Making official what was reported as a done deal yesterday afternoon, the Red Sox just announced that Bobby Valentine has been fired as manager.

I can't imagine anyone is surprised.

Should be interesting to see who comes in to replace him. I honestly can't remember who was on the Sawx short list before he was hired.

In other news, experts have confirmed that the sun will indeed rise tomorrow.

It was down to Valentine and Gene Lamont.

I'm hoping for Dave Martinez, but I assume the Sox may give up a prospect to get John Farrell from the Jays.

I forgot how beloved John Farrell is in that organization. Should be interesting to see what the Sawx would give up to get him.

Valentine's exit came as no surprise.

It was a bad hire from the beginning.

Yeah I don't get the love for Farrell. I'm just hoping it's nothing more than a middle of the road prospect.

I just got an ESPN alert saying that the Sawx are interviewing Tony Pena for the job.

Really?

So, I've been reading all the rumors and whatnot about the deal, since Boston is beginning talks for Farrell. Supposedly the Jays want Buchholz and/or Bard for Farrell, but the Sawx may just be using it as leverage to get Brad Ausmus for less.

Well I can live with this move for the Sox. Mike Aviles is a nice utility guy, but they have a very similar player in Pedro Ciriaco already on the roster.

Will see if Farrell can learn from his mistakes in Toronto and get the Sox back to where they used to be.
