I realize that some expect far more since he's likely to be the best Canadian since Nash but let's be real. If Rudy Gay WAS Canadian he'd be the best since Nash too. Even if he's "only" A Rudy Gay quality SF he'll still be amazing for our National Team and a ton of fun to cheer on in the NBA, especially since he's not just Canadian. He's from the GTA. However, the Bron/Kobe/Durant hype that some have thrown around is too much. I expect a slightly better Rudy Gay. Anything more than that will be incredible.
Uhm you act as if Canada is the only one hyping, like people are qualifying his prospect value as the best Canadian ever. Rudy Gay was never at any point the best player in high school basketball, let alone the best player at 17, people have said if the a draft was held of all the available prospects now he would go number 1.
Rudy Gay is a 6-9 sf with limited ball handling skills, and a very good jump shot, none of this resembles what andrew wiggins is or what his potential holds, Rudy is significantly longer, the only resemblance is athleticism.
If he only ended up being rudy gay then we all should be disappointed, given his physical tools and the rate of development he has shown in high school, we are looking at a once in a generation type prospect, there is a long way to go between now and reaching his ceiling and a lot can go wrong but saying his full potential is rudy gay is just silly and overly cynical.
I don't see rudy gay projection as silly or cynical, he said "efficient" rudy gay, basically a rudy gay 2.0. Btw, Rudy has a pretty good ball handling skill too. Also you're over-glorify Wiggins calling him "once in a generation"? I say once in 6-7 years talent type because the last one seen was Durant.
im not over glorifying him, compare his development, to where Rudy was in high school he had very little to no handle to speak of, coming out of college, go look back at whatever scouting reports there were, you will see the same thing, limited handle, lacks go too scoring moves. Rudy handle now is simply average, despite his off the charts physical tools he struggles to get into the lane, hence why still can't muster more than 4 fta per game.
Even compare his rate of development to Durant, who at 17 for all his offensive abilities his defense lagged way behind his offense.
Hve you been watching this kid? like really watching his development, the rate of improvement has been rapid, the peach jam in close game he even showed off some crafty back to the basket moves.
Dude if all he is a more efficient rudy gay, then we should all be VERY disappointed and ask ourselves what went wrong.
