i wouldn't have given Jameer an extension on his decision. it's gonna play out 1 of 2 ways, either we want him long term, or we don't. if we want him long term then we'll sign him to an extension, in which case he can opt out and we'll re-sign him with his bird rights. if we don't want him long term, then he'll opt out and pursue other options elsewhere.

either way, both result in him opting out.

Dwight has made it clear he wants a better PG here....maybe that wore on Jameer a bit....plus it makes sense business wise to opt out.....

With Hedo, Q, and Duhon coming off the books the following season.

Not that simple. We're at $51,184,420 with Howard, Turk, Davis, Richardson, Duhon, Q, and Harper.

If we trade JRich or Davis, we still have to match salary. Unless there is another person like Redick out there who can give us immediate cap relief that we can trade for, I can't see us freeing up cap space. Side note: Which makes Redick such a valuable trade commodity now that it's not even funny.

If we use the stretch provision on the other guy we still only relieve part of his salary... not enough to help the Magic get under the cap far enough to add Deron.

If Jameer was hell bent on leaving ORL, he would have opted out tomorrow. Him asking for an extension on the deadline to decide means he really wants to stay but at the right price. It'll be interesting to see what the new GM plans on doing.

If Jameer opts out, then that means he's done with Orlando. I don't see him coming back after that. If he opts in, then I see us re-signing him next season when we have cap to get some good players.

The problem is that WE doesnt exists so far, because the Magic dont have a GM, so he had to wait.

I like your thinking, but teams with cap space are generally looking to rebuild with youth or players in their prime. Not add an old guy like JRich. Not even Minny who has a need at SG.

With Rubio, that team was just about to make the playoffs. He gets injured and they fall apart. Next season he will be healthy and if they add a shooter like J-Rich, then they'll be in the playoffs no doubt.

Take it for what it's worth, but DJChino (102Jamz) who loosely knows a lot of the guys, told me that Jameer packed up his stuff and moved his cars out 3 weeks ago.

true, but why was an extension needed if hes so hell bent on leaving?

Re: Bobcats coach search - RT @sam_amick: Breaking (...) Brian Shaw looking good after meeting with MJ- http://bit.ly/LpANWl

After Sloan pulling out, Shaw is the frontrunner in Charlotte. Shaw also on Portland's radar.
Hall of Fame coach Jerry Sloan told SI.com he pulled out of the running for the Charlotte Bobcats head coaching job.

Sloan was believed to be one of three finalists to replace Paul Silas after he was fired in late April, but it now appears the job will go to either Pacers assistant Brian Shaw or Lakers assistant Quin Snyder.

"I took myself out today," Sloan said by phone. "I don't want to comment on it because it's never profitable for anybody. It just makes it sound like you're making a statement about someone. But they were wonderful and there were no problems. I just took myself out."

While Sloan met with Bobcats owner Michael Jordan about the job May 25, a source close to the situation said Shaw met with Jordan on Thursday and that the meeting was "excellent." Snyder, who spent the 2010-11 season as a 76ers assistant and three years as an NBDL coach (Austin Toros) after his seven-year run as head coach of Missouri, was also expected to meet with Jordan this week, but it's not known when that will take place.

After his abrupt resignation midway through the 2010-11 season in Utah, Sloan has been clear about his desire to return to the sideline. While there are openings in Portland and Orlando, he said he has not had any contact with either team.

"I wasn't involved in (those situations), and people said I was but I wasn't at all," Sloan said. "I only talked to Michael Jordan. That's it."

Sloan insisted he wasn't disappointed.

"No, not at all," he said. "Whatever happens, happens. I don't have any control over those things. I just do what we've got to do. If somebody calls me, I guess I'd listen to what they have to say. But I don't have an agent, and if somebody calls I'd be willing to listen to them."

Shaw, the longtime Lakers assistant who was a finalist for the Cavaliers job that went to Byron Scott in 2010, was expected to be a candidate for the Trail Blazers job as well.

Yet the fact that his meeting with Jordan went very well is significant, as a source with knowledge of the situation said the Bobcats owner was considering re-opening the process to more candidates if he wasn't adequately impressed by the finalists. And while it would seem Shaw is the clear frontrunner here, a source close to the situation said a decision has not yet been made.

Shaw is going to be offered the Bobcats' gig IMO. If he turns it down, then Snyder will get it.

I was confident that Shaw would be our coach a few weeks ago, but now I expect it to be Mike Malone.

ORLANDO – In a move that should satisfy the long-term wishes of the Orlando Magic and Jameer Nelson’s immediate future, the NBA approved an amendment on Thursday to the veteran point guard’s contract that will delay his opt-out decision until later in the month.

Yea im fine with Shaw or Malone.

Its really not fair to Shaw for us to make him wait this long to make a decision, if he does indeed get the Bobcats job good for him.

Return to Orlando Magic
