Diop has some value as an expiring contract. We could pull off another Gordon/Maggs-esque trade that gets us a draft pick. If Dallas gets desperate for cap space midseason, we could offer Diop for Shawn Marion and a pick or something along those lines. Can you imagine Biyombo, Marion, MKG, JT, and Kemba playing together at the same time? Undersized as hell, but damn that's a lot of defense. Marion could mentor the rookies. If MKG becomes the next Shawn Marion, I would probably wet myself every other time I watched us play. I LOOOOVEEEEEEEDDD prime Shawn Marion.

There you go, Diop could turn MKG into Shawn Marion.

I think MKG can be better than Marion but I like where your head is.

Now that I think about it, I'd do that trade without the draft pick, but if Mark Cuban's desperate enough, I could trust Cho to get us another pick

Wouldn't surprise me if we do get rid of Diop.

A couple of years ago I used to read about him training in the offseason, usually in Dallas.
This year, I've heard bugger all and according to his twitter he is happily enjoying the family life.

Maybe he's happy to fade away into retirement.

If we got Jamison, do people really think he'd be on the bench behind Mullens? I don't agree.

Well, it would not surprise me to see Haywood start. We all think Biz has to be an undersized 5, but that ignores everything that has come out of the front office, saying they see Biz as a 4. Obviously Biz could play some reserve 5, but do not be surprised if they play Biz off the bench at the 4 (behind Jamison or whomever we get there) and Mullens behind Haywood at the 5.

The coaching staff and FO are into development, but sometimes it is better to see that development occur from the bench (with plenty of minutes) behind a veteran. In the case of Biz, he must improve his offensive game, his rebounding, and stay out of foul trouble.

I think they amnesty Tyrus only if they can get someone like Scola, depending on the amount of $ needed. If it's a Jamison signing @$5M, they can amnesty Diop and get the dollars needed for both of these guys, can't they?

If Jamison goes elsewhere, I wonder if they will regret missing out on Hickson?
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Who in the FO said they see Biz as a 4? Just curious. Never seen that before, only that Silas thought he was a 4...

Diop used to be pretty active in charity for Africa (and probably still is). I doubt he is going to get another contract in NBA, could continue his career in Europe though if for nothing else then for sticking around raising money for those charities. Maybe I am completely off though. He also may not be healthy enough to keep rolling as well, who knows. Sorry for OT.

Very good move for that price. It's nice to have a big physical presence coming off the bench or when Biyombo/Mullens rack up some early fouls. Hope we can land Jamison as well.

3rd year is not a team option. With amnesty you have to go for the length of his original deal (excluding team options). Haywood was signed for 4 more years in Dallas, but the last was a team option. Therefore, we only go for 3 years. Still a good deal though. We won't be able to trade him this year, but the last two years of that deal he is VERY moveable with that 2.05 salary.

I think the KHump talk is just about over. He will be a Net....

Hopefully we boost his trade value a lot this year. This time next year we could get something niiiiice in exchange for a starting (?) caliber center on a Kwame Brown-like contract.

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/1 ... tball.html

It’s late on a Wednesday night in January. Center Brendan Haywood has just played another game in an 11-season NBA career, and sits back for some down time. What does he do?

“Turn on League Pass, and watch the Denver Nuggets against the Milwaukee Bucks,” Haywood said.

And this isn’t passive viewing. Former teammates and coaches marvel at the recall Haywood has about every player in the league, big man or not.

“You’d be surprised how many players don’t watch basketball. They’re just good at it,” Haywood said. “For me, watching basketball isn’t work, isn’t a chore. It’s what I love to do.”

Carlisle calls Haywood one of the best teammates in the league and a fine help defender. Others – former Washington Wizards interim coach Ed Tapscott and ex-Wizards and Tar Heels teammate Antawn Jamison – say Haywood’s basketball intellect is off the charts.

“When the Wizards were making the playoffs, Gilbert (Arenas) and I got all the credit. But he was the glue guy on those teams,” Jamison told the Observer recently. “You saw a significant drop-off in our defense whenever he didn’t play because the help just wasn’t there, both with what he did and what he told us was coming.”

Jamison said he could go to Haywood for a scouting report on any player in the league and hear nuances he’d missed or forgotten. Haywood illustrated Jamison’s point.

“I might not be guarding Gerald Wallace, but I know he’s heavy right-handed,” Haywood said. “Guys who don’t want to go left only have limited counter(move)s. You know they can only do this, or they can only take a jumper.”

“Communication on defense is a very big thing,” Haywood said.”Sometimes it’s underrated, but you can never do enough of it.”

“When you can trust the big guy behind you, you’re not scared to pressure the ball or contest shots,” Carroll said. “He’s very pro-active in letting you know, ‘I’ve got your back.’ If you’re going to play a high-octane defense, you’ve got to have that because (perimeter) guys aren’t going to take as many chances if you’re worried about guys blowing by you. He overcomes that.”

I am loving this aquisition more, and more. Brendan is going to be an excellent mentor for Biz and Mullens, and maybe Zeller, McAdoo or Noel.

I know and for 1.8 a year! That's less than a fourth of what we are paying Thomas.

I love what he is doing and when the time comes he is perfect trade bait for a contender.
