I'm only mildly interested in Noel; w/ his thin frame, I don't think we see #1 pick returns for at least 3 years.

Yea I really don't see them getting Shaka, think that's wishful thinking. Hell, it was a miracle they got Tubby at the time, I think it will be pretty hard to get a big name who isn't desperate.

One thing that the Gophers have going for them is the fact that the Big 10 is essentially the basketball equivalent of SEC football.

Honestly, I've only started watching college hoop since March Madness started. I am really not impressed with McClemore. Does he have like, zero handles? I'm trying not to judge him based on scoring alone, but rather other minor stuff like handles, defense, intelligence, aggressiveness. It's a bit concerning. I'm intrigued by his tall stiff teammate Withey though. Wouldn't mind picking him up in the early 2nd round as a replacement for our tall stiff guy Steamer.

I agree. The gophers coaching job isn't exactly a hot commodity. And I don't see any up and coming coaches leaving their spots. I hope the next coach can keep Tyus jones in state, but I just don't see that happening.

The Gophs job was a pretty good job, but two big name coaches have now come to MN after the Clem Haskins scandal only to crash and burn. I'd imagine a coach who is drawing interest would be thinking about that when making a decision. Promises were made to Tubby that weren't kept. Another factor that prospective coaches would think about. I'd bet we're getting a guy like Kill. A guy who's done well but nothing spectacular at the mid-major level and is a long shot to become a great coach. Sometimes those guys pan out though.

Flip isn't that bad and I saw him talking to Tyus Jones after the state title. Anyone who can get Tyus to Minnesota is worth hiring.

I think Flip would be a fantastic choice for the Gophers. Gophers are never going to get the elite recruits, but if Flip can recruit the guys for his system, he can build something good. Flip's failures aren't that bad - fired when Sam and Spree went mutiny on the Wolves, fired when the 60 win Pistons - notorious for their lack of urgency and always thinking their going to flip that switch - fizzled out against the champion Celtics, and fired for not being able to turn Arenas/Jamison/Foye/Mike Miller/Blatche/Nick Young into a playoff team.

In retrospect, those teams all did about what I'd expect. That Pistons team was not better than the new big 3 Celtics team and those Wolves and Wizards teams were at zero chemistry.

NORWOOD TEAGUE: We are going to look for the right fit for the program. Doesn't have to be the candidate that everybody thinks we should get. It's going to be the right fit for our student athletes.
If we live in the past, we are going to get drug down by the fast. We have to look forward and we have to work hard while looking forward and be encouraged by that.

Q. How do you think this will affect recruiting? They have recruited these kids for two years and they have the best crop in the State of Minnesota. I know Ron Jirsa had a fantastic relationship with Jones, and remember the family told me if Minnesota had a chance to get him, because of that. Now your new guy comes in, he might not get a guy, and you've got to start all over with these guys, and the Mike Krzyzewskis and the Tom Izzos (Klomp's editorial note: pronounced it EYE-zo) and all these people have recruited these guys all this time, and now you're going to bring in a fresh guy to compete with those guys.

NORWOOD TEAGUE: Well, it's my intention to bring in somebody that will compete
