I have not been to Milwaukee, but I hear they have a river and a lake...as well as good beer and cheese.

Well I guess I'm going to Austin. The amount of people saying it's a lot better than Dallas makes I an easy call, the only game I would have gotten in Dallas is Raps/Mavs so no big deal to miss it.

Milwaukee sounds good, it seems to have a bad rap as far as a fun spot compared to some of the bigger cities but I'm really looking forward to it.

You could really do Vegas in three days. Four days is the absolute max for a Vegas stay, in my mind. It all just starts to blend together after awhile and bleed a ton from your wallet.

And one part of the trip that isn't getting much play on here...you'll love New Orleans.

Yeah really looking forward to New Orleans, especially now I'm going after NY and get to see the Bucks / Hornets game. We've booked a sweet apartment on the LES in NY and get to check out new Barclays Center in Brooklyn so can't wait.

I hear what you're saying about Vegas, would it be worth spending the extra day in San Fran instead of Vegas? I do love my gambling and have been excited for LV for a long time...

Out of curiosity, how much money do you have saved up for this adventure? Vegas alone can ruin you financially in one night alone, talking from experience. :(

It's worth it though.

Have never been to San Fran, but there is a significant burnout factor in Las Vegas that is underestimated by first time visitors. You realize there is in fact a limit to how much gambling and walking up and down the Strip you can do. I do recommend checking out downtown Vegas, though. Cheaper gambling, less crowded than the Strip.

I plan to have about $12,000US with my flights and some tickets / accommodation payed for. I like my gambling but I'm smart with it, not going to lose a couple grand in Vegas or anything

I'd do the extra day in Frisco. Vegas can be supremely dissapointing, you may find yourself thinking "oh, awesome- it's just like a bigger Surfer's Paradise, but with no beach... and the bogans are a little chubbier..."

The key is to get out of Vegas and break up the gambling. Go see the Hoover Dam, helicopter to the Grand Canyon and climb Angles Landing at Zion National Park.

Being a younger guy my guess is you'll like Vegas more than San Francisco.

If it was me I'd land in San Francisco, drive the coast to LA, then over to Vegas and then loop back up through Death Valley, Sequoia National Park and Yosemite on the way back to San Francisco. You save yourself a flight and because you are returning the rental car to the place you started you save on the as well. I did this loop and it was incredible. I guess it depends what you like. Would you rather sit in a bar/casino or climb a 5 mile trail up a mountain and hike among the redwood trees.

I've never been to California nor Texas, so can't offer much there. I've heard awesome things about San Diego and San Francisco, but I believe SF can be really expensive.

I went to Vegas once about 5 years ago with 3 college buddies, was 24 at the time. It was fun but I would agree that it all blurred together after awhile. We went 3 nights and it was a good experience but I haven't felt the need to rush back. I really liked the downtown area more than the Strip actually. It had more of a laid back, rugged feel than the trendy strip. And yes it can get expensive real quick if you start gambling alot. I got hammered every night but nothing too crazy either. If I never got back there it wouldn't be the end of the world.

We went to New Orleans just under 2 years ago, my wife and I. Very cool experience, but Jared Allen wasn't far off when he said its like a third world country there. Its a crap hole. We hit up alot of different things there from Bourbon Street, Superdome, Riverboat, City Tour, Swamp tour, etc. All was awesome. I did feel the need to really watch your back there. It seems like a really shady place at times. We ended up liking Decatur Street more than Bourbon Street as it had a similar feel with less people and cheaper drinks. Our hotel (Holiday Inn - Superdome) would be excellent if you want to go to a Hornets game, its not that far from either sports facility. You aren't really walking distance from the French Quarter though, there is a shuttle service however. We both would go back, but only with another couple next time. NEVER would live there, even though I love the food there. Pat O'Brien's jumbalaya!

I've heard that a few times about New Orleans actually. My friend who went there last year said it's a great place to party but you just be careful where you go, and bourbon st was a little overrated. Supposed to be some really cool streets just nearby though, looking forward to checking it out. Won't be too many people at the Horneta game with a Tobias Harris jersey either :D

The trip sounds great. I know most posters are saying to basically ignore Milwaukee, but if you're a Bucks fan, I guess that means you would want to connect even more to the team by spending some time outside the Bradley Center and getting to feel the beat of Milwaukee just a little.

If you're into live music, whether punk, indie or hip hop, spend some time at one or a few of the following places:

Cactus Club in Bayview
Stonefly in Riverwest
Madplanet in Riverwest

Very good microbeers at all these places, too. A tour of Sprecher, the Pabst area or the Miller Brewery will smell good as well.

Whenever I travel, I make sure I take a 3-4 hour walk to meet a city at my own pace. Lakefront and Eastside is an obvious choice.
Austin is a blast, too. Enjoy the games and I concur with AussieBuck: the accent will help you with the Laverne and Shirleys.

He's going in November. Might already have snow in both these places to do proper hiking without a lot of cold weather gear, not to mention long travel times and snow issues in the mountains.

I feel the need to stand up for my favorite city in the USA. New Orleans is amazing. I've been there 5 times in the last 7 years. 3 times for work, and twice for bachelor parties (including my own :D ) The key is to get the F off Bourbon Street. If you stay on Bourbon for more than one night, you're going to have that "hot garbage"smell in the back of your nose and throat for the rest of the trip.

But New Orleans has so much more to offer. Frenchman Street is one of the most entertaining districts I've been to in the world. Live music for blocks. Well run clubs. Talented musicians. Brass bands playing on the streets. My favorite club was Maison. There were 4 live music stages set up. Salsa on the top floor, hip hop on the 2nd floor, jazz band on the south side of the first floor, and a folksy duo on the north end. They were all brilliant, all unique, and the atmosphere was top notch. Also, the area by Tulane's campus is a beautiful part of New Orleans. Its a 15 minute trolley ride from Bourbon. The best restaurant we ate at was Jaques Imo's. Phenomenal. Make sure to hit Snake and Jakes X-mas Lounge for a couple (right down the street from Jaques Imo's). One more thing... Oysters at Drago's. Thank me later.
