Do you blame D'Antoni for Kobe's injury?
A bunch of Knicks posters and D'Antoni haters are blaming Mike for playing his stars too much, i.e. Kobe, and precipitated this devastating injury.
What say you?
What say you?

Re: Do you blame D'Antoni for Kobe's injury?
After Kobe started favoring his foot late in the third, we all saw Vitti's reaction of concern and outrage. D"Antoni ignored him, Kobe kept playing on that foot and tore his Achilles. As a coach you have certain responsibilities. You can't just say hey it's Kobe, he didn't want to be taken out, so D'Antoni had to keep him in. What's the point of him being the coach then? What's the point of having a team Doctor if you ignore his advice? The announcers for the game wanted him out, the guy was hobbling around for a full quarter and a half, and here was kobe going on his 45th minute when he finally tore his Achilles completely.

Worst coach I have ever seen. He's trash!! But props goes out to Jim Buss for hiring this guy. One season of Buss taking over this team and look where we're at.

I haven't corroborated this, but the following is allegedly from Kobe's Facebook page:

http://nbadraft.net/forum/its-not-dantonis-fault
This is such BS! All the training and sacrifice just flew out the window with one step that I've done millions of times! The frustration is unbearable. The anger is rage. Why the hell did this happen ?!? Makes no damn sense. Now I'm supposed to come back from this and be the same player Or better at 35?!? How in the world am I supposed to do that??
I have NO CLUE. Do I have the consistent will to overcome this thing? Maybe I should break out the rocking chair and reminisce on the career that was. Maybe this is how my book ends. Maybe Father Time has defeated me...Then again maybe not! It's 3:30am, my foot feels like dead weight, my head is spinning from the pain meds and I'm wide awake. Forgive my Venting but what's the purpose of social media if I won't bring it to you Real No Image?? Feels good to vent, let it out. To feel as if THIS is the WORST thing EVER! Because After ALL the venting, a real perspective sets in. There are far greater issues/challenges in the world then a torn achilles. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, find the silver lining and get to work with the same belief, same drive and same conviction as ever.
One day, the beginning of a new career journey will commence. Today is NOT that day.
"If you see me in a fight with a bear, prey for the bear". Ive always loved that quote. Thats "mamba mentality" we don't quit, we don't cower, we don't run. We endure and conquer.
I know it's a long post but I'm Facebook Venting LOL. Maybe now I can actually get some sleep and be excited for surgery tomorrow. First step of a new challenge.
Guess I will be Coach Vino the rest of this season. I have faith in my teammates. They will come thru.
Thank you for all your prayers and support.
Much Love Always.

Re: Do you blame D'Antoni for Kobe's injury?
I want Dantoni fired TODAY. And Jim Buss needs to say something man. Alot of this started from him stuborness to hire Phil and refusal to make roster moves. We literately have 4 players onn the bench that done even play

No, I don't believe it's D"Antoni's fault. This one goes on the Lakers management. MDA has no authority over Kobe. Onlu Phil and Fisher could have slowed Kobe down and told him to rest. I think he would only listen to them. Hiring MDA was wrong from the start. But lets face it the Lakers were not going to win the title this season. Imagine if the Lakers had the best record this season and were on their way to the Finals and then this happened. That would be much worse. But knowing Kobe he will come back on the same level just to prove all the haters wrong. With Kobe healthy, a resigned D12 and a couple of bench additions the Lakers could be title contenders next season.

posted this in the other thread, words from kobe's trainer.
not sure why people always try to blame someone. ish sometimes just happens.

I agree here.
I completely understand the reluctance of some to blame D'antoni since you never want to blame a coach's decisions for a horrible injury to a player, but if you watched the game last night it's really hard not to put a hefty portion of the blame squarely on MDA's shoulders. Of course Kobe could of taken himself out, but it's the HC's job to listen to their trainer and override a star player's decision to stay in when you're that banged up.
This wasn't just a freak accident as most achilles are, this was something that had been building over the course of the game and likely the last few weeks of Kobe pushing his body each night averaging around 45 mpg. He had two fairly major leg injuries before the achilles, both of which should of required resting on the bench but MDA stood their reactionless with Vitti in his face pleading his case to get him out.
Matt Barnes tweeted it, and most should be able to admit it at some point, "Shame they ran him into the ground". MDA is as good as gone at this point, and this is another black eye on Jim Buss' questionable start as the owner of the team. It's going to take a private "Mea Culpa" from Buss to Phil Jackson to quickly turn this franchise around, not many other options out there will do.

Re: Do you blame D'Antoni for Kobe's injury?
At first I thought hmm okay Dantoni should be at least monitoring his minutes. As time went by, I saw that Kobe was playing 40+ min. almost every game. Then yesterday happened and I saw Kobe holding his knee on the ground I thought okay maybe he needs to rest a little bit, I saw him get up and then I thought okay he's good to go then when he got the cramp in his leg I said to myself okay this is where Kobe is getitng a little to fatigued and could cause a major injury and then finally the achilles torn.
I mean if a mere person like me or any other person saw that Kobe was fatigued why couldn't Dantoni understand he was tired? Dantoni would risk his most valuable star's well being and health for a the 8th seed? If we accomplish the feat, what then? Are we going to miraculously make a deep run with the **** defense that Dantoni' preaches? This guy is a pure and utter failure and I hope he never gets a coaching gig anywhere for the rest of his life.
I have so much hate towards Dantoni that if i ever see him in the streets....Let's just say liquid pringles will be the only food he will be drinking/eating.

Because we watched a game where a strained 34 year old(who was visibly tired from the start of the game) was kept in after two seperate leg injuries to the point where his body finally gave out?
I don't understand why people act like this was a freak accident, it was bound to happen when you put that much pressure on the human body. The human will can only take you to the body's breaking point, which is what Kobe's will did last night. It's the HC"s job to manage his star players minutes and health, regardless of how much clout that player has over you.

Re: Do you blame D'Antoni for Kobe's injury?
One injury yes if he can play through it, but after the second one specially when G.Vitti shows concern and even address it I dont give a hoot who you are! As a coach he needed to step in and pull Kobe out. Period.
Do you actually think Kobe is going to blame coaching staff or anyone else??

I want Phil to have some power in this franchise. Maybe take Jim's spot and make Jim a ballboy or some **** I don't care about that guy. Jeanie and Phil should be running the show...
Mike Brown is 1000 time better than this clown of a coach Dantoni...

Re: Do you blame D'Antoni for Kobe's injury?
After being injured twice in one quarter including that very foot, I don't see at all how you one can come to the conclusion that the third injury is just bad luck and not the fault at all of the coaching staff for keeping him in while ignoring the team doctor.

Re: Do you blame D'Antoni for Kobe's injury?
It's well known that the body will compensate for other injuries and sometimes expose you to something else. We saw the early issues (which may or may not have to do with minutes) and we saw Viti letting MD know, while MD sat there with that petulant look on his face. I believe those who say no one could have pulled Kobe from the game are completely incorrect. I think he would have argued, but that is the coaches job and kobe would have thanked him for it later. I hated Brown, but I feel positive he would have yanked Kobe and we would be bitching about the loss of the game instead of the player.
So yeah, I blame MD and I don't want him to continue coaching after this season.

Do they pin it on Kobe's previous 2 injuries that same game?

Re: Do you blame D'Antoni for Kobe's injury?
i blame MDA.
As a headcoach, you cant just bend over to your star player.... Challenge him FFS, don't let him run himself to the ground even though its Kobe. Try to buy him a couple minutes here and there, especially after going down twice hard in the game. The man is hurt and fatigue...
I never understood the sudden hiring of MDA over PJ and I never will.

dont think its all D'antoni's fault. We do need a coach that will be better at managing minutes.

Re: Do you blame D'Antoni for Kobe's injury?
So what is it, miss the playoffs and Kobe rests up for the start of next season? Or make the playoffs by sacrificing Kobe and have him rest and recover for the start of next season?
If you want to hold people accountable, then start with the people who assembled the roster and gave up everything for a starting five and no depth, and who hired the guy in the first place.
