OT : Lakers owner Jerry Buss dies at 80

Jerry Buss, longtime owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, has passed away at the age of 80.

Buss had been hospitalized with an undiagnosed form of cancer.

Buss purchased the Lakers from Jack Kent Cooke in 1979.

Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar each visited Buss during his final days.

Sad news. Terrible season for the Lakers.

as a lakers fan...i'm pretty sure i can say on behalf of "most" lakers fans...thanks for your support and sympathy.....i would have thought alot of you guys would be d***heads.....but it's greatly appreciated....go*dam*...now we have to deal with jimmy....

"I had the pleasure of working with Jerry closely for the last 10 years on league matters. He was a wonderful business colleague, brilliant competitor and became a good friend. Although our teams competed in two Finals during that time, the friendship never wavered. He will be greatly missed and the entire Celtics organization offers condolences to the Buss family and Lakers organization."

He had a long life. 80 years is as old as four of his girlfriends combined.

Much respect to the OP for even having this as a topic on your board, even though the Celtics are our long time adversary I gotta say I think it's fitting that the Celtics will get to be on the floor with our fans and team as we give our moment of silence to one of the best owners in sports. I think that's the way it should be, two of the most influential teams in sports standing face to face in a great tribute.

Nothing but respect to the Celtic fans.
