Re: Official 2013 NBA Draft Thread
In theory you should almost always try to draft the most talented player available. But we really do need a SF, and one that plays good defense. All they have to be able to do is spot up shoot a deep 2, or 3. Get a fella who is capable of hitting 2-5 from the 3 point line, and just a hair better on any other uncontested shot.
I'd like to see the Kings try to move Thorton due to his contract going to over 8 million next year. Maybe we should be open to trading someone like Thorton + pick to get higher in the draft to get whatever SF we think is best in the draft, or trading the pick and someone else for a quality SF.
Normally I would say draft the fella who is the best player period, but we can't seem to get any SF progress here at all, and would bite the bullet and draft for need this time around.
Kings contracts here if you fellas want to look anyone up

Always go for BPA or trade the pick to fill in roster hole.

At this point our cluster cluck of a team...
Well, it defies logic I am afraid, but till this season I would have stood by this 100%, now I am not so sure.

Our biggest hole could be at PG, SG, SF, PF, or C depending on who the new GM wants to move forward with so I am for BPA.
As far as players go, Noel is really the only one who interests me. 2-10 are all nearly interchangeable for me.

I rather not count my chickens before they hatch until I know for sure there will be a Sacramento Kings on Draft Night.

Re: Official 2013 NBA Draft Thread
I've never been so disinterested in a draft like I am those season. Hopefully, after the BOG chooses Sacramento, and the Maloofs hopefully sell the team to the new ownership group, I will once again regain interest in this team.

IT is a good player but Jerry Reynolds and co. need to realize what he is. Yes, he's better than what many claim him to be, but in the end, just like Jason Thompson at PF next to Cousins, they're only blown away when he's taking the majority of the shots in the offense. I don't know, could be wrong but I wouldn't base my offense around Thomas, I'd probably stick with that big fella who looks to have untouchable offensive talent if put in the right position to succeed. There is a reason Tony Douglas, Patrick Patterson, and Cole Aldrich are such a fresh breath of air, they are role players who stick to their roles and fill needs for this team with or without the ball. Now if they want to put IT in a consistent position to be option B or C in the offense then by all means, build around that, but as is this season has been no surprise to anyone with a hint of basketball knowledge.
Right now two players I'd like to see the Kings draft if they stay in the 6-8 range of the draft are Anthony Bennett or Alex Len. Not a lot of great wings or guards in this draft and the ones that are will be long gone by pick 5. Bennett is another Patterson type big who can spread the floor but has some interesting wing skill but can rock the rim like Jason Maxiell used to a few years back. Len could be a nice back up plan if Cousins eventually wants out.

How is Burke's defense/playmaking ability? Haven't seen much from him beside the tournament.

Re: Official 2013 NBA Draft Thread
Burke should get a look but he should be down the big board a tad. Smallish guards without freakish athletic ability that prefer to gun tend to do well in the NBA but they rarely live up to the hype. I think one could argue the Kings have a smaller version of Burke in Thomas already, at least with the role Thomas has had in the last month or so.

What is the difference between Burke & Isaiah?

I was about to post the same thing lol. The more I watch Burke the more I am reminded of Isaiah. Burke might have a slight edge in leaping ability but otherwise they are both very similar (crafty miniature combo guards).

I wouldn't be so sure on the leaping ability...I know you've seen some of Isiah's blocks on bigger guys in the nba. The guy is shorter, but im willing to beat he has close to if not the same vertical leap as Burke.

I was also thinking of the Isaiah and Burke comparison while watching the game last night. They are very similar players so picking Burke wouldn't make much sense.

Re: Official 2013 NBA Draft Thread
I agree that Burke's stock might be too high now but his value to the Kings might be understated if you think of him as IT v. 2. Burke's like 5-6 inches taller and has elite decision-making skills. He also posted a PER of 29 this year (versus the 23 that IT posted as a junior) and he had substantially better advanced stats for assists and TOs.

Re: Official 2013 NBA Draft Thread
updated OP with pre lottery draft order.
Worst case is Kings draft 9th.
Kings are probably within the Burke/Oladipo/Zeller/Muhammad range right now.

But if you consider the ever present rigged lottery conspiracy theory........
you get this
Assuming Ranadive and his who's who of computer billionaires with innovative ideas on how to run a winning sports franchise; gets the nod from Stern and the BOG
In the interest of proving they did the right thing and to give these guys a head start; the Kings win the lottery and Noel is playing beside Cousins as the sorely needed shot blocker this team needs or they do a sign and trade of Reke for more of a pass first PG; maybe all of the Rondo desirees on the board can get their wish of a Reke/Rondo deal who would mesh well with McLemore.
