He is just saving himself for the NBA, obviously.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

I was actually referring to his coach's trust.

and btw those numerous fouls are not a good sign.

i may have exaggerated my 'eye for busts'. i don't really have to watch them 24x7. a quick look and somehow I ace it. lucky guess? from Darko to Yi, and from Ammo to Jimmer and Favors.

you can't trust these euro coaches. they never play young dudes. brandon jennings in rome was playing scrub minutes behind some dude that had a few decent years at upenn!! ricky rubio played more in the nba than at barça.

I like how mostly people who talk watched like game of him. Anyone who watched last year in Euro championships saw how 19 years old was schooling Kaman, Krstic, Ibaka, Gasols, Noah on offence. Few years untill he gains muscles and expierence and will be one of top 5 center in prime.

FWIW, not a year ago he was great at the Euro champs, actually looked like Lithuania's best player despite coming off the bench. I haven't seen any Lithuania game in London so far but, judging from the boxscores, it seems like he's sucking because he fouls a lot. I don't think his skillset has regressed in the span of 10 month to the point he's now a 10mpg player.

Rubio also never averaged more than 25 minutes a game playing in Europe and averaged about 6/3/3 on a shooting percentage that hovered around .300, and look how he's turning out.

Point is. With young players in Europe, it's difficult to tell how they'll turn out, and usually stats are not an adequate indicator of their abilities. Neither are minute distributions (see Jennings and Rubio too). So, yeah, to call Valanciunas a bust based on 3 games at the olympics (after he's already played 60-something games across various tournaments in Europe this past season), is no reason to doubt his abilities.

i remember he was shooting an insanely high free throw percentage before. That to me shows that he is a skilled player and he works on his game. Not to mention his projected stats are really high, he's being misused by the Lith. coach and he might be fatigued.

Well I guess since NOBODY nailed the right reason for his subpar production, I'll go ahead and tell you since I actually watch Valanciunas, unlike 99% of the people in this thread.

He's exhausted. He hasn't had a break in well over a year. He's been playing basketball non-stop. Training, basketball, what have you. It's actually coming to a point where it's concerning because if he doesn't get a good month's rest soon he will be prone to injury, very likely.

You think Favors is a bust?

I think he may prove you wrong... very wrong.

I've wondered the same thing. It's not like Lithuania is as good as they historically are. Why not give the young guy with clearly the most potential and athleticism some burn?

He is being overhyped, but he's a project center. He's 20 years old, isn't strong enough yet, so he's picking up fouls. Add on to the fact that a lot of times the opposing team is playing small ball and, bam, he's not getting playing time.

I still see a 7'0 center with long arms, runs the floor really well, has great hands, a good touch, a great motor and shoots 80% from the line. So it's pretty obvious why Raptor fans are excited to see what he can do.

Comparing him to Anthony Davis is ridiculous. Davis is a franchise player, JV's ceiling is a good center.

he prioritized other stuff than the Olympics? and what about the tired nba players coming from a shortened season? he's not at par to them? if that is his actual excuse then it's even worse then.

Its his 4th summer playing for Lithuania. Last summer he played for two Lithuania's team national and junior in one summer...This summer he got less than one week to rest and went to national team camp and Olympics qualifications. He is energy big so he gives everything on court - always moving so ofcourse he needs to recharge his batteries.

Mozgov is struggling with fouls, too, but Blatt just lets him foul out. The result is he dominated Brazil's front court (with three solid NBA players in Splitter, Varajao and Nene) and helped Russia. Not really sure why the Lithuanian coach has such a tight leash on all his players. Pocius was their best player against France and he only played 16 minutes.

I've watched the team for the past three months and they've looked pretty weak and disorganized, and that was with Javtokas. Whatever the issues are, it goes beyond just fouls and poor PnR defense. He fouled a lot at the ECs and he was still given opportunities to play his game.
