Bruce is being overrated here anyway. I could see the trepidation if my man had compared Jeff to Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, or even Crash. Bruce's defense would probably not even be remembered if he hadn't played with Robinson and Duncan. A superstar can make good role player great. Two superstars can make a role player look legendary.

I stated Bowen because he is the only player I could think of who was known as a good perimeter defender who could hit the 3 (albeit only the corner 3 for Bowen). I would have said Thabo with OKC but he's kinda inept on offense.

I think someone is severely underrating Bowen's defensive ability.
We would be damn lucky to have the Viking turn out like Bowen

Thank you.

I think you are missing the point. Oh course we would be lucky for, "Viking?" to be as good a Bowen. I was defending his potential to reach that level. Someone else was suggesting that as ridiculous. That is in no wise ridiculous. Bowen is one of the best defenders ever yes, but there is nor reason to say that Jeff has no chance of getting there as well. Offense is mostly about talent, and skill. Defense is mostly heart and determination.

“I need to make sure we don’t stretch him too much,” Dunlap said. “He is very diverse: He can shoot the three, he is an excellent in-space one-on-one defender and we’re also finding his penetration game is very good. He has great legs, so he gets to the rim.”
“He’s finding out the guys are bigger, longer, stronger” in the NBA, Dunlap added. “So we’ve got to develop a middle game for him.”
“I know I’m a defensive player and that I can spot up and make shots. So I’m just figuring it out where I can be most successful,” Taylor described. “The playbooks in the NBA are most extensive and defensive concepts and rotations are a big learning process. But I have an open mind and I’ve always been willing to be coached.”

MKG has company in this week's rookie ladder, which is entitled "Swedish sensation."
http://www.nba.com/rookie-ladder/
1. Lillard
2. MKG
3. Barnes
4. Singler
5. Davis
6. Jonas Val
7. Waiters
8. Alexey Schved
9. JT
10. Beal
Also, from his individual writeup.
http://www.nba.com/rookie-ladder/
Nov. 28 -- Before the season, if you'd told me a player from Vanderbilt would break out, I'd have said it would be sharpshooter John Jenkins, whom the Hawks took with the 23rd pick.
But the Bobcats may have found a steal from Vandy in the second round -- Jeff Taylor. Taylor, who grew up in Sweden where his father, Jeff, played for several years after a brief stint in the NBA, was taken 31st overall, but has quickly established himself in the Bobcats' lineup.
Taylor has started 11 of the 12 games and has been a big reason for Charlotte's success, thanks in large part to his defensive prowess.
Taylor has consistently been matched up with opposing team's star players and may be the Bobcats' best defender, which is saying something with fellow rookie Michael Kidd-Gilchrist on the floor.
But Taylor's not just doing it on defense. The 6-foot-7 swingman is averaging 11.8 points in his last five games while shooting 47 percent from the floor and 50 percent (8-for-16) from 3-point land, earning him a spot on the Ladder this week.
It's still early, but Taylor's making a solid case for top sleeper of this draft class.

I've had my eye on Taylor for a few weeks, thanks mostly to his impressive defense. But his recent string of double-digit scoring games shows Taylor is proving to be more than just a lock-down defender. The Swedish prospect via Vanderbilt has averaged 11.8 points in his last five games (all in double-digits) while shooting 47 percent from the floor and 50 percent (8-for-16) from 3-point land. If Taylor continues to get big minutes (30 mpg of late), he could see a big-time rise up the Ladder.

Re: Welcome to Charlotte Jeffery Taylor
In my opinion, this is a great example of how tanking alone won't lead you to drafting the best players. Some guys were a bit pissed off about us being that high in standings, saying that would hate us making the playoffs. In my opinion, it's more about the front office than the player you draft. If I had to put money on who would end up having the better career - either a top10 pick by Clippers or a late 1st rounder by the Spurs - I'd go with the Spurs guy without thinking.

I totally agree with this...unless that top 10 pick is Andrew Wiggins of course

This is awesome. Congrats, Jeff. Funny, I sent an email to Drew Peckham last week reading him the riot act for not including JT on the Ladder. Hopefully put a bug in his ear.

Of course we will. Players like Dudley and Jeff are trade sweetener. Sooner or later we will want someone really bad, and Jeff will be the player insisted upon as trade filler.

I don't think it would be crazy to think he might be a starter somewhere, someday. He can play both wing positions and is a two way player. Two way players always have a chance to see the starting lineup if they're patient and play consistent ball.

Damn! Two rookies in the top 5!
With all due respect to JT, I can probably think of about 10 rookies who have played as well as him so far. That's not a knock on him, but a statement of how many good rookies there are this season.
