Why not stay elite at one thing and then work on the other? Try to have a success with either a future MLE or a draft pick?

15 million dollars. The Bulls are punching a ticket to basketball hell if they match this.

the deal is back loaded in the final year for 15 mil. that's a huge expiring deal to dangle if we need to move him later on.

Expiring deals....What did Kris Kaman's big expiring deal get N.O.? The answer:

NOTHING. and he can actually score.

Morey has geared the contract like this for 2 reason:

1. To have a massive expiring
2. To ensure he makes it as difficlut as possible for us to match.

It would be a silly move and we'd be complaining about matching this deal and having 27 million wrapped up in the centre position.

1.It doesn't go against the salary cap for Houston same as it goes for the Bulls. Rockets wouldn't have to pay him $15M in the last season.

Im not following. Why wouldnt Houston have to pay 15 mil?

The deal on the third year can only be $14M according to Hollinger.

5/5.25/14 is better than 5/5.25/10/11 that was offered earlier.

Who else can the Bulls find at 5 million dollars besides Asik?

They might have to match this offer.

By the way, this whole discussion is moot until someone can confirm that restricted free agents can be signed and traded. I think they can, and that the change in the cba was that they don't gain an extra year by doing so.

If I'm right about that, we still need confirmation that the verbal agreement asik and rockets made doesn't prevent a sign and trade with Houston. There wouldnt be benefit to asik, and as stated earlier the benefit to rockets would be the bulls letting the rockets ave asik.

We need answers. Someone besides freidel needs to call Larry coon.
We have Martell Webster. He's called Kyle Korver here, and we shall love him and squeeze him and call him Ashton. -BrooklynBulls

that expiring deal at 15 mil(BYC or not) would be a nice trade chip to add to make a deal work.

What team is going to trade you a really good player for a $15M backup center? And why would the bulls trade for a bad contract?

It's a poisonous salary. The Bulls aren't going to get anything worth a **** back.

The choice is this: make your defense weaker, or try to replace CJ/Wats/Brew with guys that cost between 2 and 5 million over the next few years.

In year 3 you amnesty Boozer either way. But before then we also have the option of doing a trade to consolidate parts using either Taj or the Charlotte pick as a sweetener.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong ... But the summer leading into Asik's salary jumping to 15 mil is the SAME summer that next big free agent class hits the market. The one with LeBron, Melo, Chris Bosh, Granger, Rudy Gay, Wade, Dirk, and more.

That same summer Deng expires, along with Rip, and the Bulls can amnesty Boozer ... freeing up some room to be players in free agency. At that time, Rose will be fully recovered and just entering his prime. That would be a great opportunity to add a true second star to the team. But that can't happen if Asik's 15 mil salary is on the books ...

The 2014-2015 Free Agency Class - Lebron, Wade? (They don't want to come here now)
The 2015-2016 Free Agency Class - Love, Gordon?, Lopez? (Love talked about coming here before)

Asik expires before Derrick Rose FA Class can opt out.

K.C Johnson‏@KCJHoop

If Bulls match on Asik, they have $69.3 million committed to 9 players next season, just $1 million below projected luxury tax line.

What does this mean for our ability to keep him?

I'm working the math, I think Hollinger is wrong.

Free agency missions are tiring me. I want to acquire someone via trade, so I know what I get. This move (matching) continues our piling of trade assets.

Boozer+Asik would equate about 32 million in expirings that year
