That's right. You don't because you're just an employee. But you bank does that every chance they get. ;)

(assuming that you work for a bank that's helped destroy the hopes and dreams of many Americans that's given out sub-prime loans. Correct me if I'm wrong.)

actually my bank is pretty rock solid financial stability wise, i guess they did do some sub prime lending a few years ago when it was the "thing to do" but they got out of it before the storm hit i think

If you don't have a solid financial advisor that you can trust from Merrill Lynch, then there's nothing wrong in investing online. You just have to do a lot of research the market trends, real estate market, and see where the big players (eg Warrren Buffet) dip into the market.

if you're not really an experienced trader i wouldn't do it

having all that information is nice, but for someone inexperienced it could be overwhelming and cause you to do a lot of unwise things with your money

That is good advice. I like to add that it helps to learn from someone who's been there when it comes to investing.

I did a lot of investments when I was younger but it was mostly studying companies and the stock market, joining a Bulls and Bears club. It wasn't until I was 19 years old until I actually traded with my own money and I had a good idea of what I was doing.

cd's have really bad rates right now, so probably the mutual funds but then your playing with the market instead of a set return

depends on how much risk you want to take

solid advices, thanks SK and hermes.

I'm not that much of a risk taker and I'm juggling between online stocks and and mutual funds and I'm leaning at the latter. problem is, if something happens to my money, I don't want to blame anyone else. right now my pros for online trading: 1) I manage my own money and 2) less initial investment. for mutual funds: 1) an expert is managing my money (kinda contradicts what I said before) and 2) low risk.

and my financial advisor btw is Robert Kiyosaki. :P was supposed to invest on opening up a grill but partners got busy.

I'm pro being smart. I still agree with hermes that it might not be for everyone especially for those not experienced.

I like Robert Kiyosaki. He was one of my role models growing up when I first read Rich Dad Poor Dad.
