Buck Showalter might as well have picked Jeff Suppan to pitch tonight because of "experience."

Lulz, lucky timeout call from the ump on a verbal call screws the Cards. Strike 3 should have been called as Ross swung and missed...next pitch was a 2-run bomb. Apparently he verbally called it but they played the pitch out.

I'd throw crap on the field too with a call like that. 50 feet into the outfield and it's called an infield fly.

Holy **** is that a horrible call. And a disgusting reaction to match it.

Ugh, just got home. What happened just now?

ETA: Just saw the replay. That is a terrible call.

Just read the rulebook on the infield fly rule. I'm ok with that. But what a bloody horrible call. And the base runners should be on 1st and 2nd.

Edit: Guess not then.

What does it mean when a game is under protest?

Found this -

4.19
PROTESTING GAMES.
Each league shall adopt rules governing procedure for protesting a game, when a manager claims that an umpire’s decision is in violation of these rules. No protest shall ever be permitted on judgment decisions by the umpire. In all protested games, the decision of the League President shall be final.

Even if it is held that the protested decision violated the rules, no replay of the game will be ordered unless in the opinion of the League President the violation adversely affected the protesting team’s chances of winning the game.

Rule 4.19 Comment: Whenever a manager protests a game because of alleged misapplication of the rules the protest will not be recognized unless the umpires are notified at the time the play under protest occurs and before the next pitch, play or attempted play. A protest arising on a game-ending play may be filed until 12 noon the following day with the league office.

All that matters. Infield fly = judgment call.

It's a judgment call to prevent infielders from intentionally letting a ball drop to get an easy double play but the infield sure as hell doesn't extend as far out as that infield fly call would sat.
