Re: GT - Spurs vs. Wizards (11/26/12 @ 7pm)
Just watching, POP doesn't not allow players minutes unless they know the system to perfection. The san antonio third stringers know washington's play better than washington starters.
What sad is that a viewer on TV can knows when a big is clearing out space so his guard can drive seconds before professional players getting paid millions of dollars standing on the court knows. A viewer on TV is ahead of hte washington wizard starters on the floor.
The only player who recognized when a big was clearing out space so that his guard could drive a few moments later was a bench player, and of course he got called foul *Baron fought through a baseline clear out seconds before san antonio guards got there, but while he fought through the resistance of tiago splitter screen because refs let established players get away with murder, but it's also because Washington's Bigs outside of Nene and Earl Barron have proven to have lowest basketball iq of any team in the league. Seraphin, Vesely, Booker, and Okafor have absolutely no heart for fighting for inside position on each play and yet we are giving them starter minutes. Seraphin watches his man stand at the top of the key and has no clue that to key to stopping the evolving play is for seraphin to clog up the driving lanes at the top of the key. If you see your man relaxed at the top of the key and he is facing you, you should already suspect that he isn't doing anything because that's where he wants you to be based n the design of the play. pathetic.
You don't let a front court player get starter minutes if he doesn't act like an alpha male. Vesely looks like he is in the nba mainly to earn an nba check, he has no passion defending his space. I have never seen a 7'0 footer give up advantage points on the basketball court as easily as Vesely. Okafor is pretty lazy too, he knows where he is suppose to be but couldn't care most of the time because he is old and doesn't have passion except for getting the occassional block. seraphin wants to be he is just clueless as the the advantageous spots that he is suppose to fight for. He has no hope unless Nene is tutoring him heavily because whitman is clueless. Newman if he is signed here longterm might actually start caring about developing the players but not much as happened.
you have to be alpha male and not let the opposing big to control key advantage spots on the court. the problem is Grunfeldian cullture doesn't teach bigs to fight for court position and it doesn't teach players to be responsible for knowing the passing angles of play 10 seconds into the play and ensuring that you are in our spot. Same thing on offense, the bigs don't even understand the direction that they are suppose to angle the player they are picking in order to give our guards an advantage. Our guards don't have the dribble skills to move a defender into a pick.
YOu look at duncan, and each time he sents a pick, he makes sure that the guard he is picking is trailing after the pick is set. There is absolutely know discipline offensively. The players don't even know where they are suppose to be positioned when a defense collapses. What do these guys do 24 hours a day, sit on video games or lounge.
I am sure newman knows how pops ensures his players are ready and prepared. My only conclusion is that the basketball iq of this team is in the bottom percentile of the league. The scout team that our first and second stringers are suppose to scrimmage against have to be the lowest iq players in the league. Grunfeldian Culture at its best. Jumpshot is what his culture cares about, not bigs strategically clearing out driving lanes or designing plays with multiple options based on the response of the defense deep into the shot clock. It all start up top, Newman and Livingston need to providing Leonsis 3 hour classroom sessions on what's wrong and how to fix the wizards.
so again, if you have a low bbiq scout team, and the others team third stringers are outscoring your starters with wide open layups and wide open jumpshots, the GM responsible for picking the coach should be relieve of his duties and the coach who supposedly prepared his team mentally for how to be in the right spot to stop the 5th option of a play needs to be relieved. the issue with the wizards has always been and for the rest of this season low bbiq and low overall team iq deep into the play clock. Players have no concept of how to be an alpha male and clear out strategic space a few seconds before their guard drives the lane. There seems to be no accountability for a big not holding his ground on a pick, there seems to be zero accountability for a guard not setting up his man to run into a solid pick due to poor handspeed dribbling. It's a total mess. I don't see why Earl Barron isn't starting. Next to Nene he has neck and shoulders higher basketball iq than any front court player---singleton is clueless, booker clueless, vesely even though he looks like he is working, never fights for strategic position playing p/f---so worthless as p/f cartier martin is a joke,
You have players that just don't seem to the have a high enough basketball iq to be ahead of play...they are almost always behind, always a second late because they have not been trained to diagnose a high iq basketball play and nuisance of how to stop it.
The highest iq player on the team is usually the point guard, Wall is never going to be a high iq point guard. So your second best bet is to have foundational backup high iq point guard. Management doesn't even have that in place. This organization is so dysfunctional, that it's frightening for me to consider myself a fan for so long. the only hope really is Newman as head coach and then he can start slowly trickling in San Antonio coaches and change the culture. Sign Livingston longterm and turn wall into a system tony parker type point guard who doesn't need to think much. Nene has Duncan like basketball iq which is good. Crawford is 6th man type jason terry type player which is good. But Seraphin awareness is horrendous and he needs to be completely broken down and rebuilt starting with knowing strategic spots on teh floor to fight for. He should even be given minutes until he can show this in practice, but the only high iq practice player he has is earl barron. Nene has foot problems so he cant practice against nene. booker, singleton, and vesely are all clueless. its just a bad situation. Leonsis and Newman have to figure out how to get rid of low iq players and players who dont fight for position every play and replace them with high iq disciplined warriors with athletic talent.

How can a guy who watches the Wizards be so clueless? This is the same line of thinking guys like Grunfeld and Wittman have. They watch a game and have NO CLUE what statistics and performance over time VERY CLEARLY SHOW.
That is the single dumbest thing I've heard a radio play-by-play guy say. Turrible ...
I called in after the game and called for EG to be fired. GC let me speak my piece than
when I was off, he quietly started talking about how he doesn't like to say someone/anyone
should be fired. How we should feel sorry for him if he were to lose his job in this economy.
I was having a hard time with it. EG has probably made at least $50 M in his pro sports
career as a player and executive. He should never HAVE to work a day in his life. How
about a little pity for the average fan who buys season tickets to watch what they
should be able to expect is a competitive team. GC was earlier asking what changes
need to be made. First change needed is clearly with the one person who is and has been
deciding what changes to make for the last 9 years. EG is no more entitled to
be free of criticism than any one else in the organization, players coaches or mgmt.
I like Glenn personally. I think he's a good guy. But jeez, how can it be inappropriate
to say the first change needs to be with the guy who will then decide what all
the subsequent changes will be?
Players, coaches and mgmt are all hired to be fired in pro sports. Don't like it?
Choose another profession.

You know, it's one thing to write pointless posts as you do all the time; it's another to call people names. Repeatedly. Which you also do.
It's one thing to critique what someone writes -- please feel free to point out any mistakes I make in what I post here (for example, maybe other teams *have* cut their 2011 round 2 choices; if so, that would be a telling criticism of what I wrote) -- but, again, it's another thing to respond by calling me a name.
As you probably recall, I've asked you once to stop this kind of thing. This time I'm asking for an apology and a commitment not to do it again.
Clear? Come through, please.

I am very disappointed that we didn't at least get an MV. I already know we can't get the real kind.

Re: GT - Spurs vs. Wizards (11/26/12 @ 7pm)
It's not the fault of the players- they are only as good as they are. The fault lies with who put the group together. The Washington Grunfelds will continue to faulter as long as Ernie is in the GM position. He had a few good moves 7 or 8 years ago, perhaps as a fluke, who knows. He has consistently assembled teams of what would be third round picks in the old days, and hoping they provide first round type play. He cannot judge talent even as well as most of the posters here. There is not one Washington Grunfeld coveted by another team. Wall is closest, and he brings a late first round pick ability to the team. Jan Vesely? Are you kidding me. With any other team, he would be an undrafted free agent -signrf to help out in practice and be perhaps 11th or 12th in rotation. But Ernie SQUANDERS a 6 for him. He picks up Hilario, knowing he is hurt and age 30- when injuries linger on until retirement.

In the past 24 hours you've had someone legitimately challenge you to a knife fight, and others calling you names. I commend you on your ability to stir up a generally "too serious" board.
Who challenged me to a knife fight? I missed that.
Where's that hand(s)y-dandy "ignore" button, man? I missed that too!
