Magic fan here.
Would you absorb the contract for Jason Richardson if we included this year's 19th overall pick?
This is his deal:
2012-13 $5,799,625
2013-14 $6,204,250
2014-2015 $6,601,125 (Player Option)

As of right now, i dont think we have the cap space to do that with the cap holds we currently have in place (Nash/Hill/Lopez). SO i doubt a deal can be made, because the soonest it could happen is after the draft. Even then i doubt our FO would go for it.

Yes if you take Warrick. That would save Orlando around 12-13M.

I definitely would. He fits in perfectly in our system and is a better option at sg for us than any free agent outside of Eric Gordon. We have the cap space and would love the extra pick. It would be a win win for us and might even help us keep Nash.

His contract isn't too bad, he already has familarity with the team/city, and the pick is pretty valuable since this draft is so deep. Any second thoughts or is that a firm no?

We could take Warrick if you would take Duhon or Quentin Richardson and Justin Harper.

Warrick is a $4M expiring. I don't think it would be too much for ya'll to swallow for us to take back $18.5M in salary.

Its not a firm no.
Do the Suns even have the cap room to take him before the draft? Cause we still have Nash, Hill, Lopez on the books I think.
If their not bringing back Nash, and Hill, and draft a SG, then it doesn't make much sense to get J-Rich.
I would rather have Ross, Rivers, Waiters, Lamb than J-Rich at this point tbh simply because of youth.

Well, he is one of the few here that wants to trade away picks to shed OUR contracts. But the majority here want to figure out a way to pick up picks...and we need a sg. So it's probably not real firm if we could absorb the contract with cap holds or execute the trade after the draft if we release cap holds.
But of course it's not up to us. Do you think that is what your new GM is trying to do? I noticed he was trying to get rid of the pick I think at some point. This might be something Sarver would do...he's the type of owner who would take on salary to get to the minimum salary threshold to pick up a pick because he doesn't want to pay $3M out of pocket to pick up a pick if he can help it.
I'd rather have Ross and Lamb too, but I wouldn't be opposed to having one of them and JRich. And Waiters is a different type of player...definitely wouldn't mind having him and JRich..Waiters is perfect 6th man. (this in ref to prev post)

You could easily renounce Grant Hill. All you do is lose his Bird Rights, and even if you wanted to keep him, I don't think you NEED to keep his Bird Rights in order to do so. The bidding won't be crazy.
As for Ross, Rivers, Waiters, Lamb... you can still select one with your 13th pick. The beauty then, is that you have the 19th pick.
As a Magic fan, these are the popular names associated with that pick... Kendall Marshall, Marquis Teague, PJ3, Terence Jones, Quincy Miller, Royce White, Moe Harkless, Jared Sullinger to name a few.
IMO, one of those guys would greatly help your rebuilding effort in the post Steve Nash era. JRich is a total team guy who could serve to be a good mentor too.

From what I saw Warrick expires in 2014. Am I missing some sort of clause he has in his contract?
Also, JRich has a Player Option in his last year and he may not neccessarily take it. He could opt out in chase of a ring or he may not want to be used as a trade piece in that season (as an expiring contract) or he may even think he should opt out in order to get a new deal.

Yea I guess if it works salary wise, its a possibility.
But at the point in his career, he isn't much of a better player than Dudley who we already have...but the #19 pick may do the trick.

Didn't you JUST say that you'd give away a lottery protected pick to trade Childress after that last trade went down?

Yea... but that doesn't mean that I don't want us to trade for more picks.
And the way I see it, we're gonna be in the lottery for a while so if we lottery protect it enough (and then turn it into a 2nd rd pick in 2015) then it will turn out to be a good deal for us.
And yes MJ is stupid enough to do that.

Hell no to J Rich. Remember guys, get younger, develope, rebuild, Orlando is on the hook for J Riches contract until after the 2014-15 season, and he is already like 31.

e in that season (as an expiring contract) or he may even think he should opt out in order to get a new deal.
On half the sites you check the 13-14 year is a team option. Gambo (local reporter) originally reported as a team option. Sites like spotrac and hoopshype have it as guaranteed. I'm pretty sure it's a team option but obviously not certain.
According to ShamSports, which very rarely gets it wrong, Warrick is a team option in 13-14: http://www.shamsports.com/content/pages ... s/suns.jsp

Well no team is going to take on one that turns into a 2nd later....picks generally get better, not worse as the years progress (less protection).
The only time it turns into a 2nd if it is contingent on your team making the playoffs or something (like the Utah/GS trade)
The trade that went down tonight is only lottery protected for one year...

Getting the 19th pick is going to help you get younger, develop and rebuild. JRich isn't a lousy talent. You guys have been loving Grant Hill who makes 31 look like a spring chicken. There is place on the team for veterans even for a young team trying to rebuild. But I'm sure you know that.
