Dieng is going to have problems with his body turning pro, anyway, unless Louisville win it all this year, he isnt leaving.

Doubt it ,he is already 23 and his stock is probably gonna be better this year than the next since this draft is widely considered weaker

Dengs development has been terrific in terms of both physical growth and skill development. Physically he's well on his way for the NBA. From a skills standpoint he's defensively primo. Offensively he's developed a nice 18 footer, he's a solid passer and he's shown good ability to play the pick and roll. And based on interviews as well as comments from his teammates he seems like a pretty smart and (more importantly) hardworking guy. Seems like he knows what it's going to take for him to make an impact at the next level and is focused on getting there. He's one of the guys that I would like the Knicks to look at with their pick depending on what happens with their "older" bigs with their 1st round pick.

Is there a bigger 1st round talent in this draft in terms of weight and strength?

i love his ability to defend in space. he's the type of back line defender that teams covet. he can move his feet laterally, cover ground with his length and he can bother shots without leaving the floor.

He's great. He's such a smart player and has come a long way in his shooting and passing. Pitino started to encourage him to shoot the ball more as of late and he's done so with good results. Keep in mind he's had to play with a cast on for much of the year. And then his passing...its top notch for a center. He's not a guy who can hold position in the paint and utilize is passing that way unfortunately, but his passing will still be useful. His lack of a back to the basket game/strength is still a concern. But since we're talking about a late first round pick here, thats perfectly ok. He's done a really good job gaining size at this time at Louisville. If anything, he's underrated. I think he is just as good, if not better than Plumlee. His ability of defense certainly outranks him and he's a better shooter.

The most interesting thing about him is not only is he an interesting prospect, he's an interesting guy. He'll be graduating this year, speaks multiple language, and is very into his studies. He spends just as much time studying as he does working on his game, but has a very strong work ethic in both - like Oladipo. He's a very high character guy who teammates and fans absolutely love. Only question I have with all of this is, whether his complete interest will be on basketball and his ability to play with a mean streak. I dont think his only dream is to become an NBA player

Great end to the season for Dieng, he made himself some money tonight.

He's so underrated offensively, other than his jumpshot and passing, his post scoring looks just fine to me because he's such a fluid and natural player. Really think this guy is just a stellar prospect, great harmony of physical tools, skills and intelligence for a PF/C

Can see Boston going for him, seems like a very nice player who would do very well under the right tutelage/system.

Though Boston also has Fab Melo but I don't think he has played a single NBA game yet

He's already 23 but would be great for a contender off the bench. I can see some team out there trading up into the late teens for him.

Don't think he would have been drafted in the lottery anyway...possible late teens, early twenties at the most

His stock wouldn't drop that much if he returns....yes,next year's draft is deeper and he'll be 24,but he'll still probably get a late first round selection at worst

If he did tell a reporter that, it was in the heat of the moment after winning a National Championship. once the euphoria subsides, he will stick to his original plan.

I'm sure that he will enter the Draft, he is old and needs to start his professional career. Won't gain anything by staying at Louisville for his senior year.

Unless of course he wants an education. Being from Senegal, the education might mean a lot to him. His stock can't go lower if he stays, barring injury. If he uses it to work on his game, he might increase it. But who knows.

Hasn't he already pretty much aced college? I think he should come out and I think he's more than just a rotation player off the bench. The size, ability to block shots, and rebound...Add that to the work ethic and the smarts for the game and you have a starting big. He's not going to dream shake anyone but he's got a nice 12-16 foot J and a hook down low.

Agreed

At the very least I think he is a Taj Gibson type player(who also cam into the league old)....solid big off the bench for a very good team(starting material big for a not very good team)

I've been really scouting Dieng recently. The thing that stands out when you first look at his numbers is that he is a stat sheet stuffer. The guy gets rebounds, blocks, assists, steals, and points even with a limited offensive game. The thing that is most impressive about these stats is that he is not actively going to for any stats, but just appears to get these steals and blocks within the flow of the game. The funny thing with Dieng is that his upside is a bit of a mystery. Dieng is rather new to basketball, and hasn't been playing the sport for a long period of time. No more than 4 years, I believe. I can't tell if he could be an allstar, I highly doubt it though. But one thing is for sure, he is different than Soloman Alabi or any of the African busts who make it to the NBA just based on size. With regards to rebounding he is an about an 7.5 out of 10. He is no Dennis Rodman, but he does a really great job on the boards. Dieng raises his arms straight up which allows him to impact rebounds that he might not be able to get. For example, against Oregon, Dieng was able to bat rebounds away from the great rebounding of Kazemi due to his fundamentals. Defensively the most impressive part of his game if that he is able to shuffle his feet to stay with smaller guards. His awareness is also pretty great due to the fact that he is always scanning the floor. He is aware of were the ball is and his man. There are only a few question marks about his game. The guy will have a role in the NBA, but how good can he be? Specifically offensively. He does seem to have a grasp of what needs to happen on offense. He is a solid and willing screener, but he does have a limited repertoire. The other issue is that in a few games, he utterly disappears. I'm not really sure why. I think he will be a solid starter or at the very minimum, a solid back-up.
There are only 4 guys that can be unjustifiably taken in front of him. Lens, Olynyk, Gobert, and Austin. If Zhelin declares, then I would take him over Dieng, but that is highly unlikely.
