Terrence Crawford handles both Rios and Alvarado. I'd love that guy to go back down to lightweight though and fight like a Raymundo Beltran/John Molina as a next level fight before a title shot. Top Rank's potential fights at 140-147 have gotten a lot better with Crawford/Allakhverdiev and Provodnikov under Banner.
Alvarado surprised me in this fight, he outboxed Rios in the first fight too but was still forced to trade with him which caused that KO loss. The Abril fight might it very obvious that Rios ain't the hardest guy to outbox and the first Alvarado fight as well, but I didn't think Alvarado was good enough to consistently box for a full 12. Rios got problems too because when Alvarado started busting him up from the outside the guy had absolutely zero adjustments, he just comes forward and there's nothing else

Incredible performance by Alvarado. I thought he was done in round 2 but he kept fighting back and in round 3, let Rios know that he ain't going anywhere. Went back and forth until about the 8th when you could sense that Alvarado was starting to make adjustments and kept up with his movement. Rios was truly outboxed in the last few rounds and I had it 116-112 for Alvarado. Can't wait until the trilogy.

Got home late, but caught a replay on HBO West. That was a very entertaining fight and Rios acting the way he did was understandable since it was his first loss. A third fight at Mile High is a huge advantage to Alvarado though. I'm actually willing to wait for a third. They both took some huge shots in this one.

Re: Boxing Thread 3.0
Wait as in give these guys time to recover and make this one later in the summer, rather than July, or take an interim bout before the trilogy? I think the latter wouldn't be a good decision, which is what they might be leaning toward from what I've read. Alvarado and Rios are not the type of fighters that are ever in "easy" fights. These guys have been in a lot of grueling battles, seemingly every fight I've seen of theirs for the most part LOL. I think it would be smart to make the trilogy next for both of them but give them some time to recover. I think September would be good.

September is too soon. Perhaps around December or early next year. Give them interim fights around August or September, and then take it from there.
Anyway, awesome fight. I would love to see Prov fight one of these two down the line.

As long as they take a good amount of time off, then bouts to get warmed up and then a third fight I'm fine with it. And it should only be 1 fight in between. I don't want Arum to Gamboa-Lopez this one.

I don't want to see a third.
What would be novel about it? Rios couldn't make the slightest adjustment this fight and is too stubborn and busted-up cognitively to learn anything new. The only thing he'll bring different will be a loss of reflexes.
Alvarado now knows he can do what is necessary, he will come back having analyzed the tapes and having honed his strategy. Rios's heart can't get bigger, so what does he bring?

Re: Boxing Thread 3.0
And Gatti completely outclassed Ward in the 2nd fight with his boxing skills, the 3rd fight was still a great one. Can't forget either that Rios almost got him out of there with a jab.
It's pretty much the same thing as Ward and Gatti.
Ward/Rios will usually get the best out of exchanges
Gatti/Alvarado are superior boxers
Ward/Rios are packing pure steel in their chins so you deal with them the whole way
Gatti/Alvarado are not good enough boxers to completely avoid their opponent for a full 12
Gatti/Alvarado are more than willing to trade punches

Neither fighter needs the brain trauma for a fight we can easily predict (and two previous ones we can simply re-watch).
Gatti's post-boxing life included depression, alcohol abuse, drug overdoses (possibly suicide attempts), domestic violence, and early death. His brother and many experts cited brutal losses and brain trauma as a major reason behind all of this.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

But we are talking about Bob Arum here. He'll milk these two for every $ possible.

The Macau card today was awesome and add the FNF card with that sweet KO and you got a great appetizer for the next couple of weeks. Donaire/Rigo then Trout then Martinez then Mayweather, a great couple of weeks coming up in boxing

Not really impressed with Shiming's debut as a professional. He lunges a lot, swings wildly, and leaves himself too wide open to get countered. He's gotta leave that amateur stuff at the door or else he's going to get KO'ed down the line when he faces stiffer competition.

Re: Boxing Thread 3.0
Only caught the Estrada/Viloria fight, the other one I wanted to watch I tuned in too late(Martinez/Magdaleno) but I heard solid reviews about that fight. I felt that 2 of the judges got it correct, Estrada really wore down Viloria in the championship rounds and had him winning 8-4. The 115-113 Viloria card was such BS. I was impressed with Estrada against Chocolatito Gonzalez several months ago and now today against Viloria.

Re: Boxing Thread 3.0
There's always that one judge(sometimes two) that's watching a different fight than everyone else. Crap like that is what gives boxing a bad rep. How anyone could call the fight for Viloria is beyond me.
