Poll: More Trade Value: Dudley/Ellis

Post#1 » by HartfordWhalers » Fri Jan 18, 2013 11:38 pm

Okay, lets see if this is interesting or not... Dudley or Ellis.

Same thing as usual, which one has more trade value, as in could return the better trade package, and not which one you would prefer to trade for.

Dudly 27y/o 12.1ppg, 3.6rpg, 2.8apg in 30.8 mpg. 48.3% fg%, 39.3 3fg%, 60.3% TS%, 16 PER.
4,250,000 / 4,250,000 / 4,250,000 / 4,250,000 (PO)

Ellis 27 y/o 18.9 ppg 3.6rpg 5.4 apg in 35.9mpg 40.1% fg% 24.8% 3fg% 47.6% TS%, 15.6 PER
11,000,000 / 11,000,000 (PO)

As always, feel free to say why, what info should have been listed here, or reject the notion of trade value.

Probably Dudley. He is a solid player on a solid contract. He also has better shooting percentages.

I think Monta's contract situation kind of lowers his value. Also I'm quite shocked at how low Monta's 3pt shooting % is. Wow.

Dudley is a solid player on an awesome contract.
Ellis is a really good, but very one-dimensional, player on a pretty average (for him) contract which could expire this year.

I think a team that thinks they can re-sign Ellis could offer more than anybody would offer, but who knows where Monta wants to play? I know one place where Ellis will not be playing next year: Milwaukee. Brandon Jennings is probably the worst fit for him in the entire league.

Dudley is better even if you disregard the contracts.

Dudley can be an important player on a championship team, Monta Ellis can not.

False.....Im a dudley fan and want the bucks to get him, but if you take out the contracts, Ellis has more value....Only reason Ellis is struggling this year is because of the fit...Look at his best years, he was paired in the backcourt with BD..Ellis needs a bigger PG to be effective.

Ellis
Shaq on Duncan:SA won because of TD, a guy I could never break.I could talk trash to Ewing, get in D-Rob's face, get a rise out of Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored and say:“Hey,Shaq, watch this shot right off the glass.”

Ellis has more value but at that price he will have a lot less "buyers" then Dudley at his cheaper price. Like if you wanted to play the "what draft pick are they worth" game, I think Ellis nets you a higher pick (10-15ish?) but there might be only one or two teams willing to offer that. Dudley may be a 15-25ish pick but there would probably be 5-10 teams willing to pay that price.

Ellis was never effective, he only racked up meaningless volume stats in transition on terrible Warrior teams. No surprise since he is gone the Warriors have their best season in decades

This is easy..You've heard high level players have stated that they wanted to play with Ellis - Howard and Josh Smith to name a couple

You have never heard high level players say they wanted to play next to Dudley

Players are stupid and no reflection of what GM's think. I bet Howard would love to play with a ball dominant low efficiency chucker.

Why the **** would Josh Smith want to play with Ellis. That pairing of low efficiency chuckers... good lord.

The Suns actually might want to see if they can flip Dudley for Ellis. Would give them a go to scorer and a big boost in the talent department. Hed be a better fit next to Dragic than next to Jennings...just a real bad combo there.

Dudley likely has some value to a bunch of smart teams, Ellis has a bunch of value to a small amount of dumb teams.

IMO something close to this. Ellis has the ability to be that 2nd or 3rd "star" on a team. These days, that means a lot.

For example, you take a team that plays good defense, like the Pacers and add on Ellis, while their defense suffers slightly, they now have a guy who they can count on for 20 ppg.

Dudley is a good piece for a team that needs an additional "depth" or a functional piece of a starting 5. Lakers would love to bring him off the bench.

The thing is also this: Dudley has a long contract, and while useful, is viewed as a "role player" Ellis is still in his "prime" and has been considered for all-star teams. Dudley has always been a functional rotation player.

So "more trade value" is handily Ellis in my opinion.

The few teams that are in a position to "buy" Ellis are mostly lame duck teams with enough capspace this offseason to sign him outright anyway. So I doubt any of them would give up a lottery pick to secure him for the next 13 or so weeks.

Dudley is on a long term contract, at about $4-5m per. Given that his production far outweighs s contract, I cannot see how the duration of his deal detracts from his value at all.

Ellis is a free agent this offseason. No one is giving anything of value for him.

He's essentially slightly more valuable than an expiring contract.
