Reggie's new offense fueled by insult from teammate

Post#1 » by Paradise » Fri Mar 29, 2013 4:28 am

Via Bondy:

"I got frustrated one day when one of my teammates told my coach to take me out the game. I bit my tongue. I didn't say nothing to (my teammate)," Evans said.

"But me, knowing me, I usually attack and say something. I bit my tongue. I said, 'Ok.' I said, 'Alright, start being aggressive.' So I took it in a positive way, instead of just doing my normal self, like 'What you say? What you say?"

What's more alarming? The fact, Reggie probably has a little beef with this teammate or the fact PJ has to be approached by a player to tell him to take out Reggie?

I hope that teammate was Deron, but I'm not expecting it.

He'd be the one guy who could say that and get away with it.

Other than Deron the only guys I could see having the balls to say something like this would be Crash, Stackhouse or maybe Watson.

Well glad someone sparked a fire under his ass. He went from horrendous to useful. Keep it up Reggie.

Not surprising. Reggie may be useful in some ways but he also makes life VERY difficult for guys like Deron. He's definitely the one that voiced his displeasure.

Evans is an idiot.

He's basically saying this as a pat on his own back about how he turned a team mates criticism into a positive.

Well guess what numb nuts, you just caused more problems for the team by telling the world information that should be kept in house.

Everyone knows it was D Will who complained to PJ about Evans being a liability. Just because Evans had 1 outstanding game doesn't mean he's arrived.

If I were playing against Brooklyn I'd love Evans to be attempting those left hand hook shots all the time. The fact it worked for Evans against the worst interior defence in the league will probably lead to Evans attempting more shots which isn't a good thing.

Evans is selfish and an idiot.

It's an embarrassment that Williams had to go up to this MORON Carelessimo to tell him something that would be obvious to a blind man

I don't care if he dominated against a garbage team. When he gets worked by Faried tonight then what will he say?

Evans isn't the problem at the end of the day, the coaching staff enables his idiocy.

I hope in the playoffs, Deron and Joe freeze him out of the offense. I'd rather Humphries start. He gives us the same amount of energy with less idiocy. Defensively it won't make a bit of difference, and I'd rather seee hump finish around the rim or make the short jumper than to watch Evans pretend that he has any semblance of an offensive game.

This season can't end soon enough

Reggie Evans has been straight ballin' the last month.

I cant listen to everyone's biased opinion of Reggie anymore. I dont care if your from Bosnia or part of Hump's entourage, give this man credit. Evans is approaching all time rebounding rate records that only Dennis Rodman has bested.

Dont whine about stealing rebounds from other players. I wish everyone fought as hard as Evans for a rebound. It's not "your" rebound until it's in "your" hands. Lopez should adopt Evans "they are all mine" mentality when going for rebounds. Rebounding is one of the few areas in basketball where being selfish is a GOOD thing.

Dont try and say any of our bigs are as good as Evans defensively either. Evans is by far a better defender then Tele, Hump, Blatche or Lopez and truth is it's not even close.

I understand people want to watch high scoring, offensive games but that doesnt carry over to the playoffs. Defense and rebounding is paramount in the 2nd season and Evans will be a vital part of any success we have in the playoffs. Floor spacing is a problem but that is due to Wallace's inability to hit a jumper, not because we dont have a jump shooting PF. Look at the other playoff contenders and you wont see 3pt specialist at PF.

Much of the board has you on ignore anyway so you don't have to listen to them either. Everyone has been positive on Evans's recent strong play as well.

As for the stealing rebounds thing, there's selfish stupidity that comes into it such as causing a turnover when fighting for a rebound with Deron Williams.

No one here wants him to shoot 3-pointers, but when you have a rebounding-Jason Collins without the man defense, it was frustrating to watch the offense constantly playing a man down. To that effect, his defense has improved somewhat and he can now catch and finish a bit better (though there are still times he dribbles and creates nothing after an offensive rebound or simply can't finish a play under the basket). But when he does score (even just from free throws), it helps the team out immensely on the offensive end.

 I love how DWOTG talks about bias, when he was flat out ignoring Evans' awful playing leading up to this month while looking for every excuse to bash Teletovic.

Most Net fans love Evans' desire and hard play, it's just that he does a lot of dumb things out there and was better served as the 2nd team PF off of the bench to infuse energy into the line up.

Humphries fits in better with the first unit. He is at least capable of hitting the short J, finishing at the rim, and he'll gasp, block a shot or two, something Evans is incapable of.

For every turnover Evans caused fighting for a rebound he has created 10 extra offensive possessions with an O-Board.

People would rather have Tele out there missing shots because of "floor spacing" then have Evans play. Did anyone watch Chicago beat Miami. They did it on the glass and playing physical. Evans is the only guy on the team I can see who would use a flagrant foul to send a message.

I hope he doesn't think he should start taking 13 shots a game now because of one hot night.

He started getting pissed in the 2nd half Wednesday when Gerald and Deron ignored him and kept feeding Brook

which is why Deron and Reggie high fived in the middle of the play and the crowd booed lol

Listen I was more excited to get Reggie than Joe because I know he would have been the perfect piece against Boston, NY, Miami which are weak on the glass. I still want him here.

I get he is on pace to have the best rebound season since Rodman but he is not a starting quality player. His best defensive play with LA came next to Martin and he and Martin both covered the pick and roll very good off the bench and they won Game 7 by locking down the Grizz frontcourt but again, it was off the bench.

he does not have the energy to cover pick and rolls and rebound at 25 minutes per game.

Any coach knows this but ours.

I think it was Deron and that high five during the game made it all better.

It is short sighted to say that reggie just had 1 good game... since the chicago go, where he came out and said "I need to start shooting more", he has been much better. No, he didn't put up 20 points, but he has shot 51% from the field in the 10 games since then(and thats NOT counting the portland game) and has had just 4 shots blocked in that span(much better then what had been happening prior.

No thats not super impressive, but it is a really big improvement. And it certainly is a big help when he can catch and finish or draw a foul instead of fumbling it, turning ti over, or being indecisive and having it blocked.

not saying it warrants him playing 30 minutes, but he has been much better since he became more aggressive, and it has helped our overall play.

also, this stuff about "he needs to keep this in house" or saying this will somehow divide the team. im not buying that, this is a non issue

At this point in the season with 11 games left I have no time for finger pointing or placing blame on any of our players or coach...I'm not happy with several things about this Nets team but now we have to come together and root for everyone on this team including PJ, Evans, Steakhouse, Humphries, MarShon, Teletovic, Bogans and the rest of the gang.

After the season is over we can then point fingers and chop off heads.

But who knows...maybe we win it all !

And how many times has he been a complete negative on the offensive end on those offensive boards? Forget about Chicago beating Miami, if offenses can double (or triple with Wallace not even making open layups) Deron, Brook, or Joe it is an absolute nightmare for those three or when they're playing with the bench. Regular season or playoffs against any team, that is a horrendous disadvantage. A lot rides on Evans catching the ball alone then finishing or drawing a foul and making free throws. If he's no threat at all like he was a month ago, this team will go through boneheaded runs/losses like it did/does no matter how many rebounds Evans stat-pads and especially with the coaching the Nets have.
