when it comes to discussing NBA stats you really need to throw out everything from before 1976 and definitely everything from the 50s and 60s.

so for arguments sake, lets exclude the everything from before the ABA merger.

since i have been watching hoops, rodman is the best rebounder i have seen. i'd put moses malone up towards the top of the discussion as well.

Kevin Love has his good moments, even if Jackson says he's fouling.

No, that's probably completely false.

No way, Emeka's stretching and yoga routine would be revolutionary and warrant him elite status in the 50s and 60s, no doubt.

he'd probably put his college degree to use and pull a back to the future with a sports almanac and sit on his ass eating doughnuts with boris diaw's dad

Rodman and Charles Barkley.

Wilt was great and all but he played in an era where most nights he'd be going up against a team with no one above 6'8".

What era was that? From George Mican (6'10) on most of the hall of fame big men have been 6'8 or bigger. And the last time I checked 7'1 270 lb centers were still rare, and few of them are good. You still only have a handful of great ones here and there. Wilt in the nba today still dominates. He may not do so to the level that he did, but he still mops the floor with the centers in the league today. He does this not just because of his size, but also because of heart. Rebounding has always been and always will be more about heart than skills. That is why undersized guys like Rodman, Barkley and Love made it look easy. To quote Charles Barkley, " I want the ball more than the other guy." Wilt averaged 22 boards per game because he wanted the ball more than the other guys.

Stats always have and always will be unreliable. They can be manipulated easily to prove the point the presenter wants to make. You know like we are doing. The bottom line is No one else has as many rebounds as Wilt period.

go back and look up stats for 1959-60 season when wilt was a young NBA player.

the lowest scoring team in the league averaged 107ppg, with the highest at 124ppg, you would think with scoring that high that teams were shooting a high percentage. however, that is not the case. all 8 teams had fg% ranging from 38% to 42% for the season.

what does that tell us? it lets us know that the pace of the game was outrageously fast with both teams usually taking the first open shot down the floor. guards from this era had god awful fg%. tons of rebounds to be had each game.

the celtics grabbed 6014 rebounds as a team that year in only 75 games. that is an average of 80 rebounds per game. let me repeat that number........ 80!!! for comparisons sake, the bulls from 1996-97 grabbed 3696 rebounds for the year (2nd in the league). that amounts to an average of 45 rebounds per game.

there were almost twice as many missed shots per game in 1960 compared to 1997. that equals twice as many rebounds available for guys like wilt, russell and schayes to gobble up.

you stick any half decent big man from the modern NBA and put them in 1960 and they will average 15-20 rebounds per game in their sleep.

the game was completely different. its comparing apples and oranges.

this is not to take away from the fact that wilt is still one of the 5 greatest players who ever played and obviously a terrific rebounder regardless of era, its simply to show that looking at raw rebound numbers from 1960 and trying to compare those to 1997 is not a good idea.

:D :o :) Definitely like this move. Higgins made 1.6 mil in 1year 6 months and gave us very little. Even thought Adrian is only 6'6" 244 his bodymass is like the incrediable hulk and His wingspan is 7'2". Looking forward to seeing him paired with Kemba and Gordon MKG and Biz..We need a thug down low. Hope he plays Wednesday. Welcome to the NBA Adrian...
Bye Bye Hig!~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cho and Dunlap continue to amaze..Stay tuned for trades as this team develops a new identity.

Adrien's 3rbs in 5 mins for a +1 in a miserable Cats game last night. Any first impressions from the brief appearance?

I couldn't take much from watching it in such brief minutes. He came in for 2 minutes when the game was in reach and got a good defensive stop (block) before being quickly subbed out. Then he played garbage time where everyone was lethargic and trying to get the game over with. I would like to see him implemented during meaningful minutes next game since Mullens is a inconsistent clutz that we can't depend on from a game to game basis.

Shot happy, defensively lazy, and thinks he is better than he is maybe. But inconsistent clutz? I don't know about that one.

Jeff has a long way to go before he takes major minutes away from Mully. Honestly I don't see it happening.

Clutz mean someone who is extremely careless and stupid. I think shot happy and defensively lazy fall into that definition.

As far as minutes I'm all for anybody taking major minutes from Mully until he get the memo. I would rather see MKG start at PF. Come to think of it I wouldn't mind seeing a starting lineup of Kemba/Hendo/JT/MKG/Biyombo going forward. Maybe I'm just a little frustrated from these losses but it's making sense to me right now.

Maybe it's a regional thing. In this part of the peidmont a clutz is a person who is uncordinatated, trips, and drops things a lot. I have also never known the word to apply to intellect, because from my experiences the word was usually applied to shy uncordinated braniacs. (nerds if you will)

Maybe I'm speaking slang or Yiddish but however you want to put it he looks stupid and clumsy to me when he's on the court.

I always though it was spelled "klutz" for some reason. And I've always known it to mean clumsy.

:offtopic: Some you guys read too many books. Rightfully so, since some of you are still college students. Anyway clutz or klutz has various different meanings from clumsy, awkward, to stupid depending on the usage.

Expect to see at least 15 minutes from Jeff Adrien tomorrow versus the Magic who sport a heavy frontcourt featuring Glen Davis, Nikola Vucevic, Andrew Nicholson, & Gustavo Ayon. I hope he can give us an performance to rave about.

I thought the exact same thing the first season Timmy was at Wake Forest. Matter of fact I remember my first thoughts of him exactly being, "Man that' s a stupid looking goofball coming on the court."

there's a big difference between clumsy and stupid though.

There's obviously a ton of possible connotations, but that seems like a big stretch to me personally

Ditto these guys. I've heard putz (spelling?) used more as a synonym for stupid but not really klutz. I prefer the term hobbledehoy to klutz. More fun to say. I'd say Biz more of a hobbledehoy than Mullens is though. Mully just has Stephen Jackson's syndrome from time to time.
