But I have no enthusiasm for the upcoming season.

Being a sports fan is about romance and narrative. Usually, we have to invent one. Last season, a beautiful story was real. Every sports fans dream. Now? Dirt.

Now = current off season. Atleast see what happens when the season starts. Our new squad a deserves a chance.

For those who think you know this stuff better than me, the Rockets do have to pay Jeremy Lin $14.9M in '14-'15. This is a fact.

Lin counts against the Rockets' cap the average of the three-year, $25.1M contract. But they still pay him $15M in year three. How u.

 So where was this 8/8/8 thing come from? I know that's the average annually but I thought people were saying the poison pill only was for us. Confused me.

They pay the same as we do, but it counts as 8 8 8 on their cap each year.

The rage has not subsided, I see.

Best of luck to JLin in Houston. He's a good kid and I wish him success.

Let's move on now.

So it hits their cap as 8/8/8 but they still pay 15m in the third year? Help a bro out here.

Yes. We collect the interest on his 15 million until the third year. Cap figure is averaged over the three years.

HOU still have to pay Lin 5/5/15, but according to the new stupid CBA, the average salary count towards their cap, therefore the 8/8/8 figure.

Aside from matching and trading him down the road, Knicks couldn't get anything for Lin now in a S&T b/c he signed the offer sheet. Hahn stated on Twitter Lin was un-S&T-able to Houston once Lin signed the offer sheet.

If that is the case, perhaps the Knicks were angered that Lin actually signed the offer sheet rather than bringing them the number first, resulting in them losing options in whether to keep him on the offer sheet number or letting him go to Houston for assets.

If you can scientifically prove that Raymond Felton is 100x better Lin, it's still a disgustingly bad move to not match. He is an asset, even with his contract. He was the biggest story of the sports world so far this year and teams will trade for him, period. His contract does not hurt us against the cap whatsoever when we'll have 3 guys making $62 million that year anyway. We lost him for NOTHING.

If I told you back in mid-February that we were going to lose Lin, a RFA, in free agency, I can only imagine what kind of responses I would get.

On top of that, anyone with one eye and half a brain can see that we don't have a championship calibur team. There aren't any ways to remedy that either. Would Lin have made us one? No, of course not. Did he have potential to, or did the pieces we could have gotten for him have potential to? At least it gave us a chance.

Dolan is a joke, an absolute joke. In this situation, an 8-year-old would literally have done a better job than him.

Not sure why you folks are upset about the departure of Lin. Lin doesn't want to play for the Knicks. Why is it so hard to understand? Dolan told Lin he would match Rockets' initial offer. Lin then secretly flew to Houston to amend the terms of the offer, intentionally making it difficult for Knicks to match. The reality is, Lin's heart for New York was long gone.

Knicks tried to sign Nash!

Knicks signed Kidd!

Knicks had early discussions with Felton and eventually signed him.

All the while, they keep saying they're going to sign Lin. This causes Morey (and perhaps Lin) to make the third year of the contract a "ridiculous" amount.

See this interview for confirmation!

The only way Morey comes out looking good in this one: if they somehow get Dwight Howard for Lin to lob it to.

that makes sense. i was one of the people saying they should have sign n traded him if they knew they weren't gonna keep him but i think they go caught off guard by the new offer, and like you said once lin signed it they could no longer work a sign n trade.

with that said i was thinking about it, and i don't think the knicks could have offered enough to make a sign n trade work anyways since they could only offer 5 mil a year with small increases.

myself like some other posters, aren't that upset about him leaving... we're upset that we lost out on one of our only remaining assets in terms of a young quality player with upside.

This was really all he did that was even slightly abnormal- not telling the team he was going back. Everything else is standard, it's not like he delayed in letting Dolan know of the new offer. It's totally presumptuous to say he wanted out, especially if you're implying that he wanted out so badly that he would have been a chemistry problem here. Think about how much of a leap that is.

Ridiculous, now fans are spreading lies.

Lin never flew to HOU to amend the terms as the first offer was a verbal agreement leaked out by media. He then flew to Vegas to sign the final offer which is also the only offer ever on paper.

Jeremy's biggest downfall at the Knicks: he got along with role players but not the stars.
