Re: GAME THREAD: 11/9/12 Washington Wizards vs Milwaukee Buc
Vesely was awful today. So were crawford and Seraphin. Beal and Ariza played well. Singleton, Price and Booker played okay.
Relative to their skill levels, our guys played about average. They did not terribly underperform. The problem is that the current talent level on the team is terrible--as bad as the bobcats. We need to have multiple players play well above their ability to win a game against an average team, and we're not likely to win any against good teams.
I always thought we needed one more high lottery pick. If EG is canned, we get a high lotto pick, and the guys pick it up at the end, this will have been a great year. Or if Wall comes back and plays like a superstar and we fight for the playoffs, it will have been a great year. I think the former is far more likely.

Is anybody really confident this team can beat the Bobcats? I'm not sure.
Wizards could well be 0-10 by the time they get another shot at the Bobcats on their homecourt. None of the other games up until then strike me as being winnable.

I hope we go winless as well that will put a lot of pressure on Ernie, Knowing Ernie he will suck up to Ted and say the reason we are losing because are stars injured. What about are horrible supporting cast? Some of these guys on are team would barely make a good team rotation Ernie makes me sick soon as Ernie fired is when the wizards future becomes brighter.
As much as I hate Ernie as GM, this is Ted's fault. It's his fault for keeping him on so he could draft stiffs like Vesely andI I'm sure he pushed for the ArizaFor deal. I DVR'd the Maryland game and Wiz game and for some reason, watched the Wiz first. I saw a disinterested, casual group of players who didn't want to be out there. Save for Beal. I might boycott this team until Nene or Wall comes back. I've see so much bad basketball, I must just stick to watching college. That Maryland/KY game was an absolute blast. The Verizon Center must have been morgue-like tonight. Thanks Ted. You're actually making Abe seem like a decent owner.
As for Witt, I don't mind the Boston losses based on lack of talent and experience but when I saw that garbage effort tonight, lack of concentration, dropping passes, missing dunks, not getting back on D, not defending the 3. If that continues, he should be fired.

As much as I'd love that to happen, it's not going to. If Wall and Nene are healthy, this is team that's borderline competent. IF not, this is one of the worst five teams in the league. But lets be honest with ourselves. Since we've imploded there have been a handful of once in a generation potential players, Shaq, Webber, Kobe, etc. The Wizards have always been too good, or too stupid to ever be in range, or smart enough to land any of them, and the '13 draft is a weak one, with maybe two guys with franchise talent, and than a bunch of robins. I'd just be happy landing the kid from UNC. I want a top 5 pick. At this point I've already given up on the season because as cliche as it is, you are either contending, or you're nothing, and i'd rather get a guy like Mohammed, or Noel, or even the kid from UNC whose dad played, then get some complimentary, or role player. Does it really have to be fifty, rather than forty years before this team matters. I was born in late '74, and the Boulez/wizards have been irrelevant ever since i was in elementary school. It's beyond depressing at this point. Waitings fine, if the team has a clue. But it hasn't in nearly thirty years. Beyond frustrating. Why doesn't Ted have the same patience with the Wiz that he had w/the caps?????

Jennings is a little punk biatch.
Beal would eat him, he's a head taller and about 5 times wider.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Re: GAME THREAD: 11/9/12 Washington Wizards vs Milwaukee Buc
Thoughts Okafor, Ariza, and Beal played decently. If they were to play the exact same way when Wall and Nene are in the lineup, we'll have a solid starting 5. And Price seems like he'd be decent as a backup PG when he doesn't feel like he has to force his own offense.
The struggles of the other players have been mentioned already, but the most concerning for me is Booker. He's not finishing particularly well and is also picking up a lot of fouls. Where's the explosive GAM we came to love?

Completely agree. We move the ball, take open shots, and make decent-to-good rotations on defense. The problem is that our talent just isn't of the same caliber.

Ask yourself, why are other teams that also have key players injured, playing better and have more wins than the Wizards? Grunfeld doesn't know how to put a team together, he just an accountant and career politician.

Mark that down as yet another move the collective Wizboard would have made that Ernie failed to see (keeping Mack).

Booker got in one nice monster dunk and he had one nice move down the lane for a finger roll. Actually, he even hit one nice shot from the outside. He was 5-7. His problem in part was the 1 rebound in 27 minutes.
When the Wiz are healthy, I thought MIL would be the team they would be battling it out with, with MIL having the slight edge because of the experience of the team together, coach and the combo of their guards. Both team are deep without super stars.
So the fact that the Wiz were beaten by them without Wall, Nene and the bench not showing up is not surprising. Kevin is now going through some learning pains. We want him exposed to these things. Hopefully he adjusts quickly. Once he does, he will be a better player and we will have a better team as a result. Not having Nene right now is a blessing and a curse. Nene could step in and fill that hole. But without him, Kevin is getting exposed to this lesson now, which is good for down the road.
Other good news was that Trevor A, Okafor and the starting line up looked a lot better. And the really good news is that Beal looks to be adjusting quickly. Two bad games to start the year. Then a solid game next. Then a better game after that one. He even got in a two dunks this last game. Thats good progress given a really tough start.
So we had 3 games where the bench was getting it done and the starters didn't.
Now one game that the starters did, and the bench didn't.
Randy will clearly point that out and push on them to both show up on the same night. Lets hope that is tonight. Good time for a back to back. Get right back out there. Indy can be had. This is a winnable game. I think even more so then the MIL game.
My hopeful prediction is we win the next two. 2-4 Not great but not a deep hole. They have to keep it close until they can get Nene back out there.

I hope Ted doesn't fall into trap of giving Ernie a pass this year b/c Wall and Nene were injured. All he has to do is look around and see other teams without their best player(s) still able to pick up wins. You have DAL w/o Nowitzki, CHI w/o Rose, PHI w/Bynum, and the biggest surprise MIN w/o Love and Rubio leading their division at 4-1. So there really is no excuse for us being this bad. And unlike some on this board, I don't blame Ted for the bad draft picks and recent moves. That's a GM's job. Yes, Ted ultimately approved these recent moves that haven't panned out thus far, but I wouldn't go as far as saying he pushed for these specific moves. I haven't see any shred of evidence other than pure speculation that Ted was behind these moves. Ted's fault which I do hold him accountable for is making the decision to keep Ernie given his horrible track record as GM.

It probably works like this.
EG: "So, we can either buy-out Lewis now and save X $, then go into FA. Or, we can try and trade Lewis for other players = to what we owe Lewis...but we take-on those contracts.
Ted: See if we can get us some help in a trade
EG: I think we make a trade with NO for Okafor and Ariza, two solids vets who provide us with some depth. What's your call?
Ted: Pull the trigger on the trade

If your going to try to make your own point, then at least do it.
The Wizards are missing Wall and Nene. Every team you mentioned is missing one player except one team which is MN. Yes, they do appear to be a plesant surprise so far. But let not get to carried away. 4-1 is a nice start but its only 5 games.
So, of those here who projected 32 wins or more, how many believed the team would not win early in the year. I would be surprised if even just one person responds that they did.
Dallas and Chicago are two of the top organizations in the last 3 years with vet teams. Phili is 3-2 with one win against New Orleans without Anthony Davis.

Something like that.. right. I would think is a bit more detail but yeah. Something like that. Ted was clearly on board. And Meka being the smart pro he is, fit the mold of what Ted wanted added to his team regarding professional vets. And both fit what Randy would like as defenders.
So what better player or players could they have gotten for the Lewis contract ? Seems this was good enough for Ted to sign on. What better could EG have given him to pick from?
