still not sure what dunlap is trying to accomplish. its still a work in progress, no doubt, but something isnt quite right. i cant imagine its his goal to dare teams into wide open 3s, especially knowing how much he values the 3pt shoot. so either the team isnt doing what is instructed or dunlap needs an NBA learning curve to figure out what he can and cannot get away with at this level.

I think he's more worried about protecting the paint, the idea is(i think) that an uncontested layup is much more likely to go in(plus an opportunity for a foul) while an open 3 is not converted at a much greater rate than a contested 3. Don't know the statistics but it seems that we're giving up less at the rim than last season. Conversely most of our players aren't good enough to keep up with the rotations and effectively cover the three...in theory even if we defend the 3 point line badly there is a lot of luck involved in making 3s and we should encounter teams that can't convert. It certainly doesn't feel that way though.

Mullens give up as many open layups as 3s though, so I doubt protecting the paint is Dunlap's thought process or priority. Like I mentioned earlier, Dunlap is torn between substituting offense for defense and end up getting split anyway. I love defense more than offense so it frustrate me to watch, but at least it's more entertaining then last season's routes.

this is why i would prefer to see dunlap mix and match the scorers and defenders better.

scorers
sessions, gordon, williams, mullens

defenders
kemba, mkg, taylor, haywood, biz

the unknown
thomas

the useless
diop, higgins, carroll

the hurt
hendo

we cant have a lineup that has all four of the scorers at the same time, like we did tonight in two long stretches. we also cant afford to go long stretches with a lineup of only the defenders. dunlap needs to mix and match those guys better.

start gordon. forget about that 6th man jazz. play gordon 35 minutes until hendo comes back. sessions and williams can score in that 2nd unit. give them taylor and biz to provide some defense.

starters
kemba, gordon, mkg, mully, haywood

2nd unit
sessions, williams, taylor, thomas, biz

mixed units
kemba, sessions, mkg, mully, biz
sessions, gordon, taylor, thomas, haywood
kemba, williams, taylor, mully, haywood
sessions, gordon, mkg, thomas, biz

you get the picture.

So...we only beat the Pacers on opening night because Gerald Green, Paul George, and formerly our own D.J. Augustin couldn't make the 3 ball that night.

Now we'll be on sportscenter for the right reasons.

The 3-point defensive debacle must stop with the Wizards despite them having a couple of capable deep threats. I hope Dunlap is starting to realize the plus side in going man-to-man like he did at the end of last night's game against the Mavs.

It's just getting laughable at this point. I didn't watch last night's game, was Carter just that wide open or unconscious like Shannon Brown?
Mike Malone was never given a fair chance in Sacramento, and Ranadive will soon come to regret that, when he's on top of the WC inevitably contending somewhere

Prediction: Jordan Crawford either goes 0-12 from three or 10-12 from three. It's one or the other for sure.

Don't leave out Bradley Beal or Martell Webster. For some reason I think it'll be Webster, but I hope it's nobody.

The way things are going I wouldn't be surprised if both guys deal some damage.
