Calipari cuts CV from Dominican Team

Post#1 » by FlipTSO » Tue Jun 12, 2012 6:52 pm

The Detroit Pistons $40 million man Charlie Villanueva will not be on the Dominican Republic’s National Team for this summer’s Olympics. Head coach for the DR is Kentucky’s John Calipari and Calipari deemed Villanueva “overweight,” saying to Deportes en la Z, “Charlie was not in good form when we saw him.” He added: “He was overweight, and unfortunately, we could not slow down the entire team and it was a decision taken collectively.”

Villanueva played in 13 games for the Pistons this season while battling a sprained ankle.

The Dominican National Team features Al Horford, Jon Horford and Francisco García among others.

I can't wait till this joker is no longer a Piston. He's just too lazy, too soft and mentally weak. I want some toughness on this team and guys with work ethics. Im done with CV types, I hope Joe D is too.

Breaking news from the Palace. Pistons release Charlie Villanueva. He is signed by the spare tires dance team.

Terry Foster ‏@TerryFoster971
Ousted Piston Charlie Villanueva just had a press conference. "I'm taking my talents to Burger King," Charlie V said.

Pistons need to amnesty this guy - just to keep his sad sack mentality away from the team. I don't want to bring in a Meyers Leonard, who's knock is maturity/drive, and have him become buddies with CV.

Get rid of him and have all high motivation, high worth ethic guys on the team.

LMAO. This is why the NBA needs to learn from the NFL.

As long as it's a two way street. Ie players can get out of bad contracts as well.

Just amnesity the guy. I mean let him go else where. His career is nearly over. I think at this point Adam Morrison has a better future in the NBA.

Whats next? Charlie Villanueva gets cut from pickup game? If hes on the Pistons next year, there is no hope for Dumars. Cheik Samb would bring more to this team.

I agree; I want hard workers and nothing but on this team. CV is an embarrassment to the organization.

Kinda glossed over the rest of the thread.

Still processing the fact that we're paying starters minutes to a guy who couldn't even make the Dominican Republic national team.

Painful.

This is just pathetic. An all time low for CV. I was actually hoping he could work his way into being a nice stretch 4 for about 15mpg but not after this. Amnesty him and get it over with please. I don't want him weighing down our team either. No pun intended.

He almost showed promise at the end of the season. I was starting to think that he needed all that time off to get himself healthy, but now I know that he truly has given up.

No, but they have a weak union. If teams can cut players who they don't think are living up to their contracts, than players should be able to leave into free agency if they think they are outperforming their contracts. I have ZERO issue with players in the NFL who hold out for a new contract because of this. Team signs Player X for $10M a season and he stinks it up and is cut - fair game. But if they sign Player Y for $2M a season and he's an all-pro than he should be able to opt out as well to get fair open market value.

NFL players do hold out in order to get a restructure.

Hahah, CV was supposedly at the lowest playing weight in his career at the end of last season... Well I guess they guy has zero drive.

I mean, we already knew that though...
