He actually said "for hopefully the next 9 months". Sounds like an invite to training camp...

Still have two spots open.
I wouldn't be surprised if Pittman gets the Eddie House treatment.

re-watched the third game in the knicks-series where he had some solid minutes the other day. a bit slow footed but a decent presence around the basket. I guess it comes down to how far he is from making proper heat rotations on defense vs. to what extent he can give us a couple of stretch baskets on offense.

I hope we extend Birdman and invite. I also hope to see Harris back.
Like Time4War said, I would not be surprised to see Pittman get cut like House after camp ends.

Ira said that the next 2weeks will be a pre training camp for all of the players who are trying to get a invite to the official training camp.
Feels like some type of game show competition.

Wasn't it implied that Harrellson was somewhat out of shape last time he worked out for us? My guess is we liked his shooting and basketball skills but told him to get in better shape and this second workout is to see if he listened. Hopefully, he sticks this time.

Wouldn't be for Harrelson

I could see Pittman waived in lieu of Harrellson. Despite his inferior height/length, he has a better motor, can shoot, and rebounds better. On the other hand, I don't see why it would be necessary and think it would make worlds more sense to cut JJ.
As Chalm said, indications are the Heat liked his workout but wanted him to drop some elbies. He committed to two-a-days following the workout, and likely has been working hard to improve his conditioning. This should improve his footspeed somewhat.

Spoelstra says Heat will play even faster in 2012-13
By Ira Winderman | South Florida Sun Sentinel
6:04 p.m. EDT, September 4, 2012
MIAMI—Erik Spoelstra successfully revved up the Miami Heat's offense. He said Tuesday you haven't seen anything yet.
After the Heat played at a faster pace in their championship run than in previous seasons, going from 21st in the NBA in pace to 14th in 2011-12, Spoelstra said on the debut of the Jorge Sedano Show on WQAM that he is hopeful of pushing the tempo further this coming season.
"I hope to play faster," he said. "We turned it up a gear last year and I think we have the personnel to hopefully go even faster. And I think with a normal training camp and a full season, we can build that habit a little bit more."
The Heat's move to more of a transition game came in the wake of an NBA lockout that cancelled the team's summer program and curtailed the preseason.
A faster tempo in 2012-13 also would allow the Heat to maximize the contribution of Ray Allen, the team's prime free-agent offseason addition.
"He's a Hall of Fame-type catch-and-shoot player," Spoelstra said. "We haven't had that element before in our offense. So it's been a lot of fun, trying to X-and-O and come up with new ways to get him open. I don't want to overthink it. I don't want to totally change what we do, but that's a great element to have, that type of weapon."

We were only the 14th fastest team? Weird. I feel like we should be in the top 10 with the athletes we have

I don't have any stats to base this off of, but I think if you did look at stats, our pace would've dropped considerably after the ASB. We were flying before the ASB and then seemed to get complacent and slow down.

You're right. We were leading the league in pace until somewhere around then. We must've dropped considerably to wind up 14th.
Wade is on Leno right now. He looks like he may've lost weight, instead of putting on after the surgery. Great news considering it was his weight that hurt his comeback last time.

Yeah it was a complete 180. I'm hoping more time to rest will allow us to fly a little bit more. Helps if Wade isn't injured. Man I'll never forget that opening night match against the Mavericks when everyone was just flying around everywhere. People on the GB were having fits and calling it a season already.

I think guys get tired. Everyone has fresh legs to start the season. It's tough to run the ball every possession, every game (especially in a lockout-shortened season).
That's why I'm not a big fan of running the ball 24/7; only when opportunities present themselves (which the Heat try to get their players to do when they get sloppy and start committing turnovers).
Also, the pace in the playoffs tend to slow down to a crawl, especially in the East. You need to be able to prove that you can run half-court sets and that's one of the areas the Heat really needed to work on.

Does this mean that we're not signing Birdman? Any news?

Birdman played up tempo in Denver, if that's what you're referring to.
You definitely have to have a solid half court game to contend. One of the best kept secrets in the NBA last year was that the Heat had the most efficient half court offense in the league for long periods (not sure how it ended up.)
Spo is aware there won't always be opportunities to run, but he wants the team taking every possible chance it gets. Its more of a mindset if anything: attack, attack, attack. Too often this team lulls itself into slow, iso-ball, or wait-12-seconds-for-the-screen-to-come-ball. We're best when we're constantly attacking and moving, even in the half court. Even post ups can be incorporated into a speedy attack.

Speaking of post ups, I asked heat.com's stat journalist Couper Moorhead about Rashard in the post, since I see it a lot in highlights.
First I asked him about his post game in Orlando
Then I asked who it could be comparable to, mentioning Battier, as he was a very effective post player in MEM and HOU before coming here
For those that aren't familiar with Dre's post game, its great. He's abused us there with Philly, Denver, and Portland. Very crafty and effective at drawing fouls, without being particularly strong or quick. In fact, I believe it was in this thread that I compared Shard in the post to him recently. Cool to see Coup use the same example based off of the numbers.
I think we'll see Rashard in the post here a lot more than people realize. I can also see him limiting the turn around, fadeaways that likely lower his percentage out of it, though he does make a lot of them.

@CoupNBA
He was usually good for a couple post-ups a game at around .9 points per possession. Was still OK with it in WAS.

Better than Shane, in the ORL days at least. Similar to Dre Miller. Not a super high FG%, but made up for it drawing fouls.

We'd be doing Chicago a favor by trading for Boozer.
