I think Ted is keeping EG around to save face since he just extended EG this summer. Ted would look foolish if he fired EG so quickly. My guess is that Ted has heard enough criticism of EG from the media, the fans, the message boards, and his blog to realize that he has probably made a mistake. My guess is that Ted is going to fire EG, but not until either the Trade Deadline or the summer (when there are likely to be better GM candidates available).

I'm hoping that, in the meantime, Ted is prepared to veto any major moves that involve us sacrificing future assets. He'll let EG tinker with the lineups around the edges, but EG won't be permitted to do anymore substantial damage. I think it's a bad idea though. If Ted no longer trusts EG, then he should fire him this instant. Waiting accomplishes nothing.

Those thinking he will do it before the end of the session are fooling themselves. I suggest either sitting back and watching this play out or just toon out until the season is over and go watch the competent team or teams of your choice. We will still be here when you get back.

Next up is getting to watching Mack 2.0 Should be fun to see how much swag he added. Mostly I think it will come in the form of a more confident outside shot which the team really needs from its back up PG.

While this isn't a block buster move, I think it will bear some fruit for this team because they haven't had two competent PG at the same time all year. Add Mack now that he refined him game in the DL could give them that. That should also allow them to play Crawford a few less minutes so he isn't dragging on back to backs.

Time for Kevin to get back in grove. I can deal with the loses but I'm looking forward to them playing more competitive ball and watching some of these younger players show improvement.

Wow, just saw Cleveland picked up Livingston. Good luck with that.

You let Grunfeld pull off one more lopsided trade for the Wizards and then drop the axe at season's end. That's the way I think it should be done.

You don't know if Mack's refined anything, can only hope. Mack's biggest strength as I always saw it was his ability to slow the game down and play under control. I thought he was the perfect complement to Wall's fast-paced play that would result in turnovers many times in the past. His D-League scoring stats look more like what he produced at Butler, let's hope it carries over when he faces the big boys the second time around.

When EG has made the Okariza debacle just six months ago, and the Mike Miller trade when the rebuild should have been starting you have to take the keys away and send him to his room, in another freaking city. No way should he have anything close to another solitary second in helping determine the next trade, move, or even european scouting trip we make. Kick him to the curb and how.

I don't hate giving up Rashard Lewis for Okafor and Ariza, both of those guys help the team out more than Lewis ever did and at least one of them can still be used in acquiring a better player. I say let him pull off another trade and then cut him loose and allow him to have nothing to do with the drafting process. I will give Grunfeld some credit for his ability to get good compensaton through trades but that's as far as I go with him.

i can't believe that SOME wizard fans still believe that trading for younger assets or relying on drafts is the way to build an organization... especially given the owner/gm/coach situation we have... without leadership, a young team will not go anywhere...

i don't think the owner/gm situation can be easily changed, but let's start with the head coach.... jerry sloan's out of a job, jeff van gundy is out of a job, how does Randy man (no wit) keep his!?

regarding nene... dude plays his heart out when he's on the floor, he brings the professionalism that the young guys, including john wall, needs to learn from... i don't understand why people say he's wrong for this team... what was right for this team before he got here?

I think if you get the right young player then he does change the fortune of the team, but he has to be dynamic and with his head in the right place. At the moment the only player I'm really feeling could provide that in this upcoming draft is Shabazz Muhammad because of his scoring ability and I've heard he plays with a maturity and intensity; but I do feel like the Wizards should also consider using the pick to bring in a veteran player; gut feeling is additional veteran help---at the SF positon--- is needed to balance Nene out with all the babysitting he's been doing trying to help the team stay afloat with this young roster. What I don't get is why people don't see how Randy Wittman is a contributor to the disorder and dysfunction you find on offense.

Even if he is a contributor, its a small one. For the most part, players are getting open shots in his offense. The problem is these same players can't throw the ball in the ocean. It ain't his fault that no one on this team can shoot...its the GM.

its E.G. end of story, i mean i've said it many times and ill say it again. if some one with common sense was drafting the last couple of years, we would probably be in the play off's right now. The only year he did anything right in the draft was 2010, i fully think that some one else was running the draft or at least advising back then. he needs to go. bring in some one who can draft and run a team!

Piggy-backing on Pine's TedBlog post I want to start (tonight?) bringing
a poster to the Phone Booth with wording that basically says
Ted has to choose between loyalty to his GM or his fans.
They are mutually exclusive.

No doubt it's Grunfeld's fault for bringing in guys who are mainly good in one area, but I still think Wittman should have these guys playing a certain style of basketball, not just relying on long jump shots. I mentioned a stat to another poster a few days ago; the Wizards are 11th in three pointers attempted, just one spot behind the Miami Heat (this was the stat at the time). The difference? The Miami Heat are number one is three point precentage, the Wizards, next to last. If the team is that poor in an area but the main culprits keep shooting away as though it's a strength then Wittman needs to see that something changes within the offense rather than praising guys who hurt the offense.

Remember the 1st game against the Heat when they won at home? Everyone was raving about the amount of assists the Wizards had in that game, so it goes to show they are capable of playing disciplined basketball. Bigger than shots missed is the lack of discipline they play with on offense. I don't know who but Wittman is to blame for that. Maybe it's time to bench guys for entire games until the message is received, but then again WIttman doesn't seem to have an issue wih Jordan Crawford repeatedly shooting the ball without making a single pass first.

Wittman doesn't rein in Crawford because he is the only one that can hit a shot. Again, even if we had Phil Jackson or Pat Riley coaching this team, the Wizards would still suck. Most of the 3 point and 2 point shots we are getting are open. We just don't have the players to make them.

Criticizing Wittman just takes the attention off of the real problem...Grunfeld.

Like hell it does, everybody knows Grunfeld is the architect of this, Leonsis can't be in doubt anymore. There's nothing to show for with all the 1st round draft picks of the past two years with Wall out. Grunfeld should've been let go before Saunders was let go. No one is illusioned about who built this.

The Wizards don't play with rhythm flat-out and that I believe has a lot to do with their inabilty to make open shots, guys stand around in one spot watching the player with the ball, they bunch up in one spot on the court and create no spacing, they look uninspired. I just don't like Wittman as a leader, the guys may like his personality but I don't think he gets his message across, much like a substitue teacher vs. the actual teacher in a kids classroom.

Seems I remember some posters talking about how Nene in Denver wasn't enough of a leader.

He seemed to embrace the role when he got here. He showed up. They started winning. All was good. Now in one interview he dropped it like a hot Potato and starts pointing fingers at management. Dude need to look in the mirror. His job is more then just bringing it on the court.

Part of making 13M as year and as a vet where you are the best player on the team is being a leader. He needs to step it up and do it. Kevin was supposed to be his puppy that he trains into being a full blow attack dog. He is supposed to be the leader of that front court and until Wall gets back, he is the leader of the team.

Its Randys job to line them up and he has sucked at that most of the year so there is plenty of room to blame Randy. Its also his job to lead the team and also establish the player leadership stuff. Who are the Fing Captains. They need to step it up. Obviously he hasn't worked this out enough given the comment that no one knows who to follow or who is supposed to lead so players are afraid to challenge each other. That's on Randy and if he can't get it done, it on EG.

The leaders of this team have to be Nene, Wall, Webster and Crawford. Did Randy leave the team rudderless with Wall and Nene the Captains while both were injured ? If Randy hasn't established that and he doesn't meet with them, then he is fool. EGs job is to add another one of that personality type. If it is a younger player, fine. They exist. Looks at RG3. If he needs to pull a trade to do it, that works also.

Thats where EG blows it to often. Gil wasn't a good leader but they never turned the team over to CB, AJ and Haywood who were more suited to do it. And EG adds these mush personalities like Trevor A and Okafor. He drafts players like C Singleton and Booker. Sure there is talent there, but they are not real NBA player types. I would rather have a player like Louis Williams for all his flaws. Dude is at least and NBA baller.

EG just seems bad at mixing the right personalities together and doesn't stay away from these athletic mush type like Dom or Jefferies. Kwame was the same thing. Same with OP. Now he has Booker, Singleton, Ves, and Martin.

And he totally blow it letting James Singleton and Mason go. They were both legit NBA player types. Instead he kept the younger talent of Martin who has no balls.

You need to add Lillards, Faried, Crawder types. Hell, I wanted Brooks and Nikola Vucevic in 2011. But where this team need help the most is SF. They have had a gaping hole there since CB left. You can't fill that position much mush year after year and expect to be any good.

Crawford is so not the problem with this team. If they had a team of players with Crawford heart and willingness to leave it all on the court, they would be so much better. Crawford does everything that is asked of him and he has a never give up attitude.

Actually out of Wall, Nene, and Webster which are the only other players who have that kind of leadership stuff in them, Crawford has been the only one that has been healthy and consistently bringing it. Webster needs to step his game up to match his post game interview skills. Nene needs to STFU and lead. Asking Beal to do it is asking to much of a 19 year old but he can be right behind them.

This team sorely lacks that dynamic leadership. Right now. Nene is most suited to do it. He has the personality. He has the cred. He has the game. He needs to get on the same page with Webster, Beal and Crawford and go win some games.

Bring Okafor here I think was a big mistake. I remember his first interview and thinking. This dude thinks he is going to be a leader on this team and I just don't see it. He doesn't have the personality. And Trevor A looked like he was afraid to talk when he was addressed. Ted/EG screwed up. Should have keep James and Dray and Mason.

If you mean "never give up the ball", then I agree with you.

:D

Seriously, nobody doubts Crawford's effort. But the offense grinds to a halt when he's in there and even with all his effort he still ends up with a ton of bad shots.

(Wait a minute...isn't this a Nene thread?)

3-23, on the 7th easiest schedule no less.

I think hands11 just gets a rise out of being a contrarian.

This Wizards team literally has no redeeming qualities right now.

What is frightening is how you could come to that conclusion.

I wasn't defending a 3-22 team. I was pointing out the ignorance of making Crawford the biggest problem they have.
