I don't get it. Do you take a real NBA team with it's current roster and are able to trade with other teams? Is there a winning goal, are there points? I read the sign up but I didn't really see the purpose/instructions.

Re: GMAT 2013 Discussion
What's with this salary floor (45 mil)?
How do teams get cap space then?
This is just during the "regular season", I hope

That was my interpretation, since he said during the "trading season"

Re: GMAT 2013 Discussion
Yes, I have emailed Sam Bone and am still awaiting a response on which team he wants.
In real life, there is a salary floor (I believe it's 75-80% of the soft cap). I think we had a salary floor in GMAT some time back, and yes it's only for the regular season.

Yeah you take a real team, and then act as the GM, making trades, signing players, drafting players, etc. There will be playoffs to determine the championships and draft order. At the end of the game the other 29 GMs will grade you on how you did based on your original roster, as in, if Washington and Miami had similar rosters at the end of a game, Washington would get a much better grade since they made more out of much less. We kind of simulate through the 2014 playoffs in the span of about a month and a half. Hope you join us, it's always nice to see new people playing.keondrunk wrote:I don't get it. It's basically where you are the GM of a team. You choose your team and then for 2 weeks make trades with other teams. Then, there is a "playoffs" where you and the other 29 teams rank each other to determine draft order. Then you have a real 2013 NBA Draft where you draft the actual prospects coming out. Then you have FA where you bid on FAs and finally a last trading period. Then to finish off you do another ranking of teams and the winners are announced. It's really fun, but frustrating at times. Just be warned, this takes up all your time. If you don't have the time to do it (like me this game) then don't. The commish would much rather get a committed player than a player that checks every so often or god forbid quits mid season. If you choose to do it though, enjoy! It's a lot of fun.

Ok thanks you 2. I signed up. I'm online a lot everyday so I should be good time wise.
Edit: Do our last year contracts expire and become part of FA?
E.g Calderon this year.

Yup. They do. We're essentially simulating the NBA through June of 2014 only there will be a ton more trades than in real life. Look at some old GMAT game threads over the next few pages to get an idea, but it'll be posted in greater detail closer to that time. You'll pick it up pretty quickly. Anything else, just email me. kfw322 at gmail.com

Will there be actual playoffs this time around or just a collective "ranking"?

Re: GMAT 2013 Discussion
Okay sure lets try new GM's ill agree with that
But "allowing"
why 22 to play is just dumb.
He's started at least 10/12 games and has dropped out, vanished, or have never ever not once that I can remember submitted a write up. There's quite a few people who don't want him playing.
As commish you need to make tough choices. Kees is already out and now Klomp too.
I don't want to have to not sign up cuz were letting a guy get another chance after he has already had 12 chances.

bness888, I didn't realize the extent of his incapability to finish games. I will talk with a couple other GMs I am currently talking to and will likely consider removing him.

Re: GMAT 2013 Discussion
I asked to defer my 'dibs' til the next game following this one, mainly because I wasn't sure if I'm going to have enough time if this starts soon. I assume that's ok (it normally is).
If anyone bails in this game though, get in touch. I'll prob have more time by mid-Feb.

There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

Alternatively - provided it doesn't fall at the weekend - I could be an agent or handle a large chunk of FA.

Question about trades -
I know IRL trades are pretty complicated to succeed. Is GMAT more simplified e.g. :
(
Salary floor: $45,000,000
Soft cap: $60,000,000
Luxury Tax: $75,000,000
Hard cap: $95,000,000
)
Trade of Player X with Player Y
If Team A has a 45,000,000 salary, trades Player X who has a 5,000,000 contract to Team B
Team B has a 95,000,000 salary, trades Player Y who has a 10,000,000 contract to Team A
Does this trade go through?
