Barnes would probably be no good on this team, either.

But as for Lillard, yeah, I think we'd have a few wins now if we had picked him.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Charlotte has 7 wins and 5 losses. The Wizards have 0 wins and 11 losses, 2 against the Bobcats.

Opinion: The worst thing that could have happened to Beal was to be drafted into a poorly run, desperate organization. Wizard fans are losing faith in a 19-yr old that is a tremendous player. There is not a darn thing wrong with Bradley Beal! But there is a whole lot wrong with the Wizards, their coach, their GM, their owner, and any fans who lose their minds over his slow start.

For one, this KID should not be put in positions to fail.

Jay81, Harrison Barnes at 20 is a whole year oider than Beal. Barnes has Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, David Lee, Carl Landry taking pressure off of him. Beal has made MORE threes in LESS games than Barnes. Beal is a 90% FT shooter so far.

I am really mad about people turning on this player! Beal is no savior. He's too small and not quick enough to dominate YET. He's also playing under the worst of circumstances.

I don't want to offend anyone but Beal is NOT the problem!!!!

Thank you CCJ

Give Beal time.. He can stuff a stat sheet and made plays tonight. Sure his shots weren't going down but atleast he keeps shooting.

Avery Bradley: 68
Jamal Crawford: 84
J.R. Smith: 95
Mike Conley: 97
Rajon Rondo: 97
Russell Westbrook: 99
Jason Terry: 100
Leandro Barbosa: 100
John Wall: 100
O.J. Mayo: 103

Comparing him to hyper athletic PG's like Rondo, Wall and Westbrook is pointless. Beal is nothing like those guys. (Those guys had an impact that exceeded their ORtg.) And among the rest of those guys listed, there isn't much that gets me excited. Crawford, Smith, Terry, Mayo and Barbosa are all bench players or below average starters.

As I said in my post, in no way was I comparing Beal to any of the players referenced. I was simply using the metric that you settled on as the basis of your argument to show that there are several recent examples of players who have improved after being drafted. Personally, that metric does little for me in this argument. There are many players, like James Harden for instance, whose ratings even as rookies were above average but were far less productive than they are today. And development is development, regardless of style of play. To suggest Rondo, Wall and Westbrook must be excluded from the conversation ignores how each of those players improved their all-around skills to complement their athleticism and become better overall players.

CCJ, would it be impolite to point out that you have declared Wall a bust under pretty much the same circumstances? Beal is already better than Wall ring a bell ;)

I just want to clarify...I don't think Beal is the problem either.
However, is he the right FIT for this team. He is timid. He is not an elite scorer. He appears lost even though he is playing A LOT of minutes.

Three examples:
1. The Wiz have an inbounds play in OT. Beal is at the top of the key. 4 seconds tick off..he doesn't move and he finally gets the ball. It's obvious they didn't want to pass to him. He doesn't move and doesn't look to score...instead he passes the ball...a poor pass at that.
2. Beal gets a rebound and dribbles up court. As soon as he passes the half court line he freezes and looks to pass. It was a "deer in headlight" move. I see he froze and got scared. He almost looses the ball via a double team.
3. Beal constantly stays on the two corners. I estimate he rarely moves from that position 60-70% of the game. Zero off-ball movement. He appears lost.

I'm not calling the kid a bust. I just don't know if he's the right fit. Other teams can take projects. I feel as if he doesn't have that killer instinct. If you could put JC's confidence in him...he'd be nice. But instead he looks timid and outmatched.

I don't think he'll be a bust. I just don't think he'll be good for us in the next two years.

The thing is most of us wanted a productive rookie with the 3rd pick after going through a horrific season with Vesely and Singleton playing heavy mins. The same thing is happening again with Beal. I mean he's already on our team, but we really have to pray that this is not his ceiling. I don't see elite talent with him, unlike most posters declared before the season began. He's undersized and unathletic and if it's gonna take him 2 to 3 years to play like an average starter, trust me the same supporters will be here complaining about EG picking busts. Like most posters mentioned, he doesn't seem like a good fit right now. We just didn't put him in a good position to succeed. However, if you are a GUARD drafted 3rd overall, you shouldn't need another player to create your shots.
I really hope he comes good tho, but he's bricking way too many open jumpers right now to be effective.

I didn't want to be any more incendiary than I already have, but queridiculo, I've already seen more from Beal than I have from Wall. Beal is going to be a fine player.

John Wall is 22, almost a full three years older than Bradley Beal. Both of them are very young guys but Beal has poise, presence, intelligence, and a more complete game IMO than John Wall. The good news is I like Wall a whole lot better alongside Beal. More important, I KNOW Beal is going to be MUCH better alongside Wall.

I want to see Beal and Wall TOGETHER because I think they are tailor-made to boost one another's game.

You are just like everyone who said Charlotte would suck.

Vesely is a bust at #6 who I guaran-damn-tee you will be a useful role player elsewhere.

Beal is a better-than-average player who simply needs to be with another team that will give him time to develop. To call Beal a bust is beyond stupid.

Reality: I compared 19-yr old Beal to 20-year old Harden through 11 games. Specifically, I showed Beal had just as many GOOD games and FEWER poor games.

Reality: Star-talented Jeff Malone posted a below average PER of 11 and a below average ORtg of 100 as a 22-year old rookie.

Those guys had great careers and so will Bradley Beal. When you are wrong, have the decency to admit it.

CCJ, while I disagree with your stance on Wall alone, I couldn't agree more with the Wall/Beal pairing. You can see how their skill sets will fit extremely well together. Now lets just hope the coaching staff properly taps into that and the front office doesn't find a way to butcher it.

Wall might just turn it around, but I am really concerned about the knee injury.

darnellm04, I think this front office is already messing up. I'm losing faith in Wittman, too. Right now, the best bet IMO would be to start Webster at SG, Ariza at SF, Nene at PF, and Okafor at C. Beal, Seraphin, Vesely, and Singleton simply need to come off the bench. Crawford should have been traded, even if he's currently out-performing Beal.

Beal needs to be playing behind veterans--preferably better a better one at SG than the Wizards currently have.

The only things the Wizards FO has tapped into is how to screw it up royally.

That's a completely fair concern. I want to believe he can overcome it. But I can only cringe knowing that his long-term health rests in the hands of such a poorly-run franchise. For now, I'm remaining optimistic that they'll do right by him and what's in the best interest of the team's future. Being proactive and holding him out to start the season was a very encouraging sign for me.

I'm still not sold on Charlotte being even mediocre. I think they're playing above themselves while scoring wins against mostly bad teams.

But if I'm wrong, I'll send CCJ an apologetic post card at the end of the season. ;)

They are FINALLY handling an injury correctly.

As badly as I want to see Wall with Beal, darnellm04, I believe they are doing the right thing. Who cares if Wall is out now? This is already a lost season, but they need to protect their asset and preserve his health by taking things slowly, as they are doing.

Regardless of what happens with Wall, however, the Wizards would be very wise to draft a very good PG prospect.

Sure, it's a lost season in terms of playoff contention. But it's extremely important for Wall to get back on the court at some point in the near future to continue developing individually while also establishing a foundation with Beal. That's all this season is about to me once Wall returns. I want Wall healthy, and I'm willing to watch him sit on the bench in a suit for however long that takes. Which is why I'm encouraged that the team is holding him out. Still, he's far from a finished product. He can't afford to miss the majority of a season. Too much of Wall's development and the team's depends on him playing. As for your last sentence, mind elaborating? We're bound to have a high draft pick. Why would you want us to use it on another talented PG prospect? Does that speak more to your opinion of Wall as a player, his health or his commitment to the organization?
