 5.7 DRB, 8.2 TRB

So my best guess judging from this and the fact that NCAA rebounding translates very well, is that Drummond can be one of the best offensive rebounders in the league, but is likely to be a disappointing defensive rebounder.

JVal and Drummond although I'm not a huge fan of either prospect, could potentially be a ridiculous offensive rebounding combination

Always been a fan of the potential of a Drummond/Val frontcourt. A lot of potential there. Drummond is a huge risk though but if he's available at 5 and everything looks good at work outs and the combine, I would take him. Drummond is going to take time though. I think working with Hakeem would be game changing for him and I was taking him, I'd try to make that happen as soon as possible.

If Drummond falls to us we have to take him. Thats an amazing future frontcourt that's toooo good to pass on. Sign Nash. He'll make Drummond look like Amare. Then trade Andrea for Josh Smith.

2011 - 4 of top 5 NCAA players were freshmen
2010 - 3 of the top 5
2009 - 1 in the top 5
2008 - 4 of the top 5
2007 - 3 of the top 5

2006 - 1 freshman in top 5
2005 - 1 freshman in top 5
2004 - 2 HS, 0 freshmen
2003 - 1 HS, 2 freshmen
2002 - 0 freshmen or HS in the top 5

To sum up - before implementing the one and done 7 of the 25 previous top 5 picks were either freshmen or HS seniors. Since implementing the one and done 15 of the 25 top 5 picks have been freshmen.

Thus far, it seems as though the one and done rule is having exactly the opposite effect that was intended - teams are actually focusing on YOUNGER players at the top of the draft.

I don't fully agree with your conclusion. Teams may be adverse to youth, but they are even more concerned about being able to get the best talent with lesser risk - What the one and done rule has done is create more certainty and less risk as more data is now known about the youngest eligible players, You can be much more confident drafting the top players of an age group after they have played one year of college vs right out of high school -- as a result more of the best players of the youngest eligible group will get drafted high.

I don't know about all of that. I like Josh Smith and Steve Nash but they're short term fixes. We gotta build this without any band-aids so I wouldn't deal Bargs for Josh Smith not because I don't like him but because it makes little sense. Nash I would rather see join a contender and get a ring. So if we're going to bring in a new PG, I'd look to move Bargs + assets to make that happen instead.

Mason Plumlee returning to Duke..i'm interested to see what Quincey Miller is going to do..apparently he is making his decision today..he would be a high reward pick in the first round.

We should aim for HB and MKG, if we unlucky only then we should think of Lamb or Beal possibility. Drummond has bust all written over him.

We need to get a 2nd 1st round pick, preferably in the mid round level.
If we could trade our 2 2nd rounders plus a future 1st or a roster player like .. Jose or Bayless
BC, get that done and draft Beal, then get a nice SF like PJ III or if we could somehow get Kendall Marshall ...

Without a doubt, MKG fills the largest hole in the Raptors line up. Davis and T-Robb are not 'hole fillers' but you can't deny their potential. If either are available when the Raptors pick, you'd have to take them.

However, it is very likely the Raptors will be picking 7th or 8th, so Lamb declaring today becomes a very real possibility for the pick. I'd still prefer MKG or Beal though.

Worst case scenario, say we get 7th or 8th pick

Post#1332 » by vexen » Tue Apr 10, 2012 6:16 pm

What is the best plan "B" possible if the lottery balls bounce the other way and we win a few more games.

What would you do with that pick? Would you trade it? Who would you Draft and why?

The following is off the board: (Andre Drummond doesn't declare)
Anthony Davis, Thomas Robinson, MKG, Harrison Barnes, Bradley Beal, Jeremy Lamb

This is what I would do, draft Austin Rivers then trade his rights along with Ed Davis + Filter for Rondo. I don't know if Boston would do it but it definitely would make some sense for them, Davis can replace KG when he leaves/retires and Rivers plays for his dad.

I agree. I've been a long time of fan of Quincy Miller. How do you know he's making a decision today though? I think trading someone like Ed to grab him in the mid-first round would be a good pick up.

This draft has a lot of kids returning. Not nearly as deep as it was few weeks ago which makes it less likely to get a second round steal as guy go up to the first round.

Wow, that's an absolute nightmare. I'd explore trading the pick if that was the case. Not sure for who but it'd be a young player...I'd probably see how Milwaukee feels about a pick swap including Jennings and some other pieces or whatever.

I'm hoping that never happens.

One would hope that after two/three years in the league playing with one of the pg's to ever play the game one would have picked up a thing or two how to play in the nba. Drummond would be in his third year playing beside a third year Val both with mature bodies and nba expierance. If anything he's be looking at multiple allstar appearances instead of becoming a scrub.

But with most of the kids who have so far said they're returning to school, it was always presumed they would do so. Which of the prospects going back to school actually surprised you?
