Oh man, South Lakes/Herndon. That brings back some memories. I went to SL for all four years Scottie Reynolds was at Herndon, saw him tear us up quite often. We had a guy year younger then me who would always sit by the Herndon bench and yell curse words at Scottie.

My Freshmen year was the best. That was the last year we played them twice(after that we left their district). They beat us in both regular season games, but we beat them for both the district and regional championship.

in case you missed this in prior posts of mine

I went to HHS, class of 75 (yeah I'm an old fart)
My daughters go to SLHS (we live in Reston)
My younger daughter is on the SLHS JV team.

What years were you at SLHS?

I graduated in 06, was there from 02-06.

Do they still make Beat Herndon shirts at SL? I always thought that was really lame.

Also, is Christy Winters-Scott still coaching the girls? She's hot as hell.

CWS is the varsity coach and is definitely easy on the eyes.

She has a son in Reston Little League where my younger one umps
so we see her at RLL games as well as in her role as head of the SLHS
girls hoop program.

I really wonder what she was like as a player. I know she led SLHS
to an undefeated state champ season and then was on a UMd final 4 team.

I do think Kirk Cousins is a legitimate, starting-caliber, NFL quarterback. Thought so when he was drafted. Thanks, fisher.

RGIII is way better than I imagined but let him have a slump or multiple injuries in a year or two, and you could have a quarterback controversy.

It's all good now, though, because that is a good problem to have. RGIII is a league-MVP candidate. He has forever put himself in the hearts of Redskins fans and has the respect of the entire NFL. I was TOTALLY wrong to think Griffin would struggle in the NFL. (It helps a bunch that the Skins drafted Alfred Morris. The running game is keeping defenses off-balance some from unloading fully on RG3. Who knew the Skins would be so dominant on the ground?) Cousins will have to be HOF great to overtake RG3.

One thing is for sure, the trade value of Kirk Cousins is sky high now.

Kirk Cousins wants to know, "How do you like 'Debbie Downer' now, Mark Schlereth?"

I found it ironic that Cousins comes to Washington, but not that Cousins. So, I put up some pictures that I thought showed the difference in one and the other.

My real point was I curious about the move to draft a QB right after drafting RGIII. I thought the Redskins have other needs.

I think drafting a QB didn't make sense.

I DID NOT KNOW IT COULD HAVE BEEN A STRATEGIC MOVE to draft a QB that might get the Skins some picks back.

fisher, if I only had the gift with lotto numbers. I would be rich, man. :)
Bye bye Beal.

There've been 10 different 50/40/90 seasons in NBA history but only three 50/40/60 seasons and LBJ is on pace to make it 4.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dc- ... blackness/

I actually kinda agree with Parker -- I think he expressed what he was trying to say very awkwardly. He's trying to say, he would like it if RGIII did more than just say "I appreciate that other people are proud that I'm a successful black man, I don't mean to downplay it, but that's not what motivates me."

Sounds like he wants RGIII to stand up for black people, not just deign to allow them to be motivated by his success. Why not say:

"I'm proud to be African American. We invented Jazz. We have the best musicians, the best american writers, the best President. We are what America is all about. I don't think we should be as proud of black athletes -- for a long time, that was all a young black man could aspire too, and that's wrong -- young people should be aspiring to be more than just a professional athlete. They should want to be the next Barack Obama, not the next RGIII. So I'm proud to be black, and I'm proud to be a good quarterback. But I'm not proud to be a black quarterback."
I've been taught all my life to value service to the weak and powerless.

I have no problem with what RG3 said. Race shouldn't define anyone. But when it comes to race(like religion or politics), people tend to go full (Please Use More Appropriate Word).

Rob Parker made Steven A Smith seem like the voice of reason. Some things you might think but you cannot say in public.

Dude lost a great gig. I bet they don't bring him back after that.

Steven A Smith literally said right after the rant "I'm uncomfortable with where we're headed in this discussion."

I can't believe that he thought it was OK to even hint at something like this. And Skip! I hate espn. They could have such awesome discourse and reach such a wide audience and yet they just refuse to. Even when they try to be intellectual with OTL it ends up being stuffy and pretentious. Grantland had potential but still... extremely unsatisfying. It's a wonder (and blessing) that Yahoo Sports continues to provide the best reads in sports bar none.

pancackes, I wasn't going to mention it because I've already cried about it and continue to. There's nothing sadder that I can imagine than the horror for those kids, the teachers, and all the family members. Why?

Sad, sad day indeed. A random and senseless killing of innocent elementary school kids. It's hard to think of anything worse. My prayers go out to those families and that town.
