I'm more of a conspiracy theorist, FAH1223.

This is (essentially) what I posted in the Lakers/Denver thread on the General NBA Discussion board:

Game 7 is going to come down to how much the refs let the Lakers get away with and how well Denver can overcome the calls that will go against them.

Denver is the faster team. Denver has more depth. Sessions and Blake are overmatched by Miller and Lawson. Gallinari and Afflalo had 12 assists between them [in game 6]--the Nuggets play team ball, unlike LA which relies on Kobe or Bynum. As the series goes on, the stamina and quickness of Faried is more than negating Pau's height and skill level. McGee has had his moments of effectiveness against the Lakers, even in LA. Brewer's speed has really hurt the Lakers.

I think Denver has all the momentum but with game 7 being in LA, the refs are the Lakers' advantage. I watched the end of the Celtics/Hawks and the officiating brutally favored the home team and the team that always gets the calls, Boston. I expect the same in LA.

Can Denver prevail with a young team? I expect Faried to get two quick fouls and I expect both Bynum and Artest to knock down Nuggets as if they are bowling pins (with referees passively allowing this to go uncalled). LA might win in a blowout if they're hitting threes.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Let Kobe get his 30-40 points. Triple-team Bynum and get him frustrated and checked out of the game. Pau, Sessions and the others will not beat you.

I am a little concerned that Ron Artest will be back. He may actually help the Lakers a lot. But, I'm still very confident Denver gets the upset and moves on to OKC.

I think Gasol is one of the big keys to the game. If he gets going, I think the Lakers can win. I expect Kobe and Bynum to do well, but I think the Nuggets have a good chance if Gasol doesn't have a good game.

I think the Lakers are in trouble and not just in this series but long term.

- Bynum is far too enigmatic and immature to be relied on consistently to be your best player.
- Gasol peaked a couple years ago and while he has moments of impact, those are becoming fewer and has become very susceptible to athletic/powerful bigs.
- Kobe is getting a little long in the tooth as well and can shoot them into or out of a game.

Outside of the 3 above - they don't really have tremendous value in their lineup. Bynum will certainly get them something but Gasol's value is declining. Kobe is not going anywhere. Metta will have an ETO for 2012/13. They have no cap space next year and will not until both Kobe and Gasol expire. It will be interesting to see what they do over the next couple years to remain in contention.

They'll be a 1st or 2nd round team. Bynum is supposed to be the guy to keep them into contention once Kobe is done. Bynum is only 24. The thing is, he doesn't respect Mike Brown and has tuned him out.

Brian Shaw would have been much better for that team

Was your buddy sober when he said it?

I don't know. But he felt compelled to call me and leave a message on my phone to inform me of this Lakers conspiracy.

I said/implied earlier that I didn't think the Nuggs could win.

Part of me totally agrees with what CCJ wrote about the refs in LA.
But part of me thinks the Nuggs could actually do it. Which I would
heartily enjoy and leave MIA as the sole remaining team I actively
root against. It would be kinda funny to have the Clips, assuming
they do close out MEM, be the remaining LA team in the playoffs.
Come to think of it, I don't really like them much either.

ATL is dumb but they also got seriously hosed by the zebras.
In addition to the non-called dead ball foul, I thought JJ (or whoever it was)
got fouled on the drive just before that as well. The refs knew who
was 'supposed' to win in that game.

Yeah, there were a bunch of reasons for Lakers fans to be dejected. Kobe's force of will is only going so far, and he had to rely on a dangerous hack of Faried on one play that - if he does something like that again - he's going to get suspended. I've never seen Gasol look like this. I've seen him tired before, but... he looked lifeless last night. Bynum's a helluva player, but he shows signs of being a punk. And look at the rest of the team... they've got guys playing major minutes who would struggle to make most rosters. They're at the point where they NEED Ron Artest - who's mentally unbalanced in his 30's. They are a mess.

Ron Artest will be back for the next game, perhaps the Lakers can elbow their-way to a win.

I don't think I'm going out on a limb by predicting game 7 is going to be a train-wreck - an awful game that's too compelling to turn away from.

Or will that be the Caps/Rangers game? :o

I could easily see what CCJ said happening. Should be an interesting game to watch. I also agree with the LA situation which makes it all that much more likely the refs call it for them. This may be their last run at it.

Interesting.

They are starting Blake from the outside tonight.

I'm pulling to LAC and Tough Juice.

LAC have 4 x Wizards so it is the closet thing to rooting for the home team.

Grizz need to do everything in their power to trade Gay. Dude's never met a shot he didn't like.

Grizzlies WIN. I'm so happy. They're my squad out West and I'm confident they will win Game 7 at home.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

I was surprised that he got a max deal. He has never had a PER over 18.

Rudy Gay needs to stop taking bad shots and the Grizzlies can win big. Mike Conley Jr. can get ANY shot he wants. I remember when he came in the league he had no J whatsoever and now it seems like he can pick his spots and be automatic when he wants to score.

If worst comes to worse, Memphis has the amnesty in their pocket for Rudy Gay
