Re: off season moves/discussion thread
I think we're going to be bigger players in free agency this year than we were last year. WR is obviously the biggest need, either in free agency or the draft. We're going to need a more reliable backup if we expect to be a playoff team again next year.

there are the top fa wr's
bowe and wallace will probably want a lot of money, amendola would be nice but the rams won't want to give him up
haha tjax is a free agent, any chance they bring him back as a back up?

I wouldn't be surprised if the Vikings look to spend a lot of money on a top tier WR, either Wallace, Bowe or Jennings. We've been pretty aggressive in the past in terms of filling needs.

loadholt, felton, and kevin williams are the major ones i'd say, henderson and brinkley being next- i like sanford too
i'm not really sold on any of the wr's at this stage (other than wright), and they need to get percy's head on right

I think that's somewhat the nature of the position though. I didn't think Williams was that noticeable when he was All-Pro every year but nobody could run on us. I think Williams is still average to above average.
At least that seems to be his reputation.

we were ranked 11th in run defense, good, but not anywhere close to our Pat Williams years. Grab a couple Samoans, let Williams walk. We need more strength and size up the middle and more speed and athleticism on the edges. Good time to phase out our old big names by letting guys walk and maybe seeing what kind of picks might be available in trade for Allen and/or Greenway too.

Re: off season moves/discussion thread
I'm just concerned losing Williams makes us worse. I'm not sure what we gain by letting him go, of course I'm no cap expert either.
If you had suggested trading Greenway/Allen last year I might have agreed with you, but we just went 10-6 and I don't think it's a good time to take a step back to rebuild the defense. Trading Greenway especially would create a gaping hole with our lack of linebacker depth.

Re: off season moves/discussion thread
i think what is really important this offseason on defense is to build up some depth pretty much everywhere (outside of de)

Re: off season moves/discussion thread
So the Vikes big needs are:
WR, DT, CB.
What do you guys think about a QB like EJ Manuel, Tyler Bray in the 3rd or 4th?
Same question about a RB like Le'Veon Bell, Joseph Randle, Montee Ball to spell AP and keep him fresh?
I think pounding the ball with Bell and AP would quickly wear down a D.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt

I think I'd consider LB a bigger need than CB. Our CB rotation is solid if everyone is healthy, although Winfield is getting up there.

I wouldn't complain. QB is the most important position, and it's not like we have all-pro at the postion. It wouldn't hurt to have someone to develop in case Ponder doesn't work out.

That's supposedly what we drafted Gerhardt for. And if Percy stays he can take a few carries too.

Re: off season moves/discussion thread
we should look at some cbs to have just in case for depth and stuff but linebacker is of more concern considering the contract status of two starters and then not much for depth too
not bothered too much on qb, just get a journeyman vet in fa, and then either put webb or the other guy as the 3rd- if joe doesn't go to 3rd string then he's probably gone unless they really want to work in the read-option next year (even though everyone in the league will be working to stop it)
and i like toby- just expand his role (but if we were to look, i really like rex burkhead)

Re: off season moves/discussion thread
If we were to draft a running back, I think we'd need to look for a guy who can catch out of the backfield. And I don't know if makes much sense, but if Marcus Lattimore slid far enough I 'd probably take him.
