The Official 2013 Nets Offseason Thread

Post#1 » by Rich Rane » Sun May 5, 2013 4:25 am

With the Nets elimination at the hands of the Chicago Bulls, the Nets's offseason has begun. jj and I ask that you please keep all trade ideas, free agent signings, front office movement, and offseason ideas to this thread and draft talk to the other stickied thread. Thank you.

We desperately need a new head coach...but I'll be honest, I don't think PJ should completely go. He's fine as an assistant. The players connect with him and respect him. That's important. But he shouldn't be the one calling the shots...I want a coach with creativity on offense, a coach that won't lazily depend on calling ISOs 90% of the time, a coach that understands floor spacing, a coach that understands how to best utilize his players, a coach that understands which lineups work and which don't, and a coach that isn't afraid to get into players when they're out there dogging it. PJ is not that guy.

I'd LOVE SVG as the head coach, but considering how he's already said that he doesn't want the job, and considering how he's had a bad experience with one prima donna star already, I don't think he'd look forward to coaching D-Will.

JVG, OTOH, is just a better version of Avery/PJ. No thanks.

I don't care what these "experts" say....PJ is a terrible coach and terrible job. why? simple. We are the only team that starts 3 of the five guys that will play consistently in the fourth quarter. How do you get continuity in crunch time. What message does that send the team overall

PJ
Evans
Wallace
Bogans
Stackhouse

all must go...we need speed, youth and athleticism around our big 3.

We need a coach that will implement no layup rules...or you sit in the playoffs.

Why didn't we just convert the threads that we already offseason and draft threads to the official stickied ones?

Ah yes, I forgot to mention that in both threads. I could merge topics you post or we could simply start fresh.

I think we should merge them, since there was a lot of good material in them (especially the draft one) that would be valuable to keep.

Is Doc Rivers a possibility? I feel like he would be perfect.

Will the offseason plans include finding a backbone donor for Brook Lopez?

I've never been so offended by someone's lack of fortitude.

Brook lost me last night. I would support him even when he would play soft, thinking that hell when the time comes, he will rise to the occasion.

Silly me.

This will be the end result every season until the garbage that is polluting the Nets' cap is cleared. Then it's back to high 1st rd draft picks.

Evans, Wallace and Bogans are still useful in this team. Evans just needs to be the 8th or 9th man off the bench. Wallace though he made some blatant mistakes showed that he isn't fully washed up in this series.

We need a pure shooter and a big man next to Brook.

I still like Blatche off the bench.

My Offseason needs for this team:

1) On Court Leadership. I dont care what tangible asset we get for humphries. wether its a defender or shooter or even a good player. first and foremost it needs to be a veteran who brings it every single night, busts his butt on the floor and is a VOCAL leader. someone who will tell lopez to stop being a scared vagina or to tell joe johnson to get his head out of his rear or get in the coaches face and tell him to get a struggling loser off the fng floor. then go out and play with the passion any of the 9 or 10 bulls did last night.

2) Coaching motivation, I dont care if its a defensive minded coach or offesnive minded. he needs to be a motivator first and foremost and someone who commands respect. also a no nonsense guy who has the balls to do something like bench one of his stars for an entire half if they are playing like dog crap.

3) Defense in the front court. we suck at defending the pick and roll. it killed us all year. we are terrible at it. we overcame it alot, sure but we stink at it. we need someone who protects the paint in more of a not letting guys get to their spots fashion as opposed to a blocked shots fashion. hopefully HBAP gets us that kind of guy.

4) wing shooter. we need a wing shooter REALLY badly. not an ok 35% guy, but like an assassin 45% guy

Ideally....

1) There are none of these guys in FA, unfortunetly. unless somehow pierce got bought out and came here for the minimum, which would never happen. tradeing HBAP for ZBO could get it done, but i know everyone hates him as a fit. id do it anyway. guys is a fierce competitor. we need some fire on this team.

2) Jeff Van Gundy

3) again, it would depend on who would take the minimum. not alot of options here

4) morrow. seems like a safe bet to happen as well.

I wanted JVG but watching this team in the series. We can't have an X's and O's type of coach. We need a coach that will bring intensity that will yell and force them to play basketball every second on-court. This team takes way too many breaks and they have to have an understanding on wanting to win.

SVG might the person that we need.

If we can snag Doc then get him.

Were overdue for some luck in the draft.....That is where we need to focus right now.

Lopez.....like it or not he is our future. This was this guys first playoff series, he averaged 22 pts 7 boards and 3 blocks I can't say we should have expected more. I know the numbers don't tell the whole tale. After Noahs performance some people think the grass is greener on the other side. Tell you what, pair Brook up with Boozer and lets see what happens.

Lopez is our most attractive trade chip. we certainly arent locked into him. there is an outside chance we could get a love or LMA for him. although likely those teams say no.

as for noah, he would have dominated lopez regardless of who was next to him. he simply wanted it more. the numbers dont tell the story at all. lopez had 21 and 9 last night. see that in a box score and it looks good, but he was our worst player on the floor other then maybe JJ and got as dominated as you can by noah. he played his worst game of the season imo.

I don't think its possible to get something in return for Lopez that really makes the team better. The thing about Brook is when he puts his mind into it he can dominate . We need someone be it a headcoach or a personal coach to get through to Brook . He was probably the best skillset of all the bigmen in the league when he's on his game ( well he's allways going to be pretty slow ) . Someone like say Shaq needs to work with him and get into Brooks head that he needs to play way more aggresive and physical. He rushes to many shots or shoots them superweak for no damn reason. He's the biggest strongest guy on the court 90% of the time play like it ffs . I think trying to get Lopez in the right mindset should be the teams priority . If you can manage that you probably have the best bigman in the game on your team. There's still time for that he just needs someone he really respects to teach him that.

I'll be one of Brooks avid and biggest supporters... but being bitched around and not showing the will to win... that's just kills me....

i can't defend him at all..... moments like a gm 6, like a gm 7 is where we need HIM to beast it.. not be setup or told to, just got to have that instinct... and he didn't.... I hope he reads this and gets a bitchslap of reality....

he has fans and an organization depending on him to succeed and it doesn't drive him... continue hitting the gym and grow some balls....
