How did Rondo rack up 20 assists?

Post#1 » by bball34 » Sun Nov 18, 2012 1:09 am

I was shocked when I saw the stat sheet. He did nothing really special in the game but somehow ended up with 20 assists. I have to admit that Rondo is one of the greatest statpadders.

He wasn't statpadding. He was finding the open man, creating space, and really just controlling a free-flow offense out there. The difference between Boston and us is that they are comfortable with their offense, know their sets and have great spacing and movement. The Raptors have none of that and are completely unaware and oblivious on offense. Rondo was throwing 'oops, making nifty passes, and just finding the open man.

Really poor defense resulting in wide open looks.

Rondo's good, really good actually, the entire offense runs through him and he's able to shred poor defensive play.

our defense is garbage. Rondo was "comfortable" all night.

Rondo got 20 assists by passing the ball to his team mates 20 times, and those passes led to direct buckets.

He throws the ball to KG, and KG schooled Jonas a bit.
And a couple of nice passes.

Because the Raptors suck balls. I cant wait til Lowry gets back, at least he'll keep us in games.

That's what continuity does for a team. Doc has been there for for 9 seasons now. Pierce, their best player, has been there with him the whole time. KG, Rondo, both have been in Boston for 6 seasons now. Keeping a main group of players together (good/great players) is key to the success of any franchise. Other guys tend to fall in line when you have legitimate veteran players who command respect. Meanwhile, you have the Raptors who get a franchise player (Bosh, Carter), but just never seem to put talent around him. Chemistry isn't built in a training camp or two, it takes a few seasons for players to really get to know how they play with each other.

Having consistency within a franchise is usually quite beneficial.

Rondo got everything he wanted. He was never disrupted. No ball pressure from our pg. Our frontcourt was bad on help D. Rondo saw right through it.

Rondo did it with ease.
Prediction
Spurs in 7. Parker MVP. Lebron 6-17fg, 18pt, 8reb, 5 asst in game 7 LOSS.
The Heat will choke!

You do realize 20 assists mean he directly lead to his team getting, at the very least, 40 points, not including everytime they were fouled in the act or made threes?

Yeah, essentially 44 points by one player is nothing but stat-padding. Mhm.

Rondo has good team with many excellent scoring players
If you put excellent player like Jaeryd BayLess on Celtic team, he probably 30+ assist and beat Skile WR

For some reason many arenas hold stat-padding night when the Raps roll into town.

Not hard to beat Calderon and draw extra defenders. Find open man. The end.

I'd like to see him try that on Lowry.

You know, to all you laughing at the notion of stat padding, go watch this, and see how loose the definition of an assist is in the NBA at times.

http://www.nba.com/video/games/celtics/ ... -play6.nba

That's Rondo's 20 assists on NBA.com, so the league must be pretty proud of this one. Most of them are pretty legit, but a few of them are total gifts. Pass, pump fake, dribble, jump shot, credited with an assist.

I'm not trying to take away from Rondo here, as a player, he's damned good, but he's not dropping 20 showtime Magic dimes or anything.
