yeah, i don't get the felton hate. he was good for us for the most part. had some bad habits with the poor shot selection and freezing out gallo, but he was overall a boon to our team.

i'll hate the move if it's to replace lin, but felton is really nice depth. this is a guy who was considered one of the better pg's in the league when he was with us.

we can use this depth to play melo at the four and squeeze out amar'e if he refuses to get his act together ...

I guess we forgot about Michael Andrew D'Antoni and the effect his system has on players' statistics.

Look at Felton's career before and after New York. Mediocre at best and downright awful last season.

Just to throw in a conspiracy theory, maybe this goes back to the Camby trade and original rumored Rockets offer for Lin. Myabe the Knicks really did have an understanding with the Rockets and that's why the Rockets were going to sign Lin to the more favorable offer and that's why the Knicks threw the extra assets at the Rockets in the Camby trade. Fast forward, the Rockets get the assets in the Camby trade and then squelch on their end of the deal and work out a bigger offer with Lin. Dola wants his payback and wants to make the Rockets squirm. Here we are now... Just a crazy thought.

Leaving doubt about whether or not they'll match Lin. That's why they were stalling receiving the offer also. If they ultimately match Lin, Houston has to scramble for a point guard. What does Houston do for the next few days while waiting? Go after whatever is left on the point guard market or stand pat?

Felton came here to start next to JKidd, if he knows that he'll be coming off the bench, he would sign elsewhere to be a starter, even if he has to go to Sacramento.

That's not true; Thomas would start over him in Sacramento. There's not a single team in the NBA right now where Felton would be the starting PG, other than Houston.

Felton will be a starter in Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago (Rose injured), Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Indiana, Miami, NOLA, New York, Orlando, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, and maybe Utah.

With Knicks paying lux tax, 1st two years on Lin could be worth the risk. Year 3 would be insane if he is a flash in the pan

That makes no sense. The amount of money that Lin will make the Knicks in year 1 will EASILY outweigh the losses in year 3. So even if Lin is a flash in the pan and they lose money in year 3, it's still a hugely profitable overall 3-year investment considering what he'd make for the Knicks in the first two years.

They'd still be making more money with Lin than without Lin.

Prigoni is an afterthought, collateral damage. Prigoni can take the offer and stay as the 15th man or he can go back home and start... or we can do right by him and trade to a team that needs depth at PG.

Prigoni is not a factor here. He was a nice guy to have as insurance... he was never a lock for any rotation minutes.

He wouldn't have signed if they told him they wouldn't play him. They did say they were going to give him playing time.

Lin played well under Woodson. He took over the 4th quarter of the Philly game, and that was a huge game for us. We looked GOOD with Stat, Melo, Lin, Chandler all together in that small sample size under Woody. I would've expected more of the same if we kept the core together.

I think they will match.

Two possible explanations :
1) Grunwald realized Kidd was 38, Pablo unproven and 35, Shump injured so he thought he should add Felton to add depth in case of injuries (Baron Davis, Jeremy Lin and Iman Shumpert all had injuries and missed games during the season and the playoffs). Felton could also be a trade asset or at worst a filler in the future.

2) Dolan told him not to match Lin's offer sheet so he immediatly grabbed Felton while he was still available.

As Felton received no other offer and the deal (3 years and $10 million) seems reasonable, I doubt there was a rush and Grunwald absolutely had to acquire Felton during the week-end. I think we will match and if we don't then I doubt the luxury tax will explain the change of heart (Woodson said Knicks would match and Lin was our starting PG on wednesday and when he was asked the same question on friday, after the Rockets new offer sheet, he said he didn't know yet and it was up to Grunwald to make a decision) but more Dolan being upset Lin signed the new offer sheet. If Knicks were willing to match the initial offer sheet then the Rockets only added $6 million in the third season. Can't see why the new offer would be so deadly for the Knicks compared to the initial offer.

Jimmy Dolan went crazy when Spree injured his hand on his boat and didn't inform the team until he came back from vacation, Dolan also blew a fuse when Larry Brown broke MSG's media policy. He also asked Woodson to fire his agent (also Larry Brown's agent). It's possible he's mad at Lin and his agent (Roger Montgomery). You never know with Dolan...

Yeah, I expect a match. This is a depth move clearly similar to how they are stocking up with the other guys this off-season. Most people are completely underestimating the need for depth due to injuries which are inevitable. If our only PGs after Lin are both mid to late 30s, that may not be the kind of depth the team wanted in total, but one more live body. Felton qualifies because he is pretty rugged and he can push the tempo if he is not playing full-time minutes.

And I do get a feeling this is a Dolan moment. Because I seriously doubt Woodson or Grunwald would blink here. Come on Jimmy, don't be a tempermental douche on us now. Sign Lin and go for the ring.
