Well, it's no secret that a lot of Euro teams and coaches emphasize loyalty to senior players above rookies. So I'm sure that's playing a part in his not being able to play meaningful amounts of minutes. Also, he's still sorta foul prone, which I guess would happen for a young big who's playing against tougher competition.

there's probably a reason why the coach hates the kid if that is the case. Don't blame the coach, blame the player.

There might be a reason but is the reason fair or justified? If it is a bad reason, then it is fair to blame the coach.

it's probably due to laziness, poor practice performance or attitude. To think a coach would not utilize a player that is highly talented and giving it his all is ludicrous.

Raptor fans are prone to bias, but just watch the France LTU game and you will see that Val is no worse than any any other player on the floor up until the point where he is assessed a phantom foul. He is yanked and screamed at by the coach. This after one of his guards already has three fouls and nothing is said to him. After this is over, I don't see Val playing for this coach again.

You would think so, but cue up the FRA LTU game and judge for yourself. ctvolympics.ca

European teams often do go deeper with their roster and more balanced minutes for everybody so that does play a role.

Ultimately if the guy was producing he'd play more, but he's not.

At the time of the draft Valanciunas was pretty consistently regarded as a project. Somehow over the last year an inaccurate perception has grown suggesting he's ready now. He's not. He's still a very good prospect, he's just still a project.

So far it looks like very few, if any, of the people that have responded in this thread have watched any of the games. Some strong opinions, though...

He's just another in a long list of Raps prospects who have been severly overhyped. He is a project. He's tall and long but fairly limited skill wise and isn't a good defender. He could be a bigger version of Joakim Noah or he could go the way of Andrins Biendrins. I doubt that he is ever in the discussion for top 3 center and he's not a better prospect than Anthony Davis, although the Raps board says otherwise.

^^Nobody on the Raptors board says he's better than Davis (maybe a 1/1000). And most of us predict him to be a Noah/Chandler type player. You have no idea wtf you're talking about.

It's kind of stupid to pull out three quotes and generalize the biggest fan base on the board. It would be like me looking at your post and saying that all Pistons' fans are stupid.

That's not true.

Speaking of comparisons, hes got a wider frame than Biedrins (and Noah), he's got a much better "touch" than Biedrins and, unlike Biedrins, he can hit some mid range shots and is a very good FT shooter.
Regarding his defense, Jonas commits some mistakes, mainly for being overagressive and trying to help too much, which is not a bad thing for a young developing center.
He just needs to bulk up a bit and gain exerience to be one of the best centers in the league, he's as much of a sure bet as anyone picked in the last 2 drafts.
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

I found this thread on the 1st page of the Raps board. It seems a lot of Raps posters dont understand why Davis is a more highly ranked player than Jonas V. And, I never said that all Raps fans feel this way but it certainly not a single homer poster.

Basically 95% of the posters in that thread are saying that the Val hype needs to stop and that Davis is better.

Coach prefers to play his veterans. Even on his club team he was getting limited minutes constantly, despite being the best player on the court. He's also having foul problems that he'll have to overcome.

Seems like most of the posters are disagreeing with that sentiment. So you've found 4 out of 300,000 Raptor fans who feel that way. I guess you have a deranged sense of what "a lot" is.

if his national coach doesn't trust him, what more NBA coaches.

i have an eye for busts, he certainly looks like one.
