I respectfully disagree, our 2013 picks alone are better than the whole package you got.

MagicTownBaller wrote:Ya know, I was pretty upset about the Dwight Howard trade earlier. I was thinking that "Hennigan is outta his mind!" and "He turned our team into a joke." But, then I was thinking about another team that was pretty similar and was considered a joke of a franchise. Do you know who that other team was? The Seattle Sonics.

Then, I looked up Sam Presti's introductory press conference, where he got introduced as the new general manager of the Seattle Sonics, and everything he said sounded so familiar. I couldn't put my finger on it until I re-watched Hennigan's introductory press conference also. Rob Hennigan says and does everything just like Sam Presti!

In each of their press conferences, they talked about getting better incrementally, talked about wanting to change the culture (I don't know if Presti used the word culture though), talked about wanting to be a professional team, talked about wanting players who WANT to be there. Both were also hired at age 30.

Also, if you look at their transaction history, they're very similar also.

Rob Hennigan
Signed & Traded Power Forward Ryan Anderson to the New Orleans Hornets for Gustavo Ayon

Sam Presti
Signed & Traded Forward Rashard Lewis to the Orlando Magic for a future second round pick

Ron Hennigan
Traded our STAR Dwight Howard, Chris Duhon, Jason Richardson, and Earl Clark for Moe Harkless (Rookie), Arron Afflalo, Nikola Vucevic, Al Harrington, Josh McRoberts, Christian Eyenga, and 5 draft picks (3 first rounders and 2 second rounders) to form another super team in Los Angeles

Sam Presti
Traded the Sonic's STAR Ray Allen and a second round pick (Glen Davis) to the Boston Celtics to form a super team for a first round pick (Jeff Green) and Delonte West.

Rob Hennigan
Hired San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Jacque Vaughn as the head coach of the Orlando Magic

Sam Presti
Hired San Antonio Spurs assistant coach P.J. Carlesimo as the head coach of the Seattle Sonics

Do you see the pattern yet? Both are planning for the future. They are both consummate professionals and Hennigan will prove that soon enough. The thing that's funny is, that's only Sam Presti's first year, and he kept making a good decision after good decision that led to the Thunder eventually being as good as they are today.

Point is, I'm a Magic fan until I die and I'm going to be sticking it out and root for my team and be excited about them every time I watch them. I'm going to trust Hennigan and I'm going to trust the process that he is using to build our team. Eventually, we will be a good team again, it may take time, but we will be a good team and a championship contender.

For anyone that wants to watch the Sam Presti press conference, here it is.

Hey man, thanks so much for this and the research.

Just watched the Press Conferences from the hire of Sam Presti and it is spooki how similar the talk and mannerisms are between Sam and Rob. Amazingly similar. Definitely have the same principles, thoughts, processes and values. I mean, Look at this press conference and then watch Rob's and it is spooky.

Also on your evidence of the way they conducted blowing up teams, as I said, same principles and processes. They are structured guys that are process driven and won't steer of what they believe. I had so much confidence in what Rob's vision was, I now have no doubt. The similarities are amazingly close.

Same here.
Live in LA.
Actually wore a Magic cap to get a coffee.
No one said anything.
But two separate people gave me a look, and then a pity head shake as if to say, "I'm sorry."

That's how bad it is. They can't even bring themselves to gloat.

Some "reporter" for the Sentinel just said on the news that it might take 10 years for the Magic to contend again.

How in the name of journalism do you make such an ignorant statement like that? She was like "It's going to take like...ahhh.....at least....ahhh" and i was expecting her to say 5 years (with which I would've been like "ugh...more like at least 3") and she says 10.

-_-

I would expect journalist to know wtf they are talking about. There's no deal ANY team could EVER make that would make them a noncontender for "at least 10 years". NONE.

edit: her name was Shannon Crews btw. never heard of her

you don't think these picks are better than the ones you got?
2013 Cavs first (could easily be in the lotto)
2013 Miami first
2015 Cavs first
two 2013 2nd's

you won't even see one of the picks for 5 years and they are all protected.

10 years? with several lottery picks, additional 1st round picks, multiple assets, and $30mil in cap space, we can be right back in the playoffs in a couple years and ready to do some damage

As Stein and several others have reported, the Magic were looking for young, cheap assets in any potential deal, making any Chicago proposal a tough sell. Given the untouchable status of former MVP Derrick Rose and the difficult-to-move three remaining years on Carlos Boozer's contract, any potential deal involving the Bulls and Magic would have included a combination of Joakim Noah, Luol Deng, Taj Gibson, Nikola Mirotic and draft picks, including the Charlotte Bobcats first-round pick, acquired in the Tyrus Thomas deal.

While it's unclear how far, if at all, the talks progressed under Hennigan, what is clear is that Noah and Deng don't fall into the younger, cheaper assets category. The pair is on the books for nearly $75 million over the next four years (two for Deng, four for Noah). Couple that with the fact that both players are dealing with ongoing injury problems -- Noah has dealt with ankle problems for the past few seasons and still isn't 100 percent after badly rolling his ankle in the playoffs, and Deng has a torn ligament in his wrist and may need surgery -- and it's understandable why Hennigan and the Magic went in another direction.

AV + Those picks are not better than what we got. Comparing only the picks is completely asinine considering those weren't the only things being traded.

Looking at this team, next year is going to be Bobcats level bad. Which is a good thing.

Can you guys stop writing "get over it" posts.
Seriously?
It's the same ***** day as the trade!!

And it's being called by everyone nationally as one of the worst trades they've ever seen. The only people defending this trade are Orlando fans who are blinded by homerism and wishful thinking.

If we're not going to vent over this, then what can we ever vent on?
There are thousands of posts dedicated to Duhon's minutes.
This doesn't merit more???

Yeah I forgot affalo and harington. Varejao could easily be flipped for another pick to a team like boston BTW.
