Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
'nique Wilkins walked past us a couple times while we were hanging
at the the post-game radio show. He looked bigger than I would
have thought and I'm not talking about the pounds he's put on since
retiring.
I was trying to describe (for Jacqui) the battles, generally won by Bird,
btw these guys back in the day.

Unbelievable competition between WIlkins / Bird.

Around the 4 minute mark you even get to see Randy Wittman do a no look pass to a major slam to Wilkins.

So it looks like a co-worker of mine is giving me the hook up on 2 VIP tickets to the Inauguaral Ball. Has anyone ever been to one of these and know what to expect? I gotta wear a tux it looks like, but I'll be there with my girl.

Raf, if it was 2009, you could sell those tickets for a down payment on a new house. I haven't been to one, but my brother went to one with his girlfriend and got engaged soon thereafter. I'm guessing you'll have a good evening.

Does anyone else find it bizarre that these balls are held solely to publicly celebrate someone getting a high paying, semi-guaranteed government position?

*shrugs* I'm just going because it's free and its VIP. Otherwise I wouldn't bother.

fishercob wrote:miller: being a real estate agent can be a great career. But it is hard-ass work, especially while you build your business, which could take several years (5-plus). When a deal blows up or something goes wrong, the agent nearly always gets blamed. It's not personal, just part of the business. You need a thick skin.
You also do a lot of your work when other people aren't (and are thus free to go to open houses, on tours, etc), so that means working most weekends and sometimes evenings. That might not seem like a big deal at all right now (or it may), but may pose different issues if you ever have kids, etc.
As for lead generation, I think some shops give you something. But make no mistake about it: long term, you justify your existence by bringing in business, not just by doing deals. The networking aspect is huge, as are referrals -- you need to know as many people as you can, and they need to see you as an expert who can help them. Developing that market knowledge that makes you an expert will take time too.
Remember, the barriers to entry for people a RE agent are extremely low; nearly anyone can get a license. What distinguishes those who make it from those who don't is a function of what I describe above. Being in a position to take a short-term financial hit, while you invest in yourself and your business, helps a lot.
Let me know if you have other questions. Good luck.
fish, thanks a lot for the advice. I'll definitely take it into consideration. At the moment, I'm all over the place regarding what I want to do with my work life. The one thing I really want to get into (television/radio broadcasting) would potentially require me to move out of state and away from my family which, to me, is a no-go. But I still want to pursue it in the hopes of landing something local.
I'm a mess right now, dude.

Might actually consider going to a Wiz game now that Wall is back, since I can get dirt cheap tickets from my work.

too easy a question on the post-game show last night....who was the tallest player
in NBA history. 77! Ghizta (sp?)
I was pretty sure that was right and got on the air in time to be first
with that answer. Bingo, $50 gift card to Carmine's. Woo-hoo.

That was you?!
Congrats.
I like the way you played around like you didn't know the answer off the top of your head.

That was me, the famous Jacqui's dad
Right away I wanted to say Muresan but I had a lingering doubt
that maybe somewhere, sometime, someone 7-8 (or bigger) once
played in a game. (I still wonder if that's true).
I made the same point as I did in the game thread,
that Ves/Ariza/Temple, a lineup I suspect you have little use for
in a more general situation, did a good job not letting ORL get
any offensive momemtum.

In real life there was a police situation that ended up with a 22-year old soldier who was recently returned from Afghanistan killed by police in Waikiki.
My prayers go out to his family. I pray also for those involved in law enforcement who used deadly force and those who though they stood down endured injury. My prayer also is for justice and lessons to be learned that build a bridge of better understanding moving forward.

Wait, so did he and his former QB turned religious singer friend create this whole thing or was it a catfish situation where he was unknowingly communicating with someone who was not who they said they were?

strange sign on the beltway inner loop just past River Rd
about the inauguration advising folks to use Metro on 1/21. What?
I give pretty good odds that the beltway on 1/21, a holiday
in addition to being the inaugural, will not suffering from
bad traffic. Metro is likely to be a mess, especially down
in the city. It's completely backasswards.

Likely because tons of streets closed/extra security will be downtown. Suspect it means for suburban based government workers commuting into DC.

Yeah, same sign on 270. Even if it was for Federal workers, aren't they off on MLK?

thing is this is miles and miles from downtown...
I'd just about guarantee traffic Monday on the beltway near this sign
will be virtually indistinguishable from any other day, whereas Metro
will be a clusterF#ck on Monday almost system wide.
