Lets hope and pray the bobcats dont make a similar mistake with hendo. thats stupid money for a mediocre shooting guard. they now have 59 mil between derozan and fields, plus they just spent the #8 pick on a shooting guard. what are the raptors doing?

If we can lock Hendo up with a 3 year, 20M extension right now, I say do it. Everyone's overpaying everybody now. If Derozan is worth 10M/year, what would a team with lots of cap space to burn offer Gerald? 10? 11? 12? There's really little question Henderson is the very least, as good as Derozan. We can't afford to lose ANOTHER lotto pick for nothing like we've done with Augustin, Felton, and pretty much every other pick we've ever made. If we can get him extended on a reasonable deal, then go for it now. Same with Mullens. He's an athletic 7-footer who drills threes. What is he going to get offered in this market?

10.5m per year for Derozan is a disgrace.

I'd give Hendo 5/30 right now, he is better than Derozan aswell imo.

I disagree. One of the reasons that we are so cap flexible right now is because we haven't resigned our mediorce previous picks to the contracts they wanted. Now we are in the position to get a real franchise player in one of the next two drafts, and sign a decent free agent. We would not be able to do any of that if Oak, Felton, Morrison, and DJ were still on the team with contracts that made them happy. If Hendo gets stupid with his demands trade him or let him walk. No big contracts for players who don't play big.

It's also the reason our team is **** terrible. I agree about trading him if his demands are very high, but I would risk slightly overpaying to keep him. If he's going to get a Derozan-like contract, then we might as well trade him. That's why I wanted him and Mully to get extensions NOW so they wouldn't even hit free agency.

I don't think we would be better off right now if we still had DJ Augustin, Adam Morrison, Raymond Felton, or any of our lotto picks though. That is more of a comment on how bad our drafts have been then anything else though.... Speaking of Hendo how much do you guys value him at? How bright do you guys think his future is? Is he going to be a 15ppg guy for the rest of his career? And if so is he worth shelling out $$ for?

Ideally, around $5-6M a year for Hendo. I'd match anything up to $8M, maybe more if he shows a lot of progress. I think eventually he'll be a 15ppg on a good team. As of right now he'd probably be a 6th or 7th man on a playoff team averaging 10-12ppg.

The complex part about deciphering how much you should pay a player like Hendo is that he's a average player playing at a dime a dozen position, shooting guard. If O.J. Mayo, Brandon Rush, Mike Dunleavy, Tony Allen, and Danny Green are making $4 million a year or less, no way does Hendo deserve a deal paying over $5 million annually, and even that's a stretch.

But he's going to look at the enormous deals given guys like Derozan and say, "Hey, I'm better than Derozan", which he is, and he'll want to get paid like Derozan.

OJ and Allen are big steals, Brandon Rush is also a steal, but Dunleavy and Green aren't Henderson caliber. They are getting paid just fine. Henderson is solid now and has potential to be more than that. I think we'd be very lucky to get him on any deal less than $6M a year.

exactly my thoughts. I wouldn't give Hendo more than 6 mil per year just because of the point I made previously - he's a shooting guard who can't make a three in a league ruled by long-range shooting. You can find plenty other guys to play the 2 position, if Hendo really does ask for something similar to Derozan's contract.

The wary part about locking Hendo down into a lengthy contract that may become difficult to get rid of is that his style of play doesn't really complement that of the 'Cats recent top 3 pick, MKG. With MKG being a slasher with limited range on a shaky jump shot, his best development would be alongside a SG that can really stretch the floor.

Can we get Ben Gordon to teach Gerald how to shoot? What were we doing all summer? Giving Henderson a consistent jump shot is all we absolutely need him to improve. It eventually came to Crash and we all remember how horrible a shooter he used to be. Why can't Henderson at least become decent from out there? He doesn't have Rondo's jumbo-sized hands and it's not like he's a lost cause from out there, he's already a pretty decent mid-range shooter.

You think if we held Hendo out of every game until he can hit 35% from downtown it would help us? We could tank, Hendo would be driven to get a consistent jumper (Ben Gordon as the teacher), and it would drive his market value into the ground for the 2013 offseason, making it inexpensive to keep him long term.

Yes I'm kidding.

I think.

henderson inability to improve his 3pt shooting in 4 years in the NBA is one of the great mysteries of the world:
1) who build the pyramids?
2) where is atlantis?
3) is the bermuda triangle responsible for plane crashes?
4) who shot JKF?
5) what happened at roswell new mexico?
6) where did amelia earhart crash?
7) is bigfoot real?
10) does loch ness really have a monster?
11) how was the universe created?
12) what happens when we die?
13) why can't gerald henderson improve his 3pt shooting?

Lebron reminds me of TrapJaw from Heman.
