I realize that no one is paying attention, but...

...Cris Sale gave the Sox exactly what they needed today. Great performance.

Sale is a BEAST. What an arm. He's over a strikeout per inning as a starter, nasty stuff.

Peavy and Dunn have been the comeback players of the year. I never expected the Sox to be doing as well as they have so far. Sale, Viciedo, and De Aza have been impressive as well.

On this edition of Midway Baseball Today, Mac and Pat welcome in Mark Gonzales, Chicago White Sox beat writer for the Chicago Tribune to discuss the Kevin Youkilis trade. They talk about the recent offensive struggles, the surprising stretch by Jose Quintana and Robin Ventura’s handling of the pitching staff. Later they get Cubs fans ready for the debut of number one prospect Anthony Rizzo.

Rizzo had a good debut with the Cubs. I'm interested to see if he can live up to all the hype. Looks to be bright spot on a crappy Cubs season.

Glad we swept the Twinkies but damn did we stink in Detroit. We can't have that happening. Now we go into Texas where it is going to be a tough road to get even 2 of 3. But it can be done! 3 in a row....don't stop now boys!!

Great way to get game 1 off of the Rangers. I was afraid Darvish would just mow us down. But we battled him and got somethings to go our way.

How about that stolen base by Dunn? I was cracking up watching him lumber down the base path.

Just get through this series in Texas with hopefully 2 out of 3 and then things get easier. One last road series in Minnesota then two much needed home series.

As the Sox prepare to take on the Royals, they just have to focus on keeping their recent success going. After some close games against the Angels, the Sox are looking to maintain their lead over the Tigers in the AL Central. As they do that, hot hitters A.J. Pierzynski and Kevin Youkilis hope to continue their home run hot streaks. Read my series preview here:

There are obviously many components to winning the division, and it seems the Sox may have most if not all of them. From acquiring a few key players, to having solid starting pitching, it looks like the Sox could win the AL Central. Read more reasons why the Sox are in contention here:

An unlikely injury right when we don't need it. We need Konerko back healthy ASAP.

Adam Dunn hit a pair of home runs on Monday night, giving him the American League lead in the category this season.

Dunn has hit 33 home runs. He has just 84 hits this season, giving him a percentage of hits going for home runs of 39.29.

That rate is the highest in the Majors this season and would qualify for the fifth-highest of all-time. Barry Bonds had a percentage of 46.79 in 2001.

Looking to split the series with the O's and then the big challenge comes- on the road in Detroit. Huge series.

White Sox general manager Kenny Williams did his part. With Chris Sale and Jake Peavy anchoring the White Sox pitching staff, and Jose Quintana pitching as a solid number three, Williams decided to go out and acquire Fransisco Liriano from the Minnesota Twins in an attempt to help bolster a rotation that was strong on top and a question mark at best on the bottom. That question mark is now Gavin Floyd. He will need come back from the DL better than ever to compete in the playoffs.

Mid of 7th and Sox are losing to Detroit on Sept 11.
Score 3-2.

Hopefully we can find some offense and put some runs on the board to take this thing.

Sox gotta muster a better performance than they did their last outing.

Umps made the KC pitchers look like Nolan Ryan.

Very disappointing, but the Sox far exceeded expectations this year. We cracked under the pressure and played our worst baseball at the worst time.
