Boston gave up on Joe Johnson the same way some of you are giving up on Beal. JJ's TS% in his rookie year was 47%, the same as Beal's right now.

Beal is taking a lot of 3s and is making 1/3 of them, not great but not bad either. His big problem is getting used to the length of NBA defenders. He will have to make some adjustments but calling a 19 year old rookie a bust after a month is ridiculous.

My god, we do not get the calls, even when we are winning :| Nene's drive in the last 30 seconds of the game was a clear blocking foul. In the 3rd, i think, Okafor got done for a block on what was a clear charge. The refs (and the Wiz themselves) did everything they could to make us lose.

I agree we didn't get a lot of calls, but technically the last play could have been called a foul, when Nene technically fouled the player grabbing the last lob. Instead it turned into a timeout. That could have easily been two. I think it evens out in the end.

Thanks for the link, Wes. That is pretty encouraging - I was among the loudest supporters for Singleton the entire year before the Draft and celebrated the most when the Wiz picked him. I still think he can be a very productive player. It may be as a 6th man filling both Forward slots. It may be as a "stretch 4" or, like in the Aldridge example, a spot 4 based on the situation (I hate to use the term "small ball" but that's essentially what it is). It may be as a defensive stopper. But, he should have a role for quite some time.

I think he was hurt more than anyone else by not having a training camp last year. Defense is all about schemes and knowing your opponents' tendencies. [As he showed in discussing Aldridge's tendencies. That may be the most encouraging sign of all about that article, if Chris is staying up late doing his homework. Knowing the opponent better than he knows himself is a great advantage in defending.] Singleton seems to have a much better grasp of both ends of the court this year.

Like the comments from Draft Day last year, just imagine that Singleton was the #6 pick, and Vesely the Pecherov-style #18. Singleton would still have been a reach at #6, but is a far sight better than Vesely so far.

Random thought about why Vesely was drafted.
During the last inbounds play, I realized he can jump. I'm not sure if that was a function of him being in front of me, but he appears to be impressive physically.
Even though most people think he sucks, I like how he was putting his all into denying the inbounds play.
That kid is pure hustle.

I agree, and also loved the article.

I wanted Jeff Green here as our future SF starter, and most wrote him off because of his play and his heart condition. He is playing pretty good ball for the C's this year, though.

However, I think we have our own developing Jeff Green-style talent right here already in Singleton. His handles have improved but still need work. His shot is improving to where he is a knock down shooter when he has space and with his feet set. And his defense is sometimes lock-down level, as we saw in that final play. He might not be our starting SF of the future, but he will make a great 6th man coming in at both F spots.

Too early to write Beal off, many of us said he wouldn't be ready to be a quality NBA starter as young as he is . . . I still see a Hersey Hawkins type career for him. He reminds me of him a bit with his game (hopefully his rebounding will be superior as that was one of the brightest signs coming out of college -- implies a strength and will that I hope to see play out).

Yeah, wasn't that something, that lob almost went in and it would have been good.

I *think* if the lob had gone in without anyone touching it it would have been a turnover. It had to be tapped in -- of course that almost happened too.

Green has been AWFUL for the Celtics this year. If Singleton turns out to be a Green-like player, Grunfeld should be fired upon.
