Great post with the Hennigan Q&A, got to love how thorough he and his staff are. also happy to hear he wont be blowing up our cap on marginal players, sounds like AA and BBD won't be here long
aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

While hilarious they are fools. McRob is not that great and now they are only 1 1/2 behind us and could pass us so we could get the most ping pong balls. Joke is on them it seems like.
Also their #2 pick has been very disappointing lately. Hark is thoroughly outplaying him and he was the 15th pick

I cant say i am surprised about MKG, when i first started watching MKG last year, I was perplexed on what it was that made MKG to be thought of as one of the "blue chip" prospects in the draft. Some were calling him the best pure talent in the draft. Personally i thought MKG was extremely overated going into the draft last year, based on the fact that he had no real base skillset to build off of, which to me means you do not have a whole lot of upside on the offensive end and i said so in the draft prospect threads last year.
Here are the per36 raw numbers and advanced stats on the two guys (both 19):
MKG: 12.3pts 7.7reb 2.2ast 1.1stl 1.3blk .499ts% .739ft% 13.6PER 100ortg 110drtg 18.0usg%

Sure would be funny if McBob is the reason why the Magic lock down the worst record.
Anyways, I always felt McBob was better than he showed in Orlando as he showed it in spurts. Now, he may get that chance to start and prove people wrong!

I was surprised he went so high as well because he didn't seem to have actual skills other than being athletic and having a good motor. You don't pick a guy like that 2nd.
Here are their numbers since the all star break:
MKG: 7.9 ppg, 4.8 reb, 43.5% FG%, 63.3% FT%, 0% 3pt FG% (although none attempted), 1.6 apg, 1.1 TO, .7 stl, .8 blk, 25mpg

Seems to me like MKG has regressed a lil since the beginning of the season while Hark has improved quite a bit. I would be concerned if I was CHA fan.

if he wasnt good in Orlando, but was good somewhere else, how would it prove people wrong? If a player isnt doing well on your team, and they arent going to be a future piece, you move them for someone that will do better.
And McRoberts has had opportunities to start (not here), he just couldnt keep the job.

I think you answered your own question. He proved people wrong where he didn't play good by playing good elsewhere. And, I think he could have played better with Orlando but he didn't fit the system here like he did in LA and now Charlotte.

People would know almost exactly what people can do just from looking at the numbers. McBob is playing almost EXACTLY the same way he always had played. The only reason you guys think he is playing better is because he is playing extended minutes.
McBobs career per36 are:
per36: 10.4pts 8.5reb 3.1ast 1.0stl 1.1blk .494fg% .313threes .684ft%
In Charlotte on this stretch as starter
31mins 13pts 10reb 2ast 1stl 0blks
38mins 10pts 9reb 3ast 3stl 2blks
38mins 9pts 10rebs 3ast 2stl 2blks
35mins 17pts 7reb 3ast 2stl 0blks
31mins 12pts 12rebs 3ast 0stl 0 blks
Over this 6 game stint as starter, Thats an average of 32.5mpg 10.8pts 8.3reb 2.3ast 1.3stl 0.7blk,
his shooting as a Bobcats is .482fg% .200threes .667ft%
The numbers tell you what somebody can do ahead of time as long as you give them the playing time to do so. Should not be surprise in this day and age of advanced stats anymore.

I am not. Not sold on him at all. This guy is SCREAMING one year wonder to me.
1st issue is the varience in this year (shooting wise) to just last year and the other years. That coupled with the fact that he doesnt actually shoot very much, To me signals there is an high (or even likely) chance that the numbers are just flukey. Kinda like that season where Marvin Williams was shooting like 45-50% from three....I dont trust it.
2nd issue is i cannot believe for a second that that guy is even 6'3.5" 200lbs tops, let alone being 6'5" 215....There is NO WAY, I dont care what the official site "lists" him as, Use your eyes. If you are 6-2 and i am 5-10 and my drivers id says im 6-3, you are going to believe that just because its what the paper says? Athletic or not, If he is 6-3 or shorter (with no PG skills, Lots say he doesnt even have SG skills) how much upside do you really think he has on this level?
3rd issue is his ball skills, i have seen zero evidence he has any. I feel he can slide by and still do things in the NCAA by athleticism alone, but you need more then that at the pro level.
So, i guess...No, i am not on the Oladipo bandwagon.

I don't know much about him as I haven't been following college basketball so I cant answer that question right now. I do want a major upgrade in athleticism in the PG/SG slots.

that's great news.
Where did you read this news from on Harrington?
Josh Robbins reported it for the Sentinel yesterday after the game. It is very important for the Magic to see what they've got in the 3/4/5 position over the next month before getting to the draft. This is fantastic news.
Not sure what it means for Al, JV said Harrington was able to come back healthy, show people they he can still play, and he's talked to him about benching. Sort of sounds like they're ready to move on, showcased him, and think he's done enough to either get traded or paid off.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt.LII "Lottery/Draft" Edit
Reading a post by Chris Sheridan and came across this
We have four 1st rounders over the next two drafts? We have our own 1st this year, our own 1st next year, and one from Denver next year. Where's the fourth?
But with the promise shown by fellow rookie Andrew Nicholson, emerging second-year center Nikola Vucevic and trade acquisition Tobias Harris and four first-round picks over the next two drafts, the Magic have the pieces in place to rebuild quickly.

So, i guess...No, i am not on the Oladipo bandwagon.
he's not an iso/go-to scorer by any means, but he's good at what he does - defense, running the break, slashing/cutting to the hoop, and being able to get shots off from those moves to the hoop (by having the athleticism to go over them, and the body to absorb contact and still get a shot up). but yeah, his handle is terrible. it's like watching a kid from the 20's pushing a rolling hoop with a stick!
since shooting is a skill you can improve, i don't think it's unlikely he's actually improved that. all he needs is for defenses to respect his shot enough to stay up on him, so that he can use his athleticism to get into the paint.
IMO, he could be Maggette without the height, but with the defense. if his wingspan is big enough, he should still be able to guard tall 2's. heck, Tony Allen was used on Durant for stints. Oladipo's maximum 30mpg aren't going to be all against 6'8 SGs.
to me he's like Harkless, i don't think he's a star in the making, but i think he's the kind of guy that could be a long term role player - but he's got some good upside on offense to build off.

This is why I have hope for our future. There are still a lot of dumb GMs out there who would rather keep their jobs by going with the crowd rather than being the guy who goes against the narrative. If our GM and scouts are 10% better than the competition in regards to player evaluation, we will turn this team around in no time.
