I'm surprised nobody has brought that up before. Rondo's been shopped as much, maybe more than Ray. What a joke. Ray belongs with those arrogant, entitled, crybabies.

Rondo just went out and balled harder.

Pierce? He actually talked about it.. Said he's a Celtic no matter what happens, he'll always be a Celtic.. Said he understands its a business..

LOL Ray ALlen, you drama queen.

Thanks Ray Allen for helping the Celtics get banner #17. After struggling in the early rounds of those playoffs, he really came through in the 2008 finals. And he clearly was willing to play hurt this season when many other players would have sat. He clearly is one of the best shooters in nba history and as the Celtics saw from 2008-2010, he was more then just a shooter.

While I don't think his jersey should be retired by the Celtics, he should get a standing ovation from the fans when he returns to garden. We can all get tired of our bosses/coworkers so I'm not that upset with Ray Allen leaving the Celtics for the Heat since I honestly don't consider them to be the Celtics rivals.

Partially what made Ray Allen great is extreme confidence in his ability so it shouldn't be shocking that he felt a little bit disrespected but Celtic management shouldn't be blamed for doing what is best for the team.

This may be a blessing in disguise since if Ray signing may have led to Pietrus leaving the team and it wouldn't be shocking if Pietrus helps the team out more next year with his defense then RA would have with his 3 point shooting. If the team looks better then expected next year but the SG position is a relative weakness, the Celtics should be able to swing a trade by perhaps dangling a future first round draft pick.

The key to this off season was still getting at least one good big to take the pressure off of KG. If Sullinger on Melo really make a positive impact then the Celtics will be hard to beat even without Ray Allen. But even if Ray Allen had stayed and the other returning players performed fairly well, the Celtics probably need another big to contribute more.

So much for being a professional...its part of the job to be in constant trade talks when you are a valuable player, not a pretty thing to deal with but part of the game he plays. Said it before, Thanks for the help with the ring, but we live in the present, and as of now FU Ray! Our team could have been as deadly as MIA had we gotten him back, but he decided to screw us over for those divas down south!

I think he will, and deservedly so. But every time he touches the ball during games, he'll be booed like no other (as he should be).

Kind of weird. If the Celtics actually traded Ray Allen for OJ Mayo.....and upon free agency he signed with Miami...there wouldnt have been this much hate right? Right?....

Right.

Even if he just signed there after this season in Boston..

But it's the fact that WE OFFERED HIM A VERY GOOD CONTRACT. More than he got. We WANTED him back.

It would be sweet karmic justice if Miami trades Ray at some point against his wishes.

Appreciate the help winning #17. I'm only 24 so this was the first Celtics championship I was alive for and nothing could ruin it but it is disappointing to go back and watch it now knowing what happens with Ray.

On another note, I hope Ray gets booed out of the building when he comes back with the Heat. I wonder if he'll get the emotional video that Perk and Big Baby got when they came back. How could he possibly see that Pierce and KG are back and pretty much say screw it I'm going to go play with our arch rivals in South Beach.

I guess the commercials were wrong all of last year, Ray is South Beach. He will never be Causeway Street again, he will NEVER be a Celtic again. KG, Pierce, Rondo, even Perk are all Celtics in my mind because of how they play and their attitude and pride in wearing the green.

I can't blame Allen too much myself. He went where he felt most wanted. Even half the posters in this thread are saying that they didn't really care if he retired or left for another team, just not the Miami Heat. Gee, I can't imagine why he would leave for greener pastures.

Having said that, had Ray Allen stayed with the Celtics, he likely would have been the fourth guard in the line-up behind Rondo, Bradley, and Terry, coming off the bench for 15-20 mpg at most. For that role, a healthy Petrius, on the whole, can probably perform just as well.

damn...im a fan of ray allen but i can see why 98% of you are upset. I would be too.

It would be like seeing my fav player, john starks, going to the heats during the 90's just to win a ring.
Ray Allen should have just put his emotions aside and still be a celtic. Who cares if he was being shopped around or if he is having some tension with rondo. Plus, Allen already won a ring with some of the best nba players around....really stupid.

But I'm still a fan of Ray Allen....disappointed that he joined the Cheat.

Also the nba needs to make a hard cap and get rid of all these exceptions because it seems to me all he top teams can continue to sign any player they want. Also it looks like Camby will end up on the heat. When does this madness end?

The nba is just being ruined by the same super teams that continue to get better every year. The nfl is just so much more enjoyable right now because we have no idea who will be in the championship, unlike the nba where next year it will be the heat, lakers, thunder or spurs in the finals.

Seems spiteful to me. It's personal for everyone now. His legacy changes. He'll always be one of the contributors who brought Boston Celtics basketball back from the abyss, and he'll always be the guy that left for Miami. I don't think it's right or wrong if one of those things burns more brightly in the collective memory; right now the safe bet seems on the latter, but time will tell. Right now, I don't think I could ever cheer for him again. He got to flip everybody off, I hope it was worth it.

I am more angry at Ray for ditching KG and Paul for the team that they fought so hard against and nearly beat in a hard fought battle. I hope it fuels KG even more and gives Paul new focus for next year. I hate to say spiteful things and I guess I'll stop short of saying "I hope he get's injured" and things of that nature, but I am really pissed off at Ray and honestly do hope he has a horrible go in Miami. I would honestly like nothing more to see him fade into mediocrity then to see him hit even one 3 against us. Plus if there's one sports town you don't burn, it's Boston. And it's not because were a bunch of A$$holes it's because it's one of the best sports towns in the world and people here fall in love with their teams, and Ray, you just broke our heart. Don't expect to have an easy go of it when you show your face anywhere around here. We don't take kindly to traitors, but then, you must have asked yourself, "wwjdd" right?

Count me in the pissed off category, boo the F**K out of him from the first minute he steps into the Garden and never stop, ever. I'd like the entire first game against the heat to be one continuous boo from start to finish. I think it's more honest and sincere then clapping first and then booing, cause if you were just some scrub that wasn't such an important piece to what we had here, we wouldn't be so upset and hate you so much.

This is Johnny Damon to the Yankees but worse. Like, hey your awesome for what you did here and I'll miss you, but if you think you're gonna get an ovation when you come back in that putrid uniform, **** you. Come back in 5 years in a suit and a tie remembering the 08 team and I'll give ya a clap.

Gah so what if Boston put you in trade talks over and over again, they didn't. And they apologized with a handicapping deal for their franchise, good deal for you and a no trade clause. That's the number 2 thing that pisses me off.

The main thing is his legacy, he crushed it and probably crushed relationships with KG and Paul. At the beginning of FA I had no problem with ray leaving, I thought he was gonna join a team like the clippers or grizzlies for money and a chance to start after we didnt make a substantial offer. But then we did, and Ainge literally went against his word of 5 years and brought the band back together and ray said "no. Sorry Kevin, sorry Paul, you're too old, I'll never win there"

/drunken pissy rant.

Not singling you out but this situation reminds me of how desperate society is these days for silver linings. Instead of saying, "You know what, Ray? You're a **** ****", it seems a lot of people are looking for ways to justify his bull decision so they protect their emotional investment as a Celtics fan.

As I alluded to earlier, there used to be these things called competition and pride, where you embraced both of them to prove your worth as a talent. Thanks to LeBron and his no-father-figure, low-self-esteem BS, we're now in the era of "Win the quickest, easiest way you can." LeBron's a pioneer. He made it acceptable to ring chase. He took advantage of the "They'll get over it eventually" fan loophole and now it's in vogue.

So anyone out there who whines about how LeBron's getting picked on too much or everyone should leave him alone, **** YOU. Real basketball fans knew his "Decision" was the watershed moment that would irreparably tarnish the culture of the league. This bull trend will keep spreading like wildfire until NBA franchises start literally going out of business and we end up with some Globetrotters/Generals two team exhibition bull.

The Miami Heat and players like Battier, Steve Nash and Ray Allen just hasten the death of the NBA as legitimate professional basketball.

Sorry if it's already been answered, but why did that trade with Memphis involving OJ Mayo and Ray Allen fall through?
