Actually the Knicks had a really solid defensive squad last year, and by solid, I mean elite. This year, if Shump comes back even 80%, its going to be 90s Knicks all over again on defense..

Not really. The league as a whole sucked on offense last year.

That's pretty stupid logic. If that were true, plenty of teams would've been better than the Knicks on defense, regardless.

As a Knicks fan, I couldn't agree more

Made one of the riskier moves in the offseason
Full training camp for Stat/Melo
Going into the season fully healthy besides Shumpert[but Brewer is there to take his role for now]
Got many vets for this team
In a "win now" mode

If this team loses in the first round again it's over in terms of the Carmelo/Amar'e experiment

Not saying I'm pro/con blowing it up, but it's tough to blow up a team that doesn't have their 2014 or 2016 pick, cause the pick is half the point in blowing up a team.

Good point, but if Carmelo/Stoudemire don't make the second round this year, I could see the Knicks FO going all out[shopping Carmelo, either shopping or amnestying Stoudemire] in terms of blowing it up

We don't have an amnesty and "shopping" stat really means leaving him on someone's doorstep and running away.

Get Stern to veto Billups amnesty

Seriously though, my opinion on that amnesty changes by the day. It's still a wrong move to me, but at the same time we got Chandler out of it. Then again, I would've rather used it on Stoudemire and been left with Billups[he put up great numbers even though he hated playing in New York, and was only "mad" at the team once he got amnestied]-Fields-Carmelo-Anyone-Chandler last season. I don't doubt Chandler wouldn't have came without Amar'e

And if we shopped Stoudemire and gave him up for a few picks/got undervalued for him, I wouldn't be mad in the slightest because that would mean he likely would've had an off year again and been injured as well. I give Stat the benefit of the doubt for his off season, but if he does it two years in a row I can't see me rooting for him much longer.

I just want to say that I think I finally see the direction this team is going and I like it!

They are going all in on defense. The Knicks might be the best defensive team in the league and that's no hyperbole. I think if Knicks' fans of current day went back in time to tell Knicks' fans of last year this, they would have laughed themselves hysterically to death (thereby possibly violating the space time continuum and creating a Brooklyn-Hole).

Amazing the difference a year makes.

It would be great if they could trade Stat.

His contract is up in 2 years, any chance to trade him will be next year. But I would not be suprised Amar'e bounces back strong this season. He likes reading twidder & the web, it might light a fire under him.

Even with Brewer, Camby and the DPOY the Knicks will still be labeled a team that doesn't play any defense. Only the haters could hate this move. Great pickup. When Shump comes back the perimeter defense is going to be incredible.

I expect the same. Last season was crazy for Amare. The added weight, the death of his brother, and trying to fit in on the team all took its toll. He's already in shape and looking to improve his post game. Hopefully a less condensed season and a full training camp help him find a role with the starting unit.

Excited for once to see the direction of this team. It was tough letting Lin go but it was a strictly business kinda thing. Nice stuff from the 'Bockers.

To be fair, the Knicks' defense was pretty good last year too. Tyson really changed the culture. Go back to the year before last and then I'd think you were crazy.

its not a hyperbole, its just an incorrect statement IMO. I'm sorry, but as long as Amare Stoudemire is getting close to 35 mpg on a team, said team will not be the BEST in the league at defense. Carmelo will never be a defensive juggernaut either. With that said, I think they do in fact have a very good defense and it will be a dramatic change from 2, or even a year ago. But no, I'll bet my life they won't have the number one defense in the league.
