Not sure I agree with this entirely, but there's probably a grain of truth.

I don't like +/- that much, and I certainly don't like +/- in a 3 game sample size. The only thing that has concerned me is the fouls.

Is there anywhere we can find the +/- for the whole team? They've been shelled in two of their three games.

That is an interesting thought, although it would be highly deceptive of the author to use statistics like that unless he was a lot lower than the rest of the team on +/-
I'd like to see it as well, but he's probably doing worse in that category. The problem I have is that +/-, in order to be relevant, requires a big sample size, because it's not an individual stat.

Re: Jonas Valanciunas Summer Discussion II
I just watched when Jonas got his second foul (for those who don't know you can rewatch all the games on ctv's olympic website) and it was a complete phantom foul. Watching Kemzura he gave Jonas an earful stared him down, while marching towards him. In the replay even Klieza couldn't believe the call. Jonas also looked sluggish to me. He was giving that energy that I usually see from him. I guess the past 4 years of international play with no rest have started to take their toll on him.

You guys think Casey is going to take it easy on the kid if he doesn't perform or learn? Look at how Casey treated Demar and Davis this year, when they F***ked up.
NBA is going to be a lot harder for this kid, he won't get more than 10 minutes a game. Not sure why people are so surprised at his low minutes.

DeMar played 35 minutes/game last year, which was a career high. Davis played about a minute less than the previous year under "what the **** you gonna do?" Triano-ball. Casey will give JV more than 10 minutes a game.

Wow. You're definitely right on the money here, Casey is going to intentionally stunt his development.
That's good coaching.

The France game had nothing to do with foul trouble. Anyone who watched that game knows Jonas only deserved one foul and the second one (the phantom foul) was the one his coach yelled at him for. It made no sense and I saw other players taking stupid fouls throughout the game. As for the other games, I'm not so sure.
And to the poster who spoke about Casey being tough on him- I expect Casey to be much more reasonable. I don't think anyone is saying Jonas shouldn't have a coach be tough on him, but Kemzura screaming at him and benching him for the rest of the game for no reason is just stupid.
Also, are +/- useful when you only play a couple minutes at a time? Especially like in the France game where Jonas was put back in the game for only 2 minutes in the third quarter. How are you supposed to get effectively in the game with such a small amount of time on the floor?

Isn't it obvious? they are saving him as a secret weapon till knockout rounds. Anyone and their pet dogs could have predicted that Nigeria and the other African team weren't gonna make it. They planned this so they wouldn't have to face the goat team, USA, until the gold medal game. Instead of caring about these poverty preliminary teams, they are looking ahead preparing for real ones. If everything goes as planned, they should face Spain first. Spains biggest strength is their size so why not make Jonas look inferior so they go easy then BOOM the Boy CHOO CHOO Val runs a train on them and shocks the world.

+/- stat is non credible, author himself mentioned Jonas' on court stretches are few minutes long...
Coach has some problem with him, Jonas does something wrong, and coach hates it. Its not even the fouls. It cant be fouls, it makes no. he never committed more than 3 fouls anyway. It would make much more sense just to ignore his fouls and let him play anyway, even if he fouls out, he would most likely play much more than ~13 minutes. Obviously coach does not ''saving'', since Jonas did not play in crunch minutes
I can't f'ing believe people frame Jonas... Whatever he does wrong there, it is nearly as bad as coaching job. Coach could bench JV if he had alternatives. But he simply does not. Alternative bigs are easily inferior, they aren't upgrade, by no means...
I think third quarter 1:57 sub proved how irrational coach is. That sub cant be explained. IT cant, imagine you are on coaches side, now try to justify that sub... Coach was so irrational, he literally gave up on that game just to taught 20 year old a lesson, of some sort. And what exactly Jonas is doing wrong? I thought he was pretty good. Even experts can't tell exactly why Jonas is not playing, we all just assume he is doing something wrong...
I can't believe this coaching job and that sub in particular is being overlooked.
Jonas was pissed. Noticed it? He really was, coach was going apes**t on him when he was subbed for the first time, Jonas passed by with his head down, totally ignored the coach. It was really depressing.

Re: Jonas Valanciunas Summer Discussion II
I almost guarantee the plus minus stat has something to do with his playing time, credible or not. Johnny ChooChoo gets subbed in makes some silly mistakes, picks up some fouls, other team is on a nice run...he doesn't get back in the game. Same scenario except lithuania is on a run, he plays more.

Let's playin for 9th!

Seems to be a lot of small ball being played at these olympics. Might explain some of his issues currently. Im not concerned. It was to be expected that his first major hurdle would be controlling his fouls. Coming off the bench for the raps, this shouldnt be a concern for us at all.
